Carlton and Rignuth visited Audra for the next two mornings. Carlton demanded she state she was ill, so he might release her early, but she refused. On the final morning, she was freed from her cell well before sunrise and was more than ready to fall into bed and get a few hours of proper sleep for the first time in days. However, first, she insisted on speaking to Macsen, who had several more days of his sentence left to serve. “That’s fine,” said Carlton. “Have you left Macsen down here, Carlton, with no visitors and not a word from you, stuck in a solitary cell?
