Recommended: History importance
History is important to me because I have been trained that we lose time rather than gain it due to our Western way of English that quantifies times as something to be counted and ticked away. As a linguistics major with a deep interest in history, I gained more perspective on history after learning about Hopi culture. The Hopi see the time as gaining increments and preparing for the next. Upon knowing that I realized that history and events are not about lost to mourn over but instead events that can prepare me for the present. In that same vein, history prepares everyone for the present that that is why it is important. That is why history is important to me, it lays the road map of what can be created rather than what is done. My passion
One of the things I found was The clothes worn by the men included loincloths or short kilts which were made from a long rectangular piece of animal skin or cloth which was worn between the legs and tucked over a belt. The men started to wear cotton shirts and shorts, and a headband They wore moccasins made of soft leather. The type of clothes worn by the women of the Hopi tribe were cotton dresses called mantas which were fastened at a woman's right shoulder, leaving her left shoulder bare. Early women’s clothes included a dark blue woollen blanket that was fastened above the right shoulder and tied with a belt at the waist. When Hopi girls reach womanhood, their hair was dressed in two large whorls at the side of the head in a squash blossom.
In the southwestern United States, above northern Arizona, are three mesas. The mesas create the home for the Hopi Indians. The Hopi have a deeply religious, isolated, tribal culture with a unique history.
Did you know that the Ancient Indian people of the Southwestern United States have dated back to the year 10,000 BC? First appearing toward the end of the last Ice Age, they were the first “Americans.” (Noble, 1998) When Christopher Columbus arrived in the America’s in 1492 and seeing the people of this land for the first time, he thought that he had landed in India, thus giving them the name “Indians.” (Noble, 1998) However, he was nowhere near India, or that region of the world. Because the Ancient Indians were nomadic people, (people who wondered the lands with no permanent home) through the years they developed, separated, and re-located their clans, developing into what we know today as the American Indian. One group or tribe, are the Hopi Indians. Although the Hopi are still a tribe today, mostly living in Arizona, their population, traditions, skills, and crafts have dwindled throughout the years. Let us sit back, relax, and explore the ancestor’s of the Hopi tribe and learn about their traditions, skill, and crafts.
What do you think the Hopi Tribe is famous for?The Hopi Tribe lived in many locations and some of them are still here in Colorado River. They are in many locations. They still have many traditions. They live in Arizona today.
Q.2 Paden gives us four cross-cultural categories for the comparative study of religion : "myth" , "ritual" , "gods" and "systems of purity". Using these four categories, and to the best of your ability without necessarily doing outside research, analyze the Native American Hopi creation I have provided you.
Traditions and ceremonies were very important to the Hopi tribe. They did one of many ceremonies called the Soyal ceremony. This happened on the shortest day of the year. Another ceremony or tradition they celebrated was December. The reason why they celebrated this was that it was the day when the Kachinas came down from their homes in the San Francisco Peaks. To bring the sun back to the world. They also did dances, for say a dance like the Kachinas dance at the Winter Solstice.
The Hopi Indians lived on three isolated flat-topped hills with steep sides in northern Arizona. The Hopi Indians were forced to relocate by the whites because their lands were so bleak and lifeless. They were traditionally farmers and shepherds and lived in a few villages and most were near mesas. The Hopi Indian’s ancestors arrived through small holes in the floor of a kiva, kivas were used by Ancestral Pueblos. They also carved kahuna dolls, pottery and baskets. Most Hopis were educated from Hopi country to Carlisle Indian School in Pennsylvania. Some were told religious traditionalists that Hopi changes to Christianity.
“Don't be afraid to be afraid to cry it will free your mind from sorrowful thoughts.” - Hopi tribe
We determine what is important in history by how much it impacts the future. Events such as the Revolutionary War and Civil War will always be remembered in U.S. history. They had such a large impact on the shaping of our country and therefore will never be forgotten. Other events, however, such as the 1750 London earthquake is something not many people know about. Many parts of history will and have stood the test of time. World War I and II will both be remembered. They stay remembered because of how they affected the world. In both World Wars over 40 million people died. Other parts of history have faded away such as the War of 1812. It has faded away a bit because “only” around 23,000 people died. That is a lot of deaths, however, it is
Culture can be described as a set of ideas along with a pattern of behaviors that are taught, learned and passed through generations of people. The culture of a society or group has its own non-genetic traits that govern how individuals interact with others and the environment. Just as genetic traits evolve so can a culture, a shift or change in the environment can prompt a transformation on many different levels (Park, p.33,406). For instance, when the Spanish introduced horses to Native Americans it set off a chain of cultural events that changed Native Americans culture drastically. Although Native American tribes language, customs, and traditions varied greatly they all shared very semitrailer hunting techniques, and the prized game during
1. The importance of the study of world history to me personally as an American is very significant because I hope to find a career where I will work with many diverse people and I not only want to know them, but I want to have an understanding of where they came from in order to associate with them better. Another reason is that an American can be from any culture from around the world. Americans aren’t any certain race or religion, so we have to understand our fellow citizens just as they need to understand us.
What is history? History is the analysis and interpretation of the past. History allows us to study both continuity and change over time. It helps to explain how we have changed throughout time. Part of history is using pieces of evidence to interpret and revisit the past. Examples of evidence include written documents, photographs, buildings, paintings, and artifacts. Is history important? When looking at what the definition of history entails, it is clear to see history is in fact, important.
History is invigorating and intriguing. History has the ability to put knowledge in a new light. Imagine learning new critical pieces of information and then you visit a museum or place of that particular topic that you enjoy and placing the new information into practice is like getting all the pieces to fit into the puzzle. Now, the pieces fit in the puzzle before; but the person placed a bright LED light instead of a normal light in the light fixture. I have always loved learning, and history enables me to have that opportunity to learn something new. History is captivating to me because it is requires actively seeking knowledge, creates insight into other situations, and enables a person to research important events in history.
It is important to study history because it teaches us about not only our own culture but about cultures all around the world. Learning about other cultures and how they look a the world and what their opinion on certain things are , helps us learn better ways of avoiding conflicts. History is just a way of getting us to understand human life and helping us embrace new ways of making a healthier lifestyle. Studying history is very important to all of our society because it answers every question. History is everywhere so why not learn about
