Over the last decade, the mobile phone has become a rapidly emerging technology, presenting both opportunities and challenges to many areas of the social landscape, including higher education (Alobiedat, 2012). Cell phones, a cellular device, which don’t only allow people to make or receive calls and messages, but also feature programs such as: the web, a camera, games to play, and more. It offers so many options to perform with a cell phone, it leaves a computer futile considering everything needed is right in a cell phone. Likewise, cell phones have been made accessible to people and young adults are the ones to benefit the most in this digital age. According to Lever and Katz (2007), one impact of mobile phones on society comes from students anywhere/anytime characteristic, which often results in their use in social settings, such as restaurants, theatres, classrooms and sidewalks, where co-located people may be affected (Alobiedat, 2012). Since it’s common to have your cell phone wherever one go, students may have forgotten when the appropriate time to use your cell phone is and when it is inappropriate. Although many professors suggested that a cell phone policy be clearly articulated in the course syllabus (Tindell& Bohlander, 2012), whether the professor would prefer students have their mobile phones off or on vibrate. A research conducted by Tindell and Bohlander (2012) found that ‘‘95% of students bring their phones to class every day, 92% use their phones to text message during class time, and 10% admit they have texted during an exam on at least one occasion’’. Although many students are texting and surfing the web during class, Tindell and Bohlander research has shown that students find it inappropriate, yet continue to perform such act in class. Palen et al. (2001) found that tolerance for mobile phone use in public increased after participants became heavier users of the technology (Alobiedat, 2012). Then, there is the case where students are distracted in class due to focusing their attention on their devices. Also, the constant use of one cell phone at the wrong time. The mobile phone will continue to improve, making it impossible for a student to pay attention in class.
