I have seen that being a criminal justice major is awesome, because the jobs that are associated with a criminal justice major are really interesting to me. Being a criminal justice major has been something that I have wanted to do since I was watching crime TV shows when I was a little kid. These shows had most of my interest and the character that I would love to be is obviously the lead detective. I have always wanted to be the one who caught the break in the case that eventually led to the apprehension of the person that committed the crime. That is why I watched shows like Monk, Criminal Minds, Psych, etc. Basically if the show had crime in it and there were people trying to catch the criminal I was most likely glued to the TV. There have also been a lot of issues surrounding the criminal justice field that I find interesting. Some of these issues have touched on whether or not law enforcement should monitor cities’ more closely, due to the recent attacks on U.S. soil. The major that I have decided to go with seems to really fit me and I am anxious to start learning more about this field, and I am glad that I am not going to have to be on the front lines. I want to be a forensic accountant because I know it will always interest me throughout life. I am glad that I will not be surrounded by the tension that comes with respecting citizen rights and cops overstepping their boundaries between laws and respecting citizens’ rights.
Recently I have had second thoughts about majoring in criminal justice, because of the fact that you pay your dues for many many years, and that just did not appeal to me and I decided to change my major. Forensic accountants deal with more of the business side of criminal justice. Most of these accou...

...stepping their boundaries between law and being a citizen. There has been some controversy over this system because it has been accused that it has been targeting certain kinds of groups. There has been lawsuits bringing up this very issue and most of them never were proven.
In conclusion, I am very excited to learn more about the forensic accounting major. I do know that this major is going to be a lot of work, but I feel that I am capable of pursuing this career. The amount of jobs that will be open in this field when I graduate from college are enormous. In my paper I talked about license plate scanners on police cars and what I wanted to do with my life. I do feel that there should be rules and laws written so that it will protect citizen’s rights that they all deserve, and thankfully the career I have chosen will not force me to make those drastic decisions.

Gaining an in-depth knowledge of the criminal justice system, throughout my Bachelors program has been exciting as much as an eye opener. Some of the subjects were ones that I did not expect. There were also, ones that had no idea how ignorant I was on the subject.
Within the Criminal Justice System there is diverse career opportunities to choose from. The career I am interested in being is a Criminal Profiler with the FBI National Center for Analysis of Violent Crime. I am interested in this job because it seems to be an intense job to do. A criminal profiler's job is to create a psychological profile of a criminal suspect. Creating one of these profiles can be used to help catch the suspect. This is done by examining evidence from the crime, interviewing witnesses and victims, and analyzing crime scenes. Information obtained from these investigations can then be used to help the profiler determine a pattern of criminal behavior. Most of the time the information that was collected can be used to find out more about the suspect.
In just a year of attending these schools I have been able to recognize the evil that lies within the darkness of many business activities and I would like to branch out and try to be the one good guy that will try to help others instead of throwing people under the bus for my own selfish benefit. Listening to cases where white collar workers deceiving people and steal from not only people but from their very own firm is what has inspired me to pursue a career a degree in Forensic Accounting. Being a man who has came from nothing and has worked hard for everything I have today, it is infuriating hearing about the millions of dollars that “mysteriously” go missing. With a refined education from a prestigious school such as St. Edwards, I will most certainly be able to find the real crooks of America who for a long time now have easily gotten

Law enforcement is a career that is both violent and rewarding in many capacities. There are many different aspects of criminal justice policy. One in particular is the different theories of crime and how they affect the criminal justice system. The Classical School of criminology is a theory about evolving from a capital punishment type of view to more humane ways of punishing people. Positivist criminology is maintaining the control of human behavior and criminal behavior. They did this through three different categories of Biological studies, which are five methodologies of crime that were mainly focused on biological theories, Psychological theories, which contains four separate theories, and the Sociological theories, which also includes four different methods of explaining why crime exists. The last theory is about Critical criminology. Their goal was to transform society in a way that would liberate and empower subordinate groups of individuals.
I believe that criminal justice employees should have a thorough education so they can be critical thinkers to be the best at their jobs. Furthermore, proper training will help one to learn the correct way to go about certain things. I emphasize the importance of hard work, honesty, and positivity as the qualities in my every day work habits. I believe these qualities to help make a good worker in this field because it is hard to always stick to qualities that will help you and not hurt you. In this field you always have to look at the good and not the bad.

This was a great opportunity for students who are still undecided or undeclared officially with there major. Before I attended Utica College I had my mind set on majoring in psychology until I started to venture out and research other majors that caught my eye. I changed my major right before coming to UC so that my classes wold correspond with Criminal Justice so that I can learn more about it. Even though it is only the first semester I am loving everything that I have learned about what it means to be a Criminal Justice major.
