The video MIDWAY a message from the Gyre: a short film by Chris Jordan gave me the chills and ultimately upset me. In the beginning of the short film the diretor shows us a glimpse of the seagulls that inhibit Midway Island, North Pacific Ocean, an Island that is more than 2,000 miles from the nearest continent. Jordan includes a clip of a mother gull feeding her baby gull before showing us snapshots of dead gulls with trash and plastic in their bodies. When i first saw these pictures I honestly thought that the photogragher arranged random pieces of plastic found on the isand into a dead seagull’s body. After the snapshots the director included a video of the photographer cutting open in a seagull’s body and taking random objects and pieces of plastic out. When I saw this my heart broke, I was in disgust and mad at us humans. The poor birds dying shown in the following clips were also very sad and graphic. These innocent birds are consumming …show more content…
plastic objects thinking they are food just because we humans are too lazy to pick up after ourselves. I am not sure what are all the health effects that plastics will have on seabirds population but I am sure none are beneficial. I am pretty sure the birds aren’t able to digest plastic like they do with food. An accomulation of these plastic objects may affect the amount the amount of room the seagull will have in its stomach for food. This will affect how much the bird will eat and the plastic may also puncture an organ, costing the seagulls life. While I was watching this video it reminded me of a trip to Umass Amherst I had a couple of weeks ago.
I went on a Peter Pan bus and the sitings in the begining of the trip were beautiul. I was thinking to myself how beautiful nature was, how clean and perfect everything looked had me amazed. Two hours into the ride the scenery changed but I was still amazed. I noticed trash almost everywhere I looked. The water from ponds we passed by were mucky. I noticed a sign saying “Welcome to Holyoke”, I paid attention to this city as we passed by it. Everywhere I looked I saw garbage and it seem like no one in this city cared. When we passed by a factory and I thought to myself that this city must be very polluted. As we entered more into the city, we began seeing builings, houses, stores, and restaurants. Not to my suprise these also looked trashed. We passed by many half burned apartments and buildings. All these places looked extremely old and I didn’t see many people around. Holyoke seem to me like a deserted and lost
city. Sometimes I wish people were more considerate about the enviorment and the creatures who inhibit them. Some people seem to be ignorant on the fact that just like other creatures, we need plants and oceans in our lives. Humans trashing the enviorement isn’t helping anyone and in fact is hurting everyone. The video MIDWAY a message from the Gyre: a short film by Chris Jordan gave me more to think and can be a real eye opener for those who liter and put our enviorement and wild species in danger.
The film Jindabyne, is a story about death, marriage, and race in an Australian town in New South Wales called Jindabyne. In the film, four men go fishing, and one of them discovers the dead body of a young indigenous girl. Instead of reporting what they found to the police immediately, they decide to stay and continue fishing. They decide that there is nothing they could do for her, so they tie her legs to a tree and continue with their fishing, reporting the death only when they return home. After they are done with their weekend of fishing and report the incident, conflict starts, as the men are criticized for not respecting the dead. Through the story of the town’s reaction to the four fishermen’s response to the dead girl, the movie shows Australia to be fragmented and divided over white-indigenous relations.

...stic breaks down into smaller bits that are not as easy to spot. These small pieces are then consumed by the oceans small organisms that are also the bottom of the oceans food chain. Once it enters the ocean food chain, plastic and its toxins can then be transferred to humans through the ingestion of seafood. The Midway Islands in the Pacific Ocean are home to many different bird species including the world’s largest number of albatrosses. Plastic items and waste materials are washed onto shore and mistaken by the birds as food. A wildlife manager by the name of Matt Brown cut open a dead albatross and found the contents of its stomach to have a large amount of plastic items including a part of a toothbrush, a bottle cap, and pieces of an old fishing net. Brown agrees with most scientists that it is going to take effort from society as a whole to fix this issue.
William Shakespeare has been considered one of the most influential and prominent writers of the English Renaissance and Elizabethan Era. He wrote quite a few tragedies and one of several fantastically written works and grew lots of admiration. His work has consequently influenced other works of literature, art, and theatre. King Lear, one of several of his works, was made into a video production in the 1980s. In this review, I will analyze how the written text is transcribed on screen, whether my impression of the written text is different from the movie production, which characters were portrayed poorly and which were not, and lastly, what aspects of the play that were not clear, became clear in the movie.

When considering the extent to which Guy Richie’s 2009 film, ‘Sherlock Holmes’ fulfils the conventions of crime/murder mystery genre you must look at his plot and how he has incorporated all the conventions so the movie is portrayed in the crime/murder mystery genre. Given that Sherlock Holmes is the most famous and well – known detective character in all of history, Guy Ritchie would have needed to meet certain audience expectations of how Sherlock Holmes would be portrayed and he would have also been required to approach all the conventions from a crime/murder mystery influence. Ritchie has especially fulfilled the character and iconography conventions because of the expectations that audiences will have about their traditional
Classical Hollywood Cinemas placed high emphasis on editing techniques such as continuity editing to put together a film. In this, various different edits and fragmentations of space were used to put together a scene that would direct the viewers attention towards one particular aspect of the film. The cuts were vital since they helped to build an association from previously taken shots to the next shot. This all was used to help the director produce a sort of continuity and set the mood and tone of the film. The director uses the cuts to produce a more continuous flow of images. The director creates space and then in the editing process he connects these spaces to guide its audience and to achieve spatial continuity. There are two types of continuity, spatial and temporal. While spatial represents continuity in an entire film, temporal is used to represent continuity in a scene. It is through this type of continuity that the director will establish and maintain a narrative. Classical Hollywood type of cinema also uses shot reverse shot
A philosopher by the name of Neil Carroll believes that, “the power of movies, their capacity to evoke unrivaled widespread and intense response-is, first and foremost, at least a result of their deployment of pictorial representation, variable framing and the erotetic narrative” (Carroll 94).
Having only been exposed to the performance side of things in high school, learning about the amount of work that goes into production offered me a refreshing look into theatre and all it entails. The hands on experiences of LX2 and SX were eye openers for me in terms of looking at what happens backstage while actors are rehearsing, which is the part of theatre I am most familiar with.
Throughout the years, many movies have had various music artist compose songs especially for their movie. Artist like Kenny Loggins and Michael Jackson have benefited greatly from making a soundtrack for a feature film. Some of the most successful soundtracks have come from blockbuster films such as “The Body Guard”, “The Lion King”, “Frozen” and many other films. Songs from these films have not only topped charts, but have comforted people during times of needs and have helped people discover who they are. “I see fire” revolves around what death means and how that can affect the people that have come near it and lost, as well as people that have lost somebody to it. Growing up I watched many princess movies. I loved all the pretty dresses and magic throughout them. These princesses all made it look so easy to be happy. With the wave of a wand or the kiss of a prince, all of your wildest dreams could come true. As I grew older, I realized that having the perfect dress and hair, glamorous castle, and all the happiness in the world would be a lot harder to obtain than the princesses made it seem. The princess culture sets a visually unrealistic standard for life with it’s flawless princesses and princes, extravagant castle lifestyles, and easily attainable happy endings.
