The Holy Bible is Fact, Not Fiction
The Hebrew word used for "day" is the word yom. Every other time the word is used in the Old Testament in conjunction with a number, a literal, 24-hour period of time is being described; what we know as a day. The word is never used metaphorically in the Bible.
The verses most commonly used to say that the word day in Genesis could mean more than a 24 hour period are Psalm 90:4 and 2 Peter 3, which quotes Psalm 90:4.
Psalm 90:4 -
For a thousand years in Your sight Are like yesterday when it passes by, Or as a watch in the night.
2 Peter 3:8 -
But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day.
Notice the phrases "are like" and "is like." The Greek word used in 2 Peter is 3:8 for that phrase is like is the word hos, a word used in a figurative comparison - the word as.
We must always keep things in the proper perspective: Science is of men; the Bible is of God (2 Timothy 3:16 - "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness"). The almighty, all-powerful, omniscient, omnipresent God we worship obviously has the ability to create the world in an even shorter time; He could speak one word and it ALL would come into existence. He says in His Word that He created it in six days, why can't we let Him speak for Himself and take it at face value. God's Word is infallible, people ARE NOT.
Exodus 20:11 -
For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
Exodus 31:16-17 -
'So the sons of Israel shall observe the Sabbath, to celebrate the Sabbath throughout their generations as a perpetual covenant.' "It is a sign between Me and the sons of Israel forever; for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, but on the seventh day He ceased from labor, and was refreshed."
If we were to assume that Creation lasted more than 6 24 hour days, the "sign" the second passage speaks of would be a pretty poor sign - a comparison between a 6000 year creation and our 7 day week wouldn't be very meaningful.
A group called the Powers had their own thrones of doom and were the “most holy gods.” They held council which shows already that order and rule was important. The Powers chose to give names to different times of the day spanning morning, afternoon and night and so on. This structure allowed for a calendar-like count of the days and years so that people could keep track of time. If the sun was visible in one position it was a certain time and they’d know that next the sun would set and then the moon would begin to rise marking the end of a
... defines the scriptural meaning of the word “day” and explores its usage throughout the Scriptures to provide evidence for a literal six day creation. MacArthur dispels the notion that each day was a long period of time, an idea held by old-earth creationist, through scriptural insight that “whenever the word [day] is modified by a number the clear reference is to a normal solar day” (40). To MacArthur the word day marks “clearly defined boundaries” instead of indeterminate span of time (39). MacArthur beautifully challenges his readers to see that the purpose of Scriptural account of creation is to reveal an infinitely powerful God, who created everything perfectly in a short period of time (41).
In both texts the sun had a significant impact on their existence. In Genesis, God created light and darkness and called it day and night. Before he created light, it is stated in Genesis that “the earth was waste and void; and darkness was upon
As a famous author Ernest Hemingway has been credited for the creation of multiple critically acclaimed books. One in particular, A Farewell to Arms, while having received its fair share of approval, has also received multiple threats throughout the years to be banned by certain organizations and school systems. As respectful as I am on these groups’ opinions, I myself cannot help but disagree with their statements and viewpoints. In my point of view the book should not be banned because while it may contain some undesirable components, it is overall a moderate work of literature that has a deep foresight into heartfelt issues such as war, life, and love.
Decameron is a combination of Greek words for "Ten" and "Day". According to Frankforter, the

In part one of The Book of Genesis, God created the world. He did this in a total of seven days, taking six days to complete the task and one final day to rest. This final seventh day is now practiced as the holy day or the Sabbath. It deals with the relationship between God and the very natural elements he created that are essential for the sustainability of human life. If someone had extreme literal faith in the Bible, they would believe that God created the world verbatim as what is in The Book of Genesis. This is that on the first day, he created day and night, the second day he created the heavens from earth, the third he divided the lush vegetation from oceans and bodies of water. On the fourth day he created the sun moon and stars, the fifth he made sea creatures, and the sixth day he made humans and animals. Using reason, many people can conclude that the universe and everything in it was not made exactly like stated in The Book of Genesis. Those with a more interpretative faith take the creation of nature in a metaphorical sense. The universe rattles a sense of...
Some important events that happened there are things that have shaped the way we live today and we still use the 24 hour day they created this form of counting has survived for four thousand years. Another important event that happened there was the building of the tower of Babel the people built this tower to try and reach Heaven. It was most likely that the tower was used as a place of worship and to create a common religious centre, Gods only merciful alternative was to separate the people into different languages and countries to disable there plans. Because he had also promised himself never to destroy the earth with floods again because of the disobedience of mankind. So the punishment was quite mild compared to the global flood. Archaeologists have dreamed of finding the ruins of the tower but have been unsuccessful. There maybe biblical evidence as to why they have not found this tower of extreme significance. The story is much more than God simply interrupting a building project but it marks the origins of the languages and nations of the earth.
Even though heroism and patriotism go hand in hand in most cases, patriotism is shown comparably more in all three works as a theme. Hemingway’s novel and Alive Day share characteristics of patriotism as presented to their audiences. A Farewell to Arms specifically focuses on how America at the time of World War I believes that being a soldier is all about glory, honor, and courage. “Abstract words such as glory, honor, courage, or hallow were obscene beside the concrete names of villages, the numbers of roads, the names of rivers, the numbers of regiments and the dates,” (Hemingway
The Torah provides a calendar of festivals that have an important role in Judaism. At the heart of these festivals is the Sabbath Day that Jewish individuals engage in. The Sabbath is a weekly reminder of God’s work throughout the nation of Israel. The Sabbath is considered a day of “compassion” and “remembrance” of deliverance shown to God’s people.
In today’s society, many topics create a very substantial amount of controversy between different groups of people. From abortion to the healthcare reform, there are countless topics of discussion. One of the major and ongoing controversial topics in the religious community is the Big Bang theory versus Creation. One side of the controversy is, predominately, the scientific community, with the other end obviously being the religious community. Genesis 1:1-2 says: “First this: God created the heavens and earth—all you see, all you don’t see.
Ernest Hemingway’s classic novel, A Farewell to Arms, is one of the greatest love and war stories of all time. The success and authenticity of this tale is a direct result of Hemingway’s World War I involvement. The main character, Frederick Henry, encounters many of the same things as did Hemingway and creates a parallel between the author and character.
Crime drama is a genre that is hugely popular across the world and can been seen through CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (2000- present), The Wire (2002-2008) and Waking the Dead (2000- present). The different television genres, like a lot of other cultural forms, including literature and theatre has seen many writers, producers and viewers attracted to crime and deviance. There was a lot of backlash against the genre in the 1990’s as not a lot of people agreed with the depiction of crime and society on the television screen. Crime drama as a genre deals with social problems, which offers space for debates about the justice system, criminality, gender, race and social and cultural values that people struggle with today. The genre also gets the viewer involved in the storyline as that is the narratives main focus. Typically, there is a storyline per episode, but when talking about Waking the Dead there is a storyline every 2 part episode on a Sunday and Monday night. In this essay there will be a number of different characteristics of crime drama that will be discussed with detailed reference to three different series, to explore what the enduring appeal of the genre is.
'In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep; and the Spirit of God was moving over the face of the waters. And God said, "Let there be light"; and there was light…'(Gen 1:1.5) '…then the LORD God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being. '(Gen 2:7) This part from the bible is a typical example of what people used to believe before scientists came and gave logical explanations to the questions of mankind. It is possible, of course, to define a non-supernatural "religious" worldview that is not in conflict with science. But in all of its traditional forms, the supernatural religious worldview makes the assumption that the universe and its inhabitants have been designed and created by "forces" or beings which transcend the material world. The material world is postulated to reflect a mysterious plan originating in these forces or beings, a plan which is knowable by humans only to the extent that it has been revealed to an exclusive few. Criticising or questioning any part of this plan is strongly discouraged, especially where it touches on questions of morals or ethics. Science, on the other hand, assumes that there are no transcendent, immaterial forces and that all forces which do exist within the universe behave in an ultimately objective or random fashion. The nature of these forces, and all other scientific knowledge, is revealed only through human effort in a dynamic process of inquiry. The universe as a whole is assumed to be neutral to human concerns and to be open to any and all questions, even those concerning human ethical relationships. Such a universe does not come to us with easy answers. We must come to it and be prepared to work hard. According to Thomas W. Clark science and religion are in a battle from the day that scientists got in the fields of the theologises
Here, God makes the Earth and all that is in it in six days. At the end of each day “God saw that it was good”. The word “it” in this statement is referring to the sun, moon, stars, plants, animals etc. that God created on those days. In essence, at the beginning of creation God made everything perfect.
