Statues and shrines of Our Lady of Consolation can be found in thousands of cities around the world. Constructed of marble, wood, or other stone, these replicas hold a special aura about them. One such sculpture of Our Lady of Consolation, located in Leopold, Indiana, has a fascinating history entirely its own. July 4, 2002 marked the 135th year since the statue had reached the shores of America (Hackmann 1). As the result of a promise, the replica of Our Lady found its new home in southern Indiana. Following their capture and shipment to the horrid Civil War prison at Andersonville, four young men—Isidore Naviaux, Henry Devillez, Lambert Rogier, and Xavier Rogier—endured appalling conditions and made an oath to pay tribute to Our Lady of Consolation if one survived.

Written by Margaret K. Pai, the Dreams of Two Yi-min narrates the story of her Korean American family with the main focus on the life journeys of her father and mother, Do In Kwon and Hee Kyung Lee. Much like the majority of the pre-World War II immigrants, the author’s family is marked and characterized by the common perception of the “typical” Asian immigrant status in the early 20th century: low class, lack of English speaking ability, lack of transferable education and skills, and lack of knowledge on the host society’s mainstream networks and institutions (Zhou and Gatewood 120, Zhou 224). Despite living in a foreign land with countless barriers and lack of capital, Kwon lead his wife and children to assimilate culturally, economically, and structurally through his growing entrepreneurship. Lee, on the other hand, devoted herself not only to her husband’s business but also to the Korean American society. By investing her time in the Korean Methodist Church and the efforts of its associated societies, such as the Methodist Ladies Aid Society and the Youngnam Puin Hoe, Lee made a worthy contribution to the emergence and existence of Hawaii’s Korean American community.
According to Brook (p.831), a memory palace is “a mnemonic method that was popular with sixteenth-century Jesuits for retaining memory.” In the book, Matteo Ricci, a pious Christian, tried to impress the Chinese by using his memory skills. He also hoped that they could be interested in his culture and thus interested in God (p. 140). With that fierce political and financial situation and religious fermentation, it was really tough for Ricci and other preachers to preach in China. In order to reach a goal which makes the people in China believe in God, they went through a lot of difficulties.

The Korean War Veterans Memorial Research Paper: The Korean War Veterans Memorial is an ominous depiction of an American squad on patrol alongside a 164 foot mural wall, to show that freedom is not free. The memorial is dedicated to those who served in the Korean War but more importantly those of them who were killed in action, are still missing in action, or were held as prisoners of war. The memorial was created by Frank Gaylord and Louis Nelson. The objective of the memorial is to remind the public of the dedication to the United States of the men and women who served in the Korean War. The memorial was designed to show the trials and tribulations that many of the military personnel faced during the war.
The first Memoir of 1795 was addressed to the heir of her natal family and took the form of a public appeal in her effort to reestablish her family’s moral legitimacy and honorable family tradition. Before we explore her memoir, it is important to note that she felt responsible for her family’s downfall – believing that her marriage into the royal house had led to directly their suffering and decline. Beyond the scholarly merit of her stories, they are important in the view Lady Hyegyong provides of the court life and the strict Confucian beliefs that stress filial piety, loyalty and virtue. The actual building itself appears similar to a castle. The architecture had royal features due to the triangular points on the top of the building. There were three open doors; one big main entrance in front, two small side doors, and all the guests entered through the main entrance. Once I walked in, a big gold Buddha was centered in the back surrounding multiple iconic religious statues. There seemed to be about a hundred religious statues highly dazzled in silver or good.
Korea’s legendary founder, Dangun, established an ancient state which is now known modernly as Pyongyang, located in modern day North Korea. He is known for uniting the people during 2333 B.C. Koreans currently celebrate Dangun Day every October 3rd, known as National Foundation Day, which is supposedly the birthday of this god-like figure. There is no evidence that he actually existed, yet Koreans believe in this original founder of their country.
Korea’s original name, Choson, Meant “land of the morning calm.” The country’s history has been shaped by frequent invasions from its neighbors. Korean history is divided into three main periods: the silla (668-935), Koryo (935-1392), and Yi (1392-1910) dynasties. The name “Korea” is derived from the middle dynasty of Koryo. Foreign influence-direct and indirect-occurred throughout these dynasties. All of Korea’s foreign overlords-Mongolian, Chinese, and Japanese instituted a closed-door policy in order to solidify their rule. This isolation earned Korea the name of the Hermit kingdom.
The original concrete was poured at Kuhmo by the east coast. Later that year in December the DPRK removed all ties with the IAEA and the plants in Yongbyong. They then ordered the inspectors out of Korea. Later that year they restarted the smaller reactors and restarted the recreation of the 8000 irradiated fuel rods to save the weapon grade plutonium. Around April in 2003 North Korea became the only country to withdraw from the NPT. Later that year some new nuclear reactors were in commision for assembly until KEDO was suspended and was restored in 2004 and 2005. Around May in 2006 the project was finally brought to an end. Just about all or most of the the steam generators, pressure vessels and all the other necessary materials were completed by the time this suspension came into effect. During 2006 in December the DPRK underwent trials of a new nuclear weapon underground. This was later reported to the UN Security Council. About 2 or 3 months later in February 2007 the DPRK made an agreement with the six-party talks with China, Japan, Russia, USA, and South Korea. The agreement consisted of the DPRK shutting down the nuclear plants at the Yongbyong reactors and the processing plants related to that plant by April 14th. While this was happening the IAEA was to monitor this and ensure the closing of this specific plants and reactors and in exchange for the needed assistance with the energy loss. Unfortunately they missed the April 14th deadline. After some time and some extremely well thought plans the reactors were then shut down around the middle of July 2007. The plants had been used to send used fuel to Mayak in Russia or Sellafield in the UK in order for it to be salvaged. The second part to the agreement that wasn’t upheld what to have taken stock of all the nuclear materials in the factories and to
