The Girl with the Red Slippers vs Cinderella The Girl with the Red Slippers and Cinderella are two stories that both revolve around two young women, their separate lives, and the circumstances they endure. “Cinderella” introduces a young girl trapped within the restrictions of her evil stepmother’s home, under constant surveillance. The Girl with the Red Slippers describes the story of Rhodopis a young slave whose life was amended by an exceptionally rich merchant named Charaxos. Although the two stories have different plots and setting that are unalike, there are some similarities. The connections the two stories have are that the two women lost a shoe and they married into royalty. Some other correspondences were that they both had special
shoes to their distinct stories, they were both found by the messengers, and were both happy after they got married. Another important similarity was that they were both acquiesce to the forced labor. While the stories were closely alike, there were several important differences. In contrast to the similarities the difference have a number of cover-ups for the amount of similarities. Some of the difference I noticed where reading the different stories were that the shoes colors were dissimilar and the beliefs were poles apart. Another unalike situation I noticed was that the way the shoes were separated was different and that the reaction when the shoe was missing was entirely contrasting. Rhodopis was dreadful when the eagle stole it while Cinderella didn’t mind, she just kept running. Most importantly, they probably in different time periods due to the way they were individually written. Cinderella and The Girl with the Red Slippers shows the difference and the similarities of both protagonists and their respective situations. While Perrault's version stresses the values and materialistic worries of his middle-class audience, Grimm’s' focus is on the harsh realities of life associated with the peasant culture. Perrault’s and Grimm’s Cinderella’s have the same plot, but their writing style is different which completely modifies the tale.
The two films, Maid in Manhattan and Pretty Woman, can be considered a modern day Cinderella story. The two plots are loosely based on the the Disney classic. The Disney Cinderella was known as innocent, naive, and passive.
