The Genocide In Sudan

The media is important for keeping us human. We know what is going on in the world, both the good & the bad. The genocide in Sudan & other countries, the school shootings in the United States. By knowing about these things, we can start doing something to help. We need to get people with mental health issues help before they kill others. If we don't know about them or if we see mental illness as something to be ashamed of, nobody will do anything to help.

People need more empathy for other human beings. We have become desensitized to the suffering of others. We have become selfish & focused only on what we want or need. We are rude to each other on the internet, we ignore the people who stand on corners asking for food. We automatically

assume that they are going to go buy alcohol or drugs with it. We don't even give anyone the benefit of the doubt. That's another reason we need the media. To show us the stories of real people who are struggling & see what they go through & that they do deserve our empathy & our help.

During the Civil Rights movement, a lot of people in the North were horrified to see how black people were being treated in the South. The didn't know how bad it was until the media televised the peaceful march in Selma, Alabama. They saw the police brutality for themselves & were horrified. They saw the conditions that black people lived in & what they went through every day. Because of the media, they were able to see the speech of Martin Luther King Jr. as well as others.

During WWII , the media used posters, cartoons, radios, magazines & newspapers to urge Americans to join in the war effort. They told people to conserve on things like sugar, butter, meat & coffee, so that the soldiers would have more. They had people making victory gardens so they could grow their own food. People also bought more war bonds.

The media keeps us human. When a child is missing, it's instantly on the news now & they have more hope of finding that child alive. The media brings people who care & the ones who want to make a difference together which makes the world a better place. So I agree that Freedom of Speech & the media are important to keep & support.
