The Impact Of Social Work

Working as a social worker although challenging, is a rewarding career. Social workers assist people and families to cope with problems they are facing in their lives. To understand more about social workers, I caught up with Margaret Jones, who is on a charitable mission in the country. Margaret, as she prefers to be called, was born in Haiti but after the devastating earthquake, which saw her lose four close relatives, decided to relocate to the United Kingdom where she got her current job.
However, the love for her job and the wealth of experience has since seen her travel to different countries on philanthropic missions. She is currently stationed in the country, an experience which she says has changed her life and would consider moving

She notes that taking green tea is part of her family tradition which passed down from her great grandmother. Margaret explains that she also likes promoting advocacy and resiliency, a feat that every social worker should possess.
Margaret claims that for social workers, recognition does not come easy although they are everyday heroes and heroines. “However, our success is often private since not many people seem to notice our contribution,” she remarks when I ask her whether people send thank you notes to her desk. The impact of social work can nevertheless be felt in the social media platforms and blogs where people have taken to educate others on its benefits and challenges.
It is not a secret that Margaret Jones loves what she does as one can see how she uses her imagination to cater for the needs of different people. The 44-year old explains that the platform has provided her with an excellent opportunity to express herself in ways that positively impact other people. She says although the career path has not been easy, she can at least reap the rewards since she had to learn and grow before she can help other

Her biggest learning curve came when she was promoted to project manager at the age of 24 and send to a town 70 miles from her home.
She was sent to a non-social work environment which had numerous work barriers. The people she was assigned to work with showed her little to no support, which frustrated her efforts. She wanted to quit but thought about the hope the same people she was helping had lost.
She decided to stay on but it was not long before she started experiencing burnout and work-related fatigue. She also had home sickness for being away from her mother, whom she terms as her pillar in life and a person she looks up to whenever she has a problem. She tells me that those who chose to help other people do so because it is their nature to help others get out of problems, as she fiddles with her corn
