In college, everyone tells you to pick a major that will lead to a career that you can love. They say find something that challenges you, fulfills you, and is something that you can enjoy for the rest of your life. While that sentence is daunting enough, the actual task of discovering such a major or career is even more difficult. Most individuals discover that a lot of factors and variables go into making this decision. I know when I was trying to decide on my own major I had just this experience. The first major that I explored was engineering and that last about two months. I then switched to business, then aviation, and then back to business. Luckily for me, I was able to experience and explore a lot of different majors without getting …show more content…
The top five skills brand marketing employees need to have are reading comprehension, active listening, speaking, critical thinking, and active learning (Marketing). While these skills are important for almost every field of study, they are especially important on a daily basis for people who work in the marketing world. Reading comprehension is very important because understanding documents that are circulated around the office is instrumental for the daily workings of all businesses. In order to effectively promote a client’s product or service, it is also important for employees to understand the content that other businesses and clients bring in. Active listening is important because an employee needs to be able to direct their whole attention to different types of speakers in order to retain information, ask intelligent questions, and understand what is being addressed. Speaking is another necessary skill for marketing majors. Strong speaking skills are important because part of marketing is communicating a message. Whether that message is for a supervisor, a colleague, a client, or the public, being able to convey information to others efficiently and effectively is a major part of the job. In any career, there will be times when a problem or a challenge arises in the workplace. During times like these, it is important for …show more content…

“So often the best things in life that happen to you, the things that make all the difference happen by change or result from failure, not the result of careful planning” (Saxon ,438). I have spent many sleepless nights trying to think through an issue or plan to succeed only to find in the end I failed. I liken this to the old saying “hindsight is 20/20”. As humans, I find that it is always easier to find things that we do not want to do, but we still have a difficult time finding what it is we really enjoy. It seems we are all searching for a career that we love, and one that will support our lifestyle.
Making a decision for the future can be hard, but it can be even harder when people are torn between their passions and meeting other’s expectations. In today’s generation, most students are expected to have their career chosen by the time they are out of High School. They are trained to plan and map out their entire lives. Yet, college students still end up having an undecided major by the time they start their freshman year in college. A huge issue that is present in today’s society is that college students chose their major for the wrong reasons. Parents pressure students to pursue careers in business, medicine, politics, and law; however, unless practiced with passion, those careers are pointless.

You have to continuously do things until you really get a sense of what you want to do with your life.
Some people already know by the age of seven that they want to become a pilot or nurse; others, however, have more difficulties deciding what to do with their future. People who decided to go to a university or college have to make an important choice: what major are they going into? For many people this is a very difficult question. As the statistics show, one out of five students change their major between admission and the first day of classes. Nearly three out of four students change majors at least twice before they graduate. And three out of four college students express uncertainly about their major. These striking results raised some questions for me. Is it really necessary to choose a major? What influence has the choice of a specific major on the student and his or her education? What are the opportunities for the future? And how can these students be helped? Since I am still having trouble choosing a major myself, I decided to do some research on this topic and I hope it will help you a little bit to make the right choice.
The Research and Development Department of a Business The work of research and development involves developing new products and improving current ones through various forms of research. New products and improvements to current products are needed to meet the requirements of customers, taking into consideration changes in consumer demand, seasonal sales changes, and the availability of new materials and technology. The marketing department collects information about changes in consumer demand and the requirements of customers. The research and development department must also be aware of new materials, technology and products that affect the customer's requirements and possibly the future of their customers needs. For example development within the music industry has moved it forwards with the development from audiocassettes audio CD-ROMs.
One of the most important decisions an undergraduate will make will be deciding what they will major in. This academic and life choice will ultimately decide how an individual will view their college experience and help guide them with their future career choices. Choosing the wrong major can be too stressful and overwhelming for a student with more course work than expected. On the other side of the spectrum, the wrong choice in a major will not challenge the individual to bring out their full potential. “Ideally, a major will leave a student academically successful, as well as fulfill academic, personal, and vocational goals “(“The Pennsylvania State University Division of Undergraduate Studies,” n.d.). For most college students choosing a major is a difficult decision, especially when they are not mentally and rationally matured. When choosing a major it is implied that most people are logical and rational, and that they weigh the pros and

The first skill for managers to understand and practice is communications, because it is the foundation for all actions in the workplace and it allows the supervisor or manager an opportunity to build relationships with the overall workgroup without alienating anyone in the work environment (Roper, 2005). As a manager it is very important to be able to communicate effectively. As Robert Kent, former dean of Harvard Business School has said, “In business, communication is everything” (Blalock, 2005). The Wisconsin Business School Alumni Association recently reported that managers spend 75 percent to 80 percent of their time communicating (Blalock, 2005). Communication skills are critical for success in an organization. Successful managers communicate to where their targeted audience understands (Froschheiser, 2010). College is a place where students explore their individuality and particularly, what career they would like to pursue. Most students have an idea of their major or field they would like to go into. In my case, I want to go into the art field, but at the moment, I am unsure of what major to take. Architectural Studies has been in my options due to the incorporation of art and buildings in which I find myself in awe at the creativity put into the building structures. For instance, I love the imperial palaces in Asia, such as the Forbidden City in China, as the curvature of the rooftops, the intricate designs, and the pillars contribute to the overall beauty and aesthetically pleasing structures. Although there are many other majors in the art
