"Destination casino" is a term used to refer to the integrated resort casinos that characterize the luxurious integrated resort casinos of Las Vegas. Increased tourism, conventions and trade shows are associated with these enterprises ("What is"). Las Vegas hosts 22,000 meetings and conventions and has been a leading trade show destination of 16 consecutive years ("What is"). This industry is responsible for 46,000 local jobs and is estimated to provide the local economy with $4.5 billion each year ("What is"). The same positive economic impact that is enjoyed by Las Vegas could be reaped by the State of Florida if the legislature passes the laws required to establish destination resort casinos in South Florida.
A recent poll, which was funded by the Las Vegas Sands casino conglomerate, indicated that the majority of Florida residents polled favored the establishment of destination casino resorts in South Florida (Deslatte). According to Dave Sackett of the Tarrance Group, which is the organization that conducted the poll, 63 per cent of likely Florida voters supported the initiative (Beaton). This poll also determined that 67 per cent of those polled indicated that they would be more likely to favor destination construction if they were certain that this initiative would "'create tens of thousands of new, good-paying jobs and bolster economic development through tourism'" (Deslatte). While support for destination casinos was stronger in South Florida, 54 per cent of voters in Northwest Florida favored it as well (Beaton).
Opponents to destination casinos argue that the Las Vegas Sands-backed poll is bogus and that the survey that was previously conducted, which showed Florida voters to be narrowly divided on the issue (Deslatt...

... these enterprises will increase revenue streams for both the state and local economies. It is, therefore, difficult to perceive how this development could be viewed as anything less than a beneficial development for all concerned. The Walt Disney Corporation fears that expansion of Florida's gambling industry will negatively impact Disney's family-friendly orientation; however, it is arguable that the Broadway caliber shows and the other attractive amenities that are typically part of destination resort casinos will prove to be features that attract, rather than alienate, families. It is anticipated that in the upcoming 2014 session of the Florida Legislature, gambling interests will once again pursue this goal (Rohrer). By voting yes in regards to this legislation, the Florida legislature can bring the benefits of destination resort casinos to the state's economy.
The first article, “The Best Night $500,000 Can Buy,” portrays the perfect night out in Las Vegas. Devin chronologically takes the reader through a night in one of the famous clubs in Las Vegas, Marquee. He describes the fundamental marketing techniques that promoters use to lure women into the venue, the prices that high-rollers pay to get a VIP access and tables, and the “shitshow” atmosphere where people are dancing as if they are on Ecstasy (some people are actually on drugs). From personal experience, Las Vegas is definitely the Disney World for adults because people can openly consume alcoholic beverages on Fremont Street while enjoying their time at the arcades, night and day clubs, pools, gambling rooms, theme park rides, shopping centers, restaurants, strip clubs, and wedding chapels. Which ultimately le...
The second threat is many states are legalizing or planning to legalize commercial casino gambling. Unlike Native American casinos commercial casinos turn over a large share of their profit to the cities and states in taxes.
Governor Jeb Bush's One Florida Initiative has come into action and there have been many opposing opinions towards this plan since The Board of Regents approved it. Some might say the plan has split Florida in two. Many Florida citizens who support One Florida argue towards opposing positions to give the plan a chance. These supporters believe this state needs a change because of the numerous problems within our school system. Opposing sides argue that they might consider part of, which is the plan that grants schools money towards scholarships and mentoring but their position is that affirmative action is not a problem. Supporter of One Florida Initiative believe that the plan could not have come about any later than it did because we needed some action done fast. While opposers believe that this plan was voted on too fast and the governor didn't give citizens enough information or time to do anything about it.
For years casino gambling was portrayed in the media and Hollywood as being associated with criminal activities and the mafia. Now with proper scrutiny and government regulations casino gambling has become a lucrative business, with casinos stock even trading on Wall Street. Casino gambling is an ever increasingly popular and legal activity in many states throughout the United States. “The term gambling or ‘gaming’ as the industry calls it, means any legalized form of wagering or betting conducted in a casino, on a riverboat, on an Indian reservation, or at any other location under the jurisdiction of the United States” (National Gambling Impact Study Commission Act). States that allow casino gambling benefit vastly by re-incorporating the taxation off of commerce gained from casinos and tourism associated with the casinos back into the state and local communities. Jobs created by casinos also have a positive impact on the economy in local communities surrounding casinos as well as, the states that legalize gambling. Texas, while allowing horse and dog racing, lottery, and charitable bingo, does not currently prohibit casino gambling. In this essay, I will provide the different reasons the State of Texas will benefit from legalizing casinos gambling. By not having casinos, Texas continues to lose valuable tax revenue that could be awarded to state and local government funded programs for example, education, public safety, economic development, and infrastructure improvements. With the increasing number of legal casinos in bordering states such as Louisiana, New Mexico, and Oklahoma, the loss of tourism and tax revenue is a growing concern for Texas. Passing legislation to allow casinos in the State of Texas will help fund ...
Gambling can have adverse effects on the social welfare of many individuals and families. Gambling can increase the number of individuals and families dealing with gambling addiction and exploit individuals and families who are economically disadvantaged. Under such circumstances, not all forms of gambling should be legalized. This is clear evidence that gambling revenue allocated for Texas schools is not worth the negative effects associated with gambling. Education is a valuable source of growth for all citizens in a community, no one in society can truly grow if one part of society is left

Viva Las Vegas: Most Unique City in America (Lights, Camera, & Casino Action!) Las Vegas is one of the interesting cities that I have ever visited in the entire world because it is a microcosm of the whole United States. Not only are there people visiting from all 50 states but people from all over the world as well, therefore, you will meet the most unique characters that you have ever met in your life. I arrived in Las Vegas October, 2009, a long time ago, but I’m sure the energy of the city has not changed. Most people find themselves entering Vegas through the McCarran International Airport that has digital slot machines posted everywhere from the moment you depart the plane.

The Great Transformation From A Casino City To a Resort Destination Atlantic City is the place to gamble on the East Coast. Although this may initially seem to be a positive characteristic, it is evident that this destination has the capability to be so much more than it already is. This point of interest has the world’s first boardwalk, which opened in 1881, has 4 miles of hotels, amusements, and casinos. Atlantic City was originally a resort town, until 1978, when it changed into a gaming city. This popular day-trip destination had over 34 million visitors in 1998 alone. Despite this amazing statistic, along with the revenue that gambling brings in, many steps are being taken in order to further promote the expansion of this great city. The renovations and improvements being made to the Atlantic City Convention Center are already increasing the amount of money coming in. There is a great deal of other things to focus on in the Atlantic City region. In endorsing local attractions in this scenic area, and in shifting the target market of this spot, this city would change back into a resort destination. When most people think of Atlantic City, the first thing that comes to mind is the casino attractions that are available. With the city’s constant shuffle and excitement, gamblers from all over go there dreaming of a big win. Many people consider Atlantic City to be the “Las Vegas of the East Coast”. There are over 12 casinos, with one building as magnificent as the next. At any given second of the day, these hopefuls may have their lives changed in an instant with just one win. These casino hotels gain most of their income from gamblers. Casinos employ almost 49,000 people every year. This number should actually jump when the Marina District opens. Although Atlantic City prospers as a gambler’s paradise, many would love to show others just how much more Atlantic City really has to offer its tourists. The Atlantic City Convention Center, built in 1929, was renovated with $72 million in 1997. With the world’s largest pipe organ, everyone from the Beatles to Pavarotti has played there. It was designated a historic landmark in 1987. Conventions, trade shows, meetings, and public events of the greater Atlantic City area all take place here. When the renovation is finally completed, it will seat up to 12,000 people for special events.
...erican intervention in making Puerto Rico a tourist destination has created social problems while simultaneously covering them up. Tourism has made Puerto Rico an island paradise, but no one talks about the high unemployment rates, crime, and Americanization of Puerto Rican culture. Many do not see this a problematic because tourism is highly profitable, but many of the locals do not see those profits. There is not much being done in combating the issues that have risen with the implementation of tourism as the main industry of Puerto Rico. Many people do not think of these things when thinking about the island because it is marketed as a place to forget troubles, not a place to take on the troubles of Puerto Rico. There has to be more awareness, and priority placed on finding solutions to these issues if Puerto Rico wants to maintain a successful tourist industry.
Certainly, Ocean Downs casino's gaming taxes will help to improve the economic status of the county. Although the casino has only been open for a couple of months, thousands of people visited the new gambling place. So by the words of Shawn J. Soper, a news editor in The Dispatch newspaper, casino's revenue reached nearly 6.17 million dollars that is divided between different funds. So in this way, around 3 million dollars goes to the state's Education Trust Fund, and 5.5 percent of gross revenue is divided between l...
There are several positive effects that gambling has along with its positive impact for economic development. In some areas of the U.S. gambling has been embraced and promoted as a legitimate strategy of economic development. It helps the unemployed and underemployed by providing them with jobs that receive amazing benefits. It helps the real estate business in areas where casinos are built there are most likely to be a hotel somewhere nearby. There are several gambling companies that make charitable donations in their areas, by giving thousan...
Various definitions of tourism exist. Tourism is defined by Macmillan Online Dictionary as the business of providing services for those people travelling for holidays. Tourism has experienced continued growth over the years and diversification and has become one of the fastest growing economic sectors in the world. For countries like Australia, it has become one of the major contributing sectors in the economy generating large proportions of the national income and at the same time increase employment opportunities. The future is still bright for the industry in the country with possible future growth in expansion and diversification. The industry however has both the pros and cons impacts to various ranges of environments (Tourism Research Australia).
