The Immigrants have a positive impact on our society. Although some argue otherwise, they say they bring overcrowding, drug trafficking, and diseases. It is ironic how "the country founded by Immigrants- Immigrant has somehow become a bad word"(K'Naan). Nevertheless, they impact positively on our economy and bring their cultural knowledge. Being an immigrant in America is not an essay task. They are working long hours and working multiple jobs. Because American dollar has greater value, immigrants will take any job that pays better than their home country. They are the ones taking the unwanted jobs of Native Americans. They have given many tests in their life to finally come to America with the dream of being free but once they came to America they are forced to give much more test while destroying their …show more content…
The story begins with two sisters, one is five and other is seven years old, both are in the courtroom. They are from a small village in Guatemala. Luiselli was interviewing them while their mother observed from the back. While the younger sister was lost in coloring the older was answering luiselli's questions with an adult-like position. With each answer being answered Luiselli was losing hope for them to stay in the United States. In order to open a door for their legal immigrant status, they need to have "enough battle wounds to show" that they had been put in danger, abuse, or even threatened to be killed by gangs. With these answers finding these children a lawyer will be difficult, and with no lawyer, the percentage of being deported is hundred percent. This is not the end, there are many more cases she goes through throughout the book. Mattie is a woman who owns the Jesus Is Lord Used Tire shop and houses illegal immigrants in her home. Esperanza is in the hospital because she tried to commit suicide and Estevan is at Taylor’s house explaining why things are like this for him and his wife. He talks about their life in Guatemala and explains, “‘In Guatemala you are careful. If you want to change something you can find yourself dead’” (143). This quote from Estevan gives both Taylor and the readers a glimpse of what life was like for them in Guatemala. Mattie taking in Estevan and Esperanza puts an end to their suffering and looming death that was always present in Guatemala, even if her decision was not “right” in the eyes of law. Kingsolver further proves that morality comes over legality by showing how much better their lives have become in Mattie’s care. When Taylor and Estevan are sitting together at their picnic, they start talking about life now. Estevan explains how Mattie has created an amazing life for him and Esperanza here and how he enjoys his job. This shows that through Mattie’s morality, Estevan and Esperanza were able to live better lives. If Mattie had never brought them in and instead followed the law, they would have most likely been captured and killed in Guatemala because of the political corruption

I believe that the risks the migrants are willing to take to keep their family happy and healthy are courageous and beyond reproach. The mothers, fathers, brothers, and sisters who travel to the United States leave behind their country, language, and people in hopes that they will be able to build a life for their family and leave the crime, danger, and joblessness of their home country forever. In my opinion, the main idea of the story is one that should be shared with people from every nationality and ethnic background. This story’s main idea and theme exhibit the importance of family and just how hard people are willing to work in order to maintain happiness and peace within their home.

Immigrants create a diverse country and build up a great nation like America. On the other hand, illegal immigrants tear down a country economically. Illegal immigration to the United States creates a variety of problems that will only grow worse if not addressed by the federal government.
America is known famously throughout the world with the nickname 'The melting pot.' The reason behind this is that America is extremely diverse and has many different people. The emotional letter that Juan left for his mother might be one of the most emotional scenes in the documentary. The pure emotions that the letter was written by Juan to her mother leaves the audience with the bonds and emotions felt between the kids and families. Juan Carlos’s father abandoned the family years ago and left to New York, consequently Juan believe it is his responsibility to provide for his family. He also wants to find his father in New York and confronts him about why he has forgotten about them. The story of Juan is not just about migration of children, but also the issue of family separation. The documentary does not dehumanize but rather bring the humane and sensitive lens to the story of Juan where the human drama that these young immigrants and their families live. Juan Carlos is not the first of Esmeralda’s sons to leave for the United states, his nine-year-old brother Francisco was smuggled into California one month earlier. Francisco now lives with Gloria, his grandmother, who paid a smuggler $3,500 to bring him to Los Angeles, California. Once Juan Carlos is in the shelter for child migrants his mother eagerly awaits him outside. After she sees him she signs a paper that says if Juan Carlos tries to travel again, he will be sent to a foster home.

Economically, immigrants greatly boost the economy by providing new job opportunities, more money to companies, and reducing the unemployment rate. A large influx of immigrants will help many companies because of supply and demand, more people equals more needs to be provided. With the average immigrant worker working at lower wages, immigrants reduce the amount of money a company loses when paying their employees.
Life of the Immigrants in My Antonia William Cather provided a great amount of information about the "old wild west" and the expansion of the United States. In My Antonia, Jim Burden tells a story of his childhood, the people in his life, and the struggles he and his surroundings faced during this time.
