If you didn’t know we do not live in a utopian society, but in the Giver they DO live in a utopian society until a boy named Jonas uncovers what the community is really doing. The Giver is about a new adult in the community(Jonas) who receives an important job. Then as Jonas progresses in his new job he slowly uncovers the real truth about the community. Me myself would not want to live in a utopian society personally,but it would be nice to not have to worry about anything. I would not be Interested in a utopian society where you can't feel, love, and see colour.But who knows maybe we secretly already live in a utopian society. In The Giver Jonas is chosen for a very honorable job, but as he starts progressing in his job he uncovers everything his community is taking away from everyone. In The Giver the Giver says that “The worst part of holding the me,oriels is not the pain, it's the loneliness of it. Memories need to be shared(Giver).” In The Giver the job Jonas is chosen for is called the receiver of memory. What the receiver does is holds all of the memories from back and back and back to provide wisdom to the other leaders on important decisions in the community. When you are born you are assigned a family which is called a family unit. This is sort of like a adoption process but to be valid parents you have to marry which takes awhile because they assign that to you as well . You can only have two children one boy and one girl. You are also assigned a name and every December you move up a number so after a year your baby turns a 1 which is basically 1 years old. As you get older you get things like jackets and a bicycle. Once you turn twelve you get a job and then the numbers don't matter. Once you're old enough to have a spouse then you will get your own family unit and your parents go to a different unit for childless
