Family is defined as “a group of people who are related to each other, a person 's children, or a group of related people including people who lived in the past” by the website of the Merriam-Webster, a respected dictionary first assembled in the year eighteen twenty eight. Previously in America’s history, most prevalent in what is roughly the nineteen fifties, the word family was referring to the nuclear family. That is, a mom, a dad, and two (or two point five, statistically) children that were given birth by the aforementioned mother and conceived with the aforementioned father, hopefully at least one boy and one girl. From the information I have taken to heart in my relatively short life span, that was considered to be the perfect familial …show more content…
It is emotional connection. It’s your best friend, it 's your love, your pain, your joy, your sorrow, all of you, laid out on a table. You 're not the only one laid out on this nonexistent metaphorical intimate table, everyone you consider close to you would be as well. It would be mostly invisible to others, but you can see one another just fine. Your family is everyone you genuinely love and who genuinely loves you. My father has always said that you should love your family unconditionally, and that you couldn 't choose your family, just your friends. I found out years later that you can make your own family out of your friends. You can be a parental figure in someone else’s life, and they can be one in yours. You can decide that you would follow this someone to the grave, but know they would never want you to. Unconditional love does not have to be reserved just for people who are related to you by …show more content…
I have quite a limited amount of trust for my immediate blood related family and often feel unsafe sharing any information with them at all. This is something me and some of my friends have in common, making it even easier for me to get close with them. I didn 't consider them family until they considered me family. To be completely honest, it was not an independent discovery at all that a family could extend beyond what it was. It was harder without knowing that, and I am incredibly grateful for the friends I have as family. I am their family and they are
What is a Family? By law a Family is defined as a group of blood-relatives; all the relations who descend from a common ancestor, or who spring from a common root (Civil 9 Verse. 323). In Biology we learn that to make a child it takes one man and one women. In life, we learn that although a child is created by two specific people, the child is not always raised by their producers. Ron Tranmer wrote the poem, “The Blended Family Recipe”, which illustrates that a blended family is like beef stew (Tranmer, print). The definition of a “blended Family” is when a man with his children from previous relations joins a women with her children from a previous marriage to become a family (blessings). Ron Tranmer has written hundreds of poems over the

Family, and its definition, is universal, it describes a union, particularly with parents and children. One could define Family as a group of people who are related to each other, a person’s children, and a group of related people who lived in the past. In reality, Family has a profound meaning, unique to every household and family. On a personal note, family is defined as a foundation of love, support, and strength.
In general knowledge, a family is a group consisting of blood relatives, living together as a unit. However, family has a much deeper meaning to me. Growing up in such a small Haitian community, I was always very close to all of my relatives, whether it was my siblings, cousins or aunts and uncles. I couldn’t imagine a world without them: they are the people who made me who I am today.
“The term family generally refers to a group of people related to one another by birth, marriage or adoption. In contemporary society, people often apply the word family to any group that feels a sense of kinship,” (World Book). World Book divides families into different types. The first type, the nuclear family, is most common and consists of a father, a mother, and their children. In the second type, a single-parent family, there is a single parent. That parent, (the mother or the father) heads the family alone.
“You can choose your friends but you sho’ can’t choose your family, an’ they’re still kin to you no matter whether you acknowledge ‘em or not, and it makes you look right silly when you don’t.” -Harper Lee, To Kill a Mockingbird. Family is a group of people related by blood. How appropriate since blood is a thick sticky substance like glue and glue holds things together. However, family can be a source of great difficulty. “Family quarrels are bitter things. They don’t go according to any rules. They’re not like aches or wounds, they’re more like splits in the skin that won’t heal because there’s not enough material.” -F. Scott Fitzgerald. Our first example of family on this earth are Adam and Eve with their two sons Cain and Abel. In Genesis 4, we see where Cain slew Abel. No wonder those of us who come from dysfunctional families do not have warm, fuzzy feelings toward some of our relatives. Of course, we know that this has not been God’s intentions. Paul tells us, “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. ‘Honor your father and mother,’ which is the first commandment with promise: ‘that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.’ And
A family might include anyone related by blood or by adoption such as: step parents, grandparents acting as parents, and even brothers and sisters sharing the same household. However, worldwide “the family is regarded as the most ba...
- A nuclear family was the predominant family system in the United States with the absence of extended kin. The notion that the husband was the father, wife was the mother, and their child. This is also known as the extended kin. This type of family system has proved to be the foundation and understanding of children well-being and social health. This type of family was not only beneficial for their child, and the community in which they lived in.
Family, a group consisting of parents and children living together in a household. Although family is a concretely defined term, the idea of family varies from person to person. But, what makes a family? For those who are surrounded by loving blood relatives, for those who have never known the one to grant them life, for those who have left their blood behind for a more loving and nurturing environment, what can commonly define a family? Family is something defined by the individual. Family includes those who you have come to love, whether platonically or romantically, those you have suffered with, those you have come to respect, and most importantly those you have cared for and in turn have cared for you. To one that could mean people who
The idea of an ideal American family seems ridiculous today. Two hundred years ago many Americans may not have thought twice about the idea that there was a correct form that a family should follow. In the 19th century our country was young and was one of a few to have to come up with its own national identity in such a short period of time. In hindsight and with a bit of anachronism one could say that America dealt with its immigrant population with a great deal of hypocrisy. Instead of being a haven for immigrants America was almost a factory, attempting to take in different people and create a melting pot in which everything becomes alike. Every ingredient eventually loses its uniqueness.
This quote is from an unknown person that said this quote, “Family isn’t always blood related. It’s the people in your life who want you in theirs; the ones who accept you for who you are. The ones who would do anything to see you smile and who love you no matter what”. This quote states that family is not always the ones you are related to by blood line. Family is the ones who care and will love unconditionally. Sometimes children do not want to talk to parents about a situation, taking to sibling or a friend could be a better choice for the child. Friends give just as much support as family would if not better advise. Friends could have been in the same situation at a different time or are in the exact situation now. Friends are the ones who will give the honest truth, even though it may not be what needs to be heard. Family means true friends that will be with them during the hardest times. One quote that is said to many people when dealing with a tuff time is “friends are chosen family”. Many people have their parents tell them that they can pick their friends, but they can’t pick their family. Everyone has those very close family friends that have been around since the child could remember. Friends come and go, but true friends will stay
...relative by blood or marriage. It means the people who accept you no matter who you are without no animosity and judgment. The love of a family should be unconditional, and everyone should try their best to provide all they can for the people in their family, emotionally and financially. Family are the people that everyone deserves to feel secure, and comfortable with, even if they aren't lucky enough to have that. Everything people learn comes from the way their family brought them up, and therefore, everything you are is because of your family. Family are the people that everyone deserves to feel secure, and comfortable with, even if they aren't lucky enough to have that. It does not matter if they are your blood relatives; if they have been there for you all their life, and will be there for you unconditionally for the rest of your life, then they are your family
I define family as all the people who have made positive impacts in my life, and the people I count on. My family and I do so many fun things together which really helps us connect. We save up our money every year so we can go on vacations together, and I am very thankful of that. I trust my family a lot more than most people do. I tell my mom and dad everything because I know I can rely on them no matter what. My grandparents and I also have an absolutely wonderful relationship. We spend tons of time together and I am forever grateful that I am able to have such a strong connection with them. I know that as long as I have my family, that together we can get through
To me, family is a group of people that are brought together by blood, adoption, or marriage. I also believe that people do not have to be blood-related to be considered a family. If two or more people have a connection with one another where they can rely and depend on each other and have an emotional attachment, I also believe that to be considered family. Golics, Azam, Finlay, & Salek (2010), define family as a diverse group of people that care for each other on a day-to-day basis (p. 400). My mother and father are still married after 27 years. I am a child of three with two older brothers, both are currently married with children. My older brother Robert and his wife, Lauren have to two girls named Abigail and Avery. My other other brother...
There may be times where no one is there for you, your friends betray you in some way, and the only one that will be waiting with open arms are you family. It is very important to always cherish and appreciate the love, comfort, help, and attention that your family offers you because if you don’t, you may just end up regretting it in the end. A family does not necessarily have to be considered blood. If you have close friends that you see as a brother or sister because of their loyalty to you and the way they treat you, they are considered family. A family will always bring peace, love, and happiness, and though there may be times that you bump heads with your family members, you always run back to each other and speak as if everything is perfectly
