The Never Ending Dream Everyone’s goal in life is happiness. Happiness comes in many forms and it is subjective to any individual. In order to satisfy one’s pursuit to happiness, they must evaluate their interests in life. In the novel written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, “The Great Gatsby”, Gatsby’s pursuit towards happiness all depends on Daisy. Fitzgerald ends the novel with “Gatsby believed in the green light,the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that’s no matter—tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther ... And then one fine morning—So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past” because he wanted to demonstrate the sacrifices people have to make in order to achieve their form of happiness.Furthermore the quote illustrates that people are still caught up in the past in hopes of changing it reaching the green light which is parallel to the American dream.
