In college, everyone tells you to pick a major that will lead to a career that you can love. They say find something that challenges you, fulfills you, and is something that you can enjoy for the rest of your life. While that sentence is daunting enough, the actual task of discovering such a major or career is even more difficult. Most individuals discover that a lot of factors and variables go into making this decision. I know when I was trying to decide on my own major I had just this experience. The first major that I explored was engineering and that last about two months. I then switched to business, then aviation, and then back to business. The top five skills brand marketing employees need to have are reading comprehension, active listening, speaking, critical thinking, and active learning (Marketing). While these skills are important for almost every field of study, they are especially important on a daily basis for people who work in the marketing world. Reading comprehension is very important because understanding documents that are circulated around the office is instrumental for the daily workings of all businesses. In order to effectively promote a client’s product or service, it is also important for employees to understand the content that other businesses and clients bring in. Active listening is important because an employee needs to be able to direct their whole attention to different types of speakers in order to retain information, ask intelligent questions, and understand what is being addressed. Speaking is another necessary skill for marketing majors. Strong speaking skills are important because part of marketing is communicating a message. Whether that message is for a supervisor, a colleague, a client, or the public, being able to convey information to others efficiently and effectively is a major part of the job.
