In The Glass Castle you can see that there are families who don't have it all as you can see with the Walls family in this memoir. There are multiple themes you see throughout the memoir such as: family, creativity, and struggle, etc. But in this essay I will be talking about the differences and similarities of these themes from the memoir and movie. I will be focusing more on Jeanette Walls, and her father, Rex Walls. The first theme I will cover is “Creativity”. In the story you can see Jeanette making her own braces with a rubber band and a clothes hanger. Which in the movie was only mentioned when she was older during a conversation between Jeanette and Rex. In both the movie and the story you can see Rex’s creativity when he couldn’t get gifts for the kids so he told them to pick a star. "The dreams came in all shapes and sizes: painted on the walls, etched into the side of the mountain, gushing up out of the springs. They were as random and chaotic as dreams themselves, and they sometimes seemed as impossible to realize."
