Often, we paint a picture of our own ideal home in which we dream we’d eventually live in someday. For some, it is easier financially to purchase this dream home and for others maybe if we won the lottery it’s only a dream we’d hope would come true. Some may picture this ideal home to be a huge two or three-story house with lots of land, a pool, and a two-car garage. As for others, maybe something spacious enough for the family yet convenient and beautiful. As we imagine living in these ideal homes it seems to be the perfect fit, in a safe location, peaceful, and comfy. She’s probably never comfortable because her and her family lived from one place to another place renting out different apartments in which made it hard for them to call their home, home. Or maybe she’s stuck on a specific imagination she has of what their home should look like. The way that she’d describe the apartments they’d live in makes it hard to understand how they were ever going to be content with a family of six described as Mama, Papa, Carlos, Kiki, and Nenny. The writer writes how in some of the places they’d have to carry gallons of water next door to use the washroom, nail wooden bars to the window so that they wouldn’t fall out and even, be careful not to make too much noise or else their landlord would bang on the ceiling with a broom. I can only assume that Esperonza would dream of having a huge home for her family with lots of room and less worries. One that will make her and her family happy and she’s be proud to say, “that’s where I live”. But in this case, that’s now how the story …show more content…

Yet when she finally sees it, it’s nothing like what Mama and Papa always talked about. Her parents finally bought their very own house and though it is their own home Esperonza and her family seems to still be unsatisfied. She pointed out all the things she didn’t find appealing about the house and even was disappointed at the fact they’d all shared rooms because the house was small. It had the many things that they were missing in the apartments they’d live in previous but it still wasn’t the ideal home for her and her family. She explains, “The house on Mango Street isn’t it” it being the house she’d hope to live in. Esperonza was disappointed yet another place of residence where her and her family was disappointed. Reading the story, the family may have little means of finances so it could be hard for them to purchase a huge home in an excellent location with lots of space. Especially having such a large family Esperonza’s parents probably could only get what they could afford and with her being so young she may have not gained understanding to
