William Henry Gates III, or more commonly known as Bill Gates, was born on October 28, 1955 in Seattle, Washington. He began to show an interest in technology at the age of 13, creating a software program to play tic-tac-toe. Over time, he and his partner Paul Allen built the world’s largest software business, Microsoft. With Microsoft’s great success, Bill Gates turned out to be one of the richest men in the world. In February 2014, Bill Gates decided to step down as the chairman of Microsoft.
Microsoft started off as a small computer company with only 25 workers and a small office. However, Gates made sure the company’s products were first class. He personally reviewed every line of code the company shipped, usually rewriting them when he saw fit. Soon, his company started to grow with other companies such as Apple, Intel, and IBM. The main materials required for their products are glass, plastic and copper. Glass was required for their monitors, a special plastic is needed to make the disks, and copper is needed for the wiring. As time went by, many other computer industries, such as IBM were looking for software to operate on their computers. Many of them came to approach Microsoft. One of the first to do so was IBM.
IBM was looking for software to operate their upcoming PCs, and decided to approach Microsoft. Gates convinced them that his company could meet their needs, but the main problem was that they had not developed the basic operating system that could run on IBM’s PCs. Microsoft is a computing software company. Microsoft was made and founded on April 4th 1975 by two young men who were captivated by computers. Their names were Bill Gates and Paul Allen. The homebase was in Redmond, Washington. Microsoft became one of the most famous and successful companies in the world. “Microsoft was one of the pioneers responsible for bringing the personal computer into the lives of millions of people.” (Musolf). In the operating system (OS) segment, Microsoft initially brought in an existing product and modified this (MS-DOS) to work with the Intel microprocessor, which were the “brains” of the IBM PC. CCC officials were so impressed with the boys that they gave them jobs”(Mcguire 1).
