Five of the 26 alphabet letters are vowels. The objective of this lesson plan was to introduce the five vowels as an introduction to learning the alphabet. First of all, I chose this lesson plan, because it is developed in a comprehensive and systematic way. As well, the teacher introduces the topic in a simple manner in which students can get involved in the lesson. The teacher captures the attention of students by singing the vowels ' song. In my perspective, students retain the letter names easier by singing songs such as the alphabet and vowels songs. First of all the objective outlined that students will identify, the five vowels of the alphabet, correctly pronounce the sounds, independently write all the vowels, and listen attentively to teacher by participating in all activities. In the first learning activity the teacher shows the different pictures that he uses during the anticipatory step. It matches the first objective because the students will be able to identify the vowels on the pictures. In the next activities the teacher pronounces the name of objects that includes word that start with a vowel and then the students will imitate the teacher in pronouncing the words, and the vowel. The teacher will repeat the process until students will be able to familiarize the sounds and be able to pronounce them properly. This matches objective two because the students learned to correctly pronounce the sounds of the vowels. After students are familiar with the different sounds of the vowels, the teacher will introduce the writing, by giving the students ' material for tracing the vowels. In final activity the teacher will show the students how to write the vowel in the sand. This matches objective three because the teacher shows the students how to write all the vowels independently. There is one student with a 504 Plan due to ADHD and other medical issues, the other students each have learning disabilities specifically in reading. Lila is a second grade student who participated in a Primary Spelling Inventory and the reflection of her results are as follows. After her spelling inventory was finalized I noted that the student spelled ten of the twenty-six words correctly giving her a power score of 10/26. Most of the words that she mastered was in the Late emergent and early of Letter Name Alphabetic stage. I also noted that Lila accomplished 36 features out of 56 total features during her spelling inventory. Based on the results of the Primary Spelling Inventory the orthographic features that Lila recognizes are the consonants, short vowel, blends, and is familiar with diagraphs. Although she mastered blends which falls in the late Letter Name-Alphabetic stage she failed to master diagraphs which is the middle stage.
Phonemic Awareness and Alphabetic Principle in addition to Phonics and Decoding Skills provide students with early skills of understanding letters and words in order to build their reading and writing skills. Students will need to recognize how letters make a sound in order to form a word. While each word has a different meaning to be to format sentences. While reading strategies for Reading Assessment and Instruction, I was able to find three strategies for Phonemic Awareness and three strategies for Alphabetic Principles which will provide advantage for the student in my research and classroom settings.
Establishment consisted of teaching the children correct placement of articulators to produce the targeted speech sound across all word positions. The randomized-variable practice began once the child could produce the sound 80% of the time in certain syllables. It usually took children 1-5 sessions to complete the establishment phase. Random teaching tasks such as imitated single syllables, imitated single words, nonimitated single words, imitated two-to-four word phrases, nonimitated two-to-four word phrases, imitated sentences, nonimitated sentences, and storytelling or conversations were selected in the second phase. During my observation in Mrs. Herd’s class I taught a phonemic lesson to the students. The phonemic lesson I chose for Mrs. Herd’s class was rhyming. During this lesson I taught the students how to identify rhyming words and how to rhyme with the ending sound /at/. The students will benefit from this lesson by gaining the ability to recognize and generate rhyming words. The strategy I used for this lesson is called “The Hungry Thing”. In this strategy the teacher reads a book to the students called The Hungry Thing by Jan Slepian and Ann Seidler.
In the partial alphabetic phase individuals pay attention to different letters in a word in order to attempt its pronunciation, usually the first and final letters of a word are focused on, Ehri referred to this as ‘phonetic cue reading’. This is a skill which along with others which shows phonological awareness.
Phonological awareness is students understanding of sound awareness of being able to hear the sound as and continues stream know as phones. Children at a young age should be learning and understand the basic concepts of English has a streamline and be able to break down the sound components. As teachers, it is important to understand the most efficient and engaging of teaching to their students, reading and writing.
The five key elements are one, Phonemic Awareness. This is when a teacher helps children to learn how to manipulate sounds in our language and this helps children to learn how to read. Phonemic Awareness can help to improve a student’s reading, and spelling. With this type of training the effects on a child’s reading will last long after training is over. The second key is Phonics. Phonics has many positive benefits for children in elementary schools from kindergarten up to the sixth grade level. Phonics helps children who struggle with learning how to read by teaching them how to spell, comprehend what they are reading, and by showing them how to decode words. The third key is Vocabulary. Vocabulary is important when children are learning how to comprehend what they are reading. Showing children, the same vocabulary words by using repetition will help them to remember the words. The fourth key is comprehension. Comprehension is when a child’s understanding of comprehension is improved when teachers use different techniques such as generating questions, answering questions, and summarizing what they are
Phonetic awareness has been proven to aid in our students written and reading acquisition. I would also try to incorporate reading instruction using my student’s primary language. I would like to implement activities such as writing in journals and drawing pictures to illustrate what the students are writing about. In doing this, I hope my students can write and also illustrate the story they are trying to communicate to me. I would also like to read stories with my students and ask them to make predictive statements about the stories. I would also like to incorporate centers into my classroom that will help my students play in literacy-enriched areas. Examples of these centers would be places like a school, an office, a grocery store or a restaurant. While the students are not in my classroom, I will send home activities that include parental involvement. I would encourage parents to communicate with their students using their journals. They can write entries back and forth to each other to communicate. The student could even draw a secret message to their parents and have their parent try and figure out sentences that correlates to the picture. I would also like to send home storybooks for the parents to read to their children. These storybooks would come with an activity sheet that the student would need to complete. On the activity sheet I would ask students to draw

English language is about four stages: Old English, Middle English, Modern English, and Early Modern English. In each era, there is an affection of other tribe’s languages on English language. As an example, Germanic tribes who moved into Britain and have an impact on Old English language are (Angles, Saxons, and Jutes). In the same way, the effects of the tribes lead to have many changes in vowel system, which calls the Great Vowel Shift .In this paper, I will discuss the Great Vowel Shift and the the process of that huge change.
Consonant is a speech sound which is produced by a partial or a complete obstruction of the airflow by the constriction of the speech organs ( Ladefoged and Disner, 2012:201). The production of consonants involves bringing two of the speech organs close enough together to shut off or restrict the flow of air (Bennett, 1998: 7). Consonant sounds may be voiced or voiceless which are produced with an obstruction or occlusion at some points in the vocal tract, this obstruction of airflow could be complete or partial (Al-Hamad, 2002: 75 and Erwin, 2004:5). Consonant sounds are not produced or formed only if there is an occlusion in the flow of air or when there is a close articulation of two organs of speech or when they are fully pressed together to form the consonant sound (Ahmed, 2004:16).
In this course we study both phonetics and phonology. Phonetics to improve the way we should spell the sounds, and in order to spell the correct sounds we should learn how to listen accurately. It’s also known as the study of language which contains 44 sounds and 26 letters. Phonology is to study the rules for combining phonemes and what happened due to this combination. Phonetics contains consonant, vowels & diphthongs. It’s also used in language and linguistics rules that specify how the phonemes are organized into syllables, words, and sentences to
