After high school, many kids struggle with what they want to be in the future. Rather it be to go to college or maybe even work in the real word right away, it still is an important decision that can affect someone's life entirely. If the person decides to go to college what will they major in, what study habits will they use. Architectural design sticks out as one of the wonderful majors there is to take in college. A degree like this is hard to come by especially when college dropout rates are high and the classes are difficult. Also, the certification test, an internship, and the different people architects work with makes the job harder after school. Sure the money is good but the job is no joke. Architects help our society function and enjoy the things everyone loves to do. The buildings that people spend time in were all designed …show more content…
This exam is required to be passed in order to get an Architect license. In order to be able to take the ARE, architects must earn at least a 5-year Bachelor of Architecture, complete an internship, and have the requirements for each state (Architectural Design: Education and Job Training Requirements for Becoming an Architectural Design Professional). According to Shailynn Krow, “In addition to education, architects must have three additional years of experience before they can take their licensing exam (Krow, Shailynn. “ Duties and Responsibilities of Architects).”Like most test, the ARE is composed of divisions. The National Council of Architectural Registration Boards says “The ARE® 5.0 features 6 divisions organized around the progression of a typical architecture project ( ARE 5.0 ”. NCARB. National Council of Architectural Registration Boards).“ These divisions are Practice management, project management, programming and analysis, project planning and designing, project development and documentation, and construction and evaluation
Architecture is a very interesting subject. The designs shape the way we interact with different aspects of everyday life. There have been many great architects through out the years such as Andrea Polladio, Louis Sullivan, and Frank Lloyd Wright. One architect how ever is particularly significant. Not only because of his designs, but because he was also a president; Thomas Jefferson. Thomas Jefferson was a very successful architect and was able to design a numerous amount of structures in his life time. Some of his most famous buildings were The University of Virginia in Charlottesville, the Farmington Country Club and Monticello. Monticello is specifically interesting in the fact that Monticello was Thomas Jeffersons home. In terms of the
According to Lee W. Waldrep (2010), author of the book Becoming an Architect: A Guide to Careers in Design, an architect is an imaginative person who designs a wide spectrum of structures for buildings (Waldrep, 2010, p 2). These structures must meet safety requirements in addition to being aesthetically pleasing. Architects must compete with other architects to attract clients by presenting designs. This process generally rests on building a good reputation as an architect. Because of the nature and the large amounts of time spent on designing, architects must work long hours when their skill is required during different stages of construction.
The first thing is the history of architecture. Scientist has proven that the first sign of architecture showings were started 30,000 years ago. This job really began back in 8000 B.C., when Egyptians started building tents and houses. After the tents and houses, came the buildings and pyramids, which were built between 3000-2500 B.C. Now architecture has evolved into one of the best and highest paid jobs in the United States today. Just about everything around you today started out as a plan in someone’s architecture firm. Some of the most famous buildings were designed, planned, and built by architects. For instance the Eifel tower, the Statue of Liberty, and the twin towers were all done by architects. Being an architect isn’t really anything to be famous. There aren’t really any famous architects, but all of them get lots of money. Hard work, dedication, and a positive mind can make anyone a successful architect in today’s world.
Tectonics is a term that refers to the structural part poetic material, formal belonging to the building or construction in general. Tectonics cannot be separated from the technological and this is what gives ambivalence to the term. You can identify three conditions: the technology object (instrumental need) the scenic object (may refer to a non-visible object) and the tectonic object appears in two modes (ontological and representational). The first includes the construction element (static and enhances its cultural role), the second includes the representation of a construction element that is present but hidden.
Architects have been around for thousands of years, and continue to thrive today. People will always need buildings to live, work, shop and play in, causing architecture to become one of the fastest grossing careers in the United States. Being an architect is hard work. An architect needs a good education and a license to be taken seriously. Those things alone will take years to accomplish.
The success of architects is defined not so much by the problems they face as the act of their creative and practical responses.
Architecture is the concept of bringing structure, materiality, form and space together as a whole, provide people with enclosed atmosphere to experience. Considering this, it is important to identify that materiality and the purpose of details has been a key methodology to bringing architectural intentions into the design in an affective manner, more over producing an architectural expression. However, this position is rather declining in architecture, reducing tectonics and materiality to being secondary to form and space. With the start of modernism, the attempt to achieve minimalistic style has caused detailing to increasingly develop into a decorative aspect of a building, neglecting its individual contribution to architecture.
Here I sit five years later, at the age of seventeen dreaming of becoming an architect. If it wasn’t for that specific day I don’t know if I would ever have realized one of the reasons I hoped to become an architect. I want to be an architect for many reasons, but I am very driven to in order to break that gender stereotype of boys being architects. I wish that when I was sitting in that chair next to seven boys, listening to a male architect tell me about his job that I would have remembered that society does not tell me what I can and can’t do. If you have a passion for something and you put your mind to it, you can achieve it. I will always remember this lesson throughout my future. I don’t want my children to have to be scared to be who they are because of what society believes is
With the interaction between the development of computational approaches in architecture and the contemporary forms of spatial design intelligence, some new architectural design theories emerged to make differences between architects and control designing processes. These theories are almost employed in all designing realms, from architecture to urban design to provide fields of ideas and solutions that privilege by complexity. Most of these theories are oriented to relay on understanding and using computational methods to generate exotic and complex geometries. In this respect, three of these theories will discussed and tested against three buildings. The theories are: parametric design, genetic architecture and emergence, which characterize some of the contemporary architectural design approaches.
Buildings reflect the values and ideas of society within periods. The role of architecture in shaping society and vice versa largely depends on the period in question and who or what affects first. The Enlightenment, and the subsequent period the Post-Enlightenment, reflect the biggest change for current ideas regarding architecture and society and current theories. At the same time, individual identities and understanding of society, progress and truth all follow a similar evolving path. It is during this dramatic shift in thinking that the role of architecture to society and the idea of progress and truth becomes a more complex relationship. How this relationship works and its implications is based on the theory that there is a direct link between the two. One cannot develop without the other. Who leads whom and to what extent they influence each other is evident in architectural trends and pioneering works by architects such as Robert Venturi, Frank Gehry amongst others.
Architectural engineering is a challenging yet rewarding career. Architectural engineers design buildings that not only look appealing, but also suit the needs of people and ensure the safety of those people that occupy them. The four to five years spent getting an architectural engineering degree is well worth it because it opens up opportunities. The opportunities are endless in the field of architectural engineering.
Interior design is one of the most important professions. When thinking of design and architecture industry, it is necessary to keep in mind that the professionals emphasis on matters of everyday life when commencing a project. Important sectors of interior design consist of: residential, commercial, hospitality, healthcare, education and corporate designs. Thus, the field deals with numerous factors and affects almost everyone in some way. Design is goal-oriented– it strives to achieve a certain purpose. An essential goal of interior design is to create functional spaces that convey a specific mood for an audience using design elements, thus outlining a design for communities versus individuals.
Over the last four years of studying architecture, I have seen the power that it has to shape communities, shape lives, and to create new ways that people interact with each other. The way architecture can help enhance living and allow for creation of new interactions of people is one of the reasons I find the subject so interesting. The way architecture can shape a whole culture and the way that the culture then in turn shapes the architecture is fascinating to me. Architecture is also not a static subject, it is constantly evolving and adapting with time to take on new forms, create new spaces, and to provide commentary on the history of our time on Earth. The depth that architecture has, and the evolution of the subject is something I have fallen in love with through my study of it. However, when I first started out studying architecture, I had no idea of the depth that the subject had, and it was an incredibly daunting realization; however, it was as equally exciting. I have always had a love for learning and architecture has just fueled that fire. Even after completing my bachelors degree, the learning has not stopped. I get to learn something new about architecture daily, and getting to say that is an opportunity I am thankful to have. It is not just about the learning however, its
The regulatory and legislative frameworks extend the challenge for the architect and for the profession.
