The director of “The Hobbit” changed certain scenes from the book to revise the movie. The movie was based off of the book by J.R.R Tolkien. The book is about a hobbit named Bilbo that goes on a journey with dwarves and a wizard named Gandalf. When the director made the movie he changed some scenes throughout the movie to make the storyline more exciting than the book. Two examples where the author changed scenes from the book is when bilbo kicks gollum while escaping and when Bilbo finds Gollum’s ring. The first difference I found between the book and movie is bilbo kicking Gollum in the head during his escape. Although in the book BIlbo doesn't kick Gollum in the head. For example Tolkien wrote “Straight over Gollum’s head he jumped, seven
feet forward and three in the air.”(tolkien 87). This shows that in the book when Bilbo escapes he doesn't kick Gollum, he just leaps past him and leaves to find the group. The director Peter Jackson chose to change the scene and have Bilbo kick Gollum in the head to make Bilbo’s escape more suspenseful. For example if Bilbo just jumped over Gollum’s head it wouldn't be exciting.Another difference I found was Gollum’s personality. In both the movie and the book Gollum has a split personality. But, throughout Gollum’s chapter in the book he doesn’t talk to himself as much as the director chose to act him out in the movie. For example in the book when Gollum finds the ring the the author wrote”
J.R.R Tolkien's action packed, fantasy driven, inspiring novel The Hobbit shows the message that everyone must know, that you should never give up even if all hope seems to be lost. It shows setting of evergreen forests with villages scattered along the paths of which they must take and mountains just on the horizon. The read must go along with bilbo baggins a hobbit that does not realize there is more to him than just being a baggins and that he will live up to his family's name. Even after gandalf tells him that he will embark on a great adventure he still doesn’t believe he is anymore than just bilbo. Therefor this story is inspiring and shows that with the setting, character, and theme combined make this story a great read.
Throughout, J.J.R Tolkien’s The Hobbit, many themes come into place to give a better understanding of the novel. The underlying theme of the struggle between good vs. evil while Gandalf and the dwarves fight the evils during their journey through middle earth. The battle is manifested in the goblins, Trolls, and spiders where good always triumphs evil. Even though the journey is about stealing the gold back from the dragon there is still some moral clarity to this, the dragon stole the gold and torched the city. The dwarves want to make this right and get back what was rightfully theirs.
In JRR Tolkien’s novel The Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins, the protagonist, undergoes the five stages of the hero’s journey: departure, initiation, the road of trials, the innermost cave, and return and reintegration into society. When the adventure is all done, Bilbo takes away an important lesson about who he is from his travels. Thus The Hobbit, the novel by JRR Tolkien is an example of a heroic quest for identity, because the protagonist, Bilbo goes through each aspect of the hero’s journey and learns about who he is.
In J.R.R. Tolkien 's novel, The Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins goes through a classic representation of the Hero’s Journey. Throughout the story, Bilbo transitions from being a complacent, sheltered hobbit, to a more adventurous hobbit. The Hobbit has all three parts of the hero’s journey; The Departure, Initiation and The Return, all of which is interpreted throughout the quest.
All in all, Bilbo has changed a great deal in The Hobbit. He went from flat, static, main, and protagonist to round, dynamic, main, and protagonist. He changed all throughout the books, but the five biggest chapters were chapter two, five, eight, nine, and twelve. Bilbo once was a very peaceful Hobbit. Now he is a bold adventurous Hobbit who takes risks. Therefore, Bilbo Baggins is a changed Hobbit at the end of the story.
Aladdin, a Disney Classic Movie, in my opinion, teaches kids and adults alike some of life’s most important lessons. First, Aladdin teaches that sometimes what we seem to want the most is not as we expect it to be. Next, the story of Aladdin also teaches that there are always people who think just to gain for themselves even if they seem to be our most trusted friends. Most importantly, Aladdin teaches us that one must not lie about or pretend being someone that they’re not just to impress. I have found that every Disney movie has something to teach and Aladdin, in between humor, action, and love, teaches these lessons in such a memorable way.
Finally, as the novel is coming to an end, it is apparent how much Bilbo Baggins has changed throughout The Hobbit. In the introduction of the book, Tolkien displays Bilbo as a fearful creature afraid to follow his Took roots. As the book continues, Bilbo sees things that change him and make him a stronger hobbit than the old Bilbo. By the end of the book, Mr. Baggins finally gained his well earned respect and found out that being an adventurer is not an awful thing to be. So, it seems as if the theme of change in The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien was shown through Bilbo’s character.

The Hobbit, written by John R. R. Tolkien, is a fantasy novel published on September 21, 1937. It was written as a prelude to the famous series, The Lord of the Rings, written seventeen years later. The Hobbit introduces the reader to an incredibly immersive fantasy world, that enriches the reader into its epic storyline. The story takes place in a land called Middle-earth, a land filled with enchanting surprises and magical wonders. It was the perfect playground for Tolkien to develop his main character Bilbo Baggins. Bilbo Baggins was a small hobbit, who unaware in the beginning would become a large role in the plot. It is through this character that Tolkien implemented the theme of heroism into the story. Bilbo’s unexpected adventure with the dwarves and the wizard gave him the opportunity to develop into the ultimate hero of Tolkien’s tale. Bilbo’s epic journey to become the hero of the story begins when Gandalf, the wizard, tells Bilbo of an expedition that would soon change his life forever.
Throughout The Hobbit by J.R.R tolkien, themes are portrayed and are necessary for the story line. The three main themes in the novel are the prevalence of greed, how Bilbo changes throughout the story and transforms into a hero and the conflict between good and evil. Greed can change anybody, no matter how heroic or brave they are. In the beginning bilbo is portrayed as quiet hobbit that likes to stay home but that all changes with a knock on the door.
Once Upon a Time is a television series aired on ABC, a company owned by Disney’s conglomerate. With this said, it is important to acknowledge Disney’s own adaptation of Disney characters into a series. Once Upon a Time mentions various Disney characters; however, for the purpose of this assignment I will focus on three characters and their origination, to analyze and contrast to this adaptation. The characters to be analyzed are Peter Pan, Belle, and Mulan. While analyzing these characters, we’ll visualize how each character’s personality changes, as the medium of adaptation changes. In the television series there is not only a change in character, but there is a change in setting, garments, language, tone, and a target audience. During this
Lord of the flies, a film passed on William Golding's novel, mostly known for his prize-winning novels. In 1954 Golding published his first novel (Lord Of The Flies), which found a place in the Modern Library 100 Best Novels. Lord of the flies adapted to film in 1990 by the director Harry Hook, Meanwhile, the film got a huge success in many countries.
The only difference was that Gollum actually killed his friend over the ring during a fishing trip, while Bilbo had the chance to and said no. In doing so, Bilbo had control over the ring and the evil powers of it had no effect on him in that moment. Bilbo lives in the comfort of his little hole, living a very comfortable life. He has endless amounts of food to eat and is not a big fan of rawness.
