The Hidden Falls can become a tool that enlighten public in different ways. It is significant that people should realize the importance of water in urban development. Because people rely on water in their life, understanding how the Hidden Falls made contributions to the local community is a priority. The first evidence for proving the importance of the water in urban development is that the Hidden Falls creek brings a place where people is able to have recreational activities. For instance, the Hidden Falls provides people with a natural fishing court, because the quality of water in the past kept well. Its good quality of water supported the basic living conditions for the aquatic plants, as well as the fish. The microbe of
Many people know ‘Lake’ Powell as a fact of life. Since its creation in 1963, the reservoir, known as Lake Powell, is just there. Few people that are alive today have had the opportunity to see the true beauty of Glen Canyon, which rivals the Grand Canyon. Glen Canyon, equivalent to one hundred eighty river miles with dozens of side canyons, was flooded for the purpose of power and water resources. ‘Lake’ Powell also generates an enormous cash flow due to the tourism it receives. Although the ‘lake’ has a few reasons to remain in existence, there are many more reasons to drain it.
In the short story, The Fall of a City, by Alden Nowlan, Teddy’s dreams are crushed by his uncle when his dreams should remain true till the day he achieves his dreams and his uncle’s stereotypical behaviour influenced teddy is a negative way. It is important for children to pursue the personality and dreams they want to take with them into their future. Firstly, adult’s stereotypical behaviour can influence a children's future choices, but children should have their own dreams and goals to pursue so they get the life they deserve. “Paper dolls and doll houses. An eleven-year-old boy!” (Alden Nowlan, 133). We see how gender stereotypes come in the way of children achieving their goals and dreams since society tend to follow stereotypes every

In the chapter the “Rainy River” of the novel The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien, O’Brien conveys a deep moral conflict between fleeing the war to go to Canada versus staying and fighting in a war that he does not support. O’Brien is an educated man, a full time law student at Harvard and a liberal person who sees war as a pointless activity for dimwitted, war hungry men. His status makes him naive to the fact that he will be drafted into the war and thus when he receives his draft notice, he is shocked. Furthermore, his anti-war sentiments are thoroughly projected, and he unravels into a moral dilemma between finding freedom in Canada or standing his ground and fighting. An image of a rainy river marking the border between Minnesota and Canada is representative of this chapter because it reflects O’Brien’s moral division between finding freedom in Canada or standing his ground and fighting in the Vietnam war.
In the early 1880s, Chicago was a bustling city on its way to becoming one of great cities in the world. There was a problem though. Horrible sanitation problems plagued the city. The Chicago River was virtually an open sewer covered with visible filth. Most of the river’s worst pollution came from homes and bathroom waste thought the city. “Bubbly Creek” was one of the worst branches of the river. It was filled with enough stockyard waste to equal the pollution from a sizable city. To further the problem, all of the contents of the river flowed into Lake Michigan, polluting Chicago’s drinking water causing a sever outbreak of water born diseases.
The usage/control of waterways helped civilizations sprout in the past and in the present. Document 1 shows many examples of how control/usage of waterways helped sprout civilizations in the present and in the past. One example that is showed in document 1 is the Tigris and Euphrates River which helped civilizations sprout by providing hydraulic power and fresh water. Another example in document 1 is the Mekong River which helped civilizations sprout by the river provided irrigation to the crops. The next example from document 1 is the Yangtze River which helped civilizations sprout by it provided hydraulic power. Another example form document 1 is the Indus River which helped civilizations sprout by the river provides irrigation for the crops. The control/usage of the waterways give the essential’s for a civilization to start. In addition, the control/ usage of the waterways also made trade a lot easier.

Located in the popular Yosemite National Park, Yosemite Falls is the tallest waterfall in California. Every year, mother nature’s breathtaking beauty attracts millions of people from around the world. People hike for three long and fatiguing hours in anticipation of witnessing forceful water rushing down the steep mountain from 2,425 feet above. Last summer, my family and I backpacked through the Yosemite Falls Trail and I came to learn what a truly exhausting experience it is.
The Drowned Cities by Paulo Bacigalupi is a very interesting and captivating novel about a area in what used to be the US that is now plagued with war. An important quote from the beginning of the story is on page 71. At this moment, the two main characters, Mouse and Mahila are sent to collect food, but they find something unexpected. “It wasn't one creature, but two. Monsters intertwined. A big king of an alligator, and another creature- a thing that mahila hadn’t seen since the cease-fire died and the last of the peacekeepers cleared out, all of them running for the docks as the Drowned Cities returned to war. A half-man.” This is an important quote primarily because it is the first time the narratives from Tool’s perspective and the narrative from Mahila’s perspective meet. This is the end of the exposition and the beginning of the rising action. Before now, nothing had really happened except for introducing us to the characters and a quick little scene for all 3 of them. This is the first time that something actually happens that changes their lives (since we have know them.) This would be like when Harry Potter finds out that he is a wizard, or when Katniss Everdeen gets selected for the Hunger Games. This has a similar effect on the rest of the book like those two events impacted their respective books. Tool becomes a main character and follows Mahila around for the majority of the rest of the book, and he saves her life on countless occasions. If Mahila had found tool in a different way, by perhaps watching him from afar, their relationship would had ended quite differently. From the way Tool respects Mahila on in the book, we can tell that he has a lot of respect and adoration to her for saving his life after she found hi...
Over 70% of the usable freshwater is used for irrigation (“Human Impact on the Environment,” 2009-2015). From ancient people carrying buckets to water their plants to today’s modern methods, irrigation will be and has been a very important use for water. Many big industries and factories, including industries and factories in Michigan, are major users of water. These industries use water to fabricate, process, wash, dilute, or cool. (“Industrial Water Use,” 2000). Some factories may use more water than others, but water still plays a significant role to producing products that we use every day. Water is also used for transportation of products and materials. Big industries and factories often transport their products by means of water which is why most big cities such as New York City and Los Angeles as well as many cities in Michigan are also located near a body of water. Detroit is a big city in Michigan that uses its location near a river for transportation of goods and other things. Marquette, Michigan is also located on Lake Superior, and freighters are used to transport iron ore and other materials to and from the city. Marquette is also famous for being on Lake Superior because of the beauty and recreation. Tourists are often attracted to cities near water for the beaches, swimming, and other water activities. Other Michigan cities famous for their water recreation

In Ernest W. Burgess’s “The Growth of the City: An Introduction to a Research Project,” (1925), the author delves deep into the processes that go into the construction of a modern city or urban environment. Burgess lists its following qualities: skyscrapers, the department store, the newspaper, shopping malls, etc. (p. 154). Burgess also includes social work as being part of a modern urban environment. This is supported by his construction model based on concentric circles that divided Chicago into five zones. The first was called a center loop meant for a business district. Secondly, there was an area for business and light manufacture. Third, there was a “zone for working men’s homes” (p. 156). The fourth is the residential area of high-class apartment buildings. The fifth is where suburban houses are located.
This past June, I was given the opportunity to travel to Canada and see the expansive falls with my own eyes. Perhaps the most amazing aspect of the falls is that they are not in some far away place in the country. They are right smack in the middle of a town, the town of Niagara Falls. As a child, I envisioned the falls as a giant rushing shower of water. However, I could never have imagined the great beauty and breathtaking view the falls offer.
