Closure or Ammo, by Sharryn Dotson, propels readers into the world of the urban, single woman by following the antics of best friends: Alana Rivers and Valerie Wright. Virtually sisters, Lana and Val love one another and share the daily minutia of their lives. Consequently, emotional upheavals, sexual conquests, and budding relationships are the topic of conversation over many a glass of wine or late night phone call. Alana, a career advertising executive, works hard at her job but plays even harder. Since losing her husband, Lana tries to fill the emotional void by bar hopping and bringing home strange men. Her promiscuous behavior concerns Val and her partner on the job, Adrian Young. The situation becomes even worse when Lana meets and falls for her new boss, Leo Piazzo. Adrian and Val both warn Lana of the dangers of an affair with the boss, but she is drawn to Mr. Slim and Sexy, her nickname for Leo. A hot affair ensues but burns out fast. Has Lana ruined her career? Meanwhile, Valerie’s life takes some drastic turns. Her son’s father, Andre, is arrested and she becomes the sole guardian of her son. Detective Travis Clarkson shows up at her door to question Val about Andre’s drug and gang related activities. Val is attracted to the sexy …show more content…
detective and after additional meetings, he offers to befriend her and mentor her son. Val agrees and mutual attraction between the two develops into an exciting and satisfying relationship. In Closure or Ammo, Dotson develops her characters through abrupt and engaging dialogue.
Their conversations reveal their hopes, fears, and insecurities. Lana is damaged, lost, and trying to find happiness through sexual promiscuity. Her friends all encourage her to be careful, but her need to escape the pain of losing her husband makes her vulnerable. After losing Leo, she spins even further out of control. Taking advantage of Travis’s connection is law enforcement she asks for a background check on Leo. Travis reluctantly agrees and asks Lana if she wants it for closure or for ammo, thus the title of the book. What will Lana do with this information? Will this drive a wedge between Val and her new
love? Overall, Closure or Ammo rates 3 out of 4 stars for me. Dotson’s approach to and portrayal of her character’s strengths and weaknesses was intriguing. The story did involve romance, but I found that too tame a word for the sexual encounters in the book. The erotic scenes were raw and frenzied, especially between Lana and Leo. The themes of single parenting; loss and grief; exploring new relationships; and betrayal, were what I liked the most about the story. What I liked the least were some of the outcomes for the characters. Be prepared for some shocking developments for both Val and Lana! I would recommend this book for readers who enjoy erotic romance. It also provides an opportunity for readers looking for diversity in their main characters who are all black in Closure or Ammo.
It is the day Cali will remember for the rest of her life, for it is the day Cali Millhouse discovers her uncle was murdered by a family member. It is Two o'clock and half of the town of Rosewood is piling inside the local funeral home. Mrs. Dunham pays her respects to everyone except Cali’s father, Steve, for Mrs. Dunham finds him to be evil. Maybe she is right, and he killed Cali’s uncle? Whether he was or not, it is still a sad day and she needed the comfort of her father. That morning the sheriff came by and informed Cali and her family that someone related to Keith killed him. Audrey blamed Steve as much as her blamed her, nevertheless you could feel their acrimony towards each
She is fairly new to the work world and has lied on her resume’ to get hired, and realizes that the job is harder than she first thought. All hope is not lost because Violet assures her that she can be trained. She ends up succeeding at the company and telling her husband she will not take him back after he comes back begging for her love again.
All through the times of the intense expectation, overwhelming sadness, and inspiring hope in this novel comes a feeling of relief in knowing that this family will make it through the wearisome times with triumph in their faces. The relationships that the mother shares with her children and parents are what save her from despair and ruin, and these relationships are the key to any and all families emerging from the depths of darkness into the fresh air of hope and happiness.

Hampered by the need for secrecy, Fran slowly overcomes impoverishment, loneliness and fear to make new emotional connections. But the price she pays for this triumph is terrible, and all too real. Above all, Quindlen is wise and human. Her understanding of the complex anatomy of marital relationships, of the often painful bond of maternal love and of the capacity to survive tragedy and carry on invests this moving novel in the clarion ring of truth. In the United States we face many issues such as poverty, death, health, and many others. But the issue that is currently effecting society the most is foreclosure. What is foreclosure?
