he gift of the magi is a short story about the irony of a couple trying to find the perfect Christmas presents for each other. The film of the sesame street version is very similar to the short story with a few minor differences. An examination of the two versions will reveal that most of the events in the plot line are very similar but it is fairly simple to find the differences between both versions.

I can compare the short story about the gift of the magi to the sesame street video based on the gift of the magi because in both stories the characters sacrifice their most cherished possession in order to get the perfect present for someone special in their lives.

In the short story the gift of the magi, it ends with Jim and Della acknowledging the irony in each others gifts and so they put the presents away until later. In the film of the sesame street version they are sad upon opening each others gifts until the shop keeper appears and gives them back both the possessions that they traded. Both Bert and Ernie are confused as to what had happened. In the end, the characters from sesame street almost instantly got back their traded gifts unlike della and jim from the gift of the magi who had to wait a long time to get theirs back or maybe not even get them at
