The Family Reunion
T.S. Elliott's "The Family Reunion" is a play about the return to home, and the looking back at ghosts of the past. The play starts with Harry returning to his boyhood home for his mother's birthday. The plot centers around Harry's return, the mystery surrounding his wife's death, and his family's desire to have Harry take over the role as head of the household. It's an anticipated return, one that they all have been waiting for. There are concurrent plots threading through the work, such as the mystery involving his own father's death and disappearance, Harry's schizophrenia and Mary's return to the family as well as her inability to leave.
In Scene II of "The Family Reunion", Mary and Harry meet in the drawing room, waiting for the family dinner (reunion) to begin. Mary & Harry are second cousins, both growing up in Wishwood. Harry has returned after an absence of eight years, and mysterious death of his wife at sea. There's a recurring thread of "waiting" that runs through the play: waiting for Harry's return, waiting for dinner to begin, waiting for Harry's brothers to appear, waiting for the other guests. In waiting for Harry's return to Wishwood, everything in the house has been kept the way it was when he left. "I had only just noticed that this room is quite unchanged: The same hangings...the same pictures...even the table, the chairs, the sofa...all in the same positions. I was looking to see if anything was changed, but if it is so, I can't find it." The unchanged room symbolizes the Harry of his youth, and the person that Harry is hoping to find when he returns. It also symbolizes his family's inability to accept the fact that Harry has moved on. Their longing to keep life the same. In this scene Mary and Agatha have been waiting for Harry to appear for dinner. Agatha exits and Mary alone says, "Waiting, waiting, always waiting, I think this house means to keep us waiting."
Harry, returning from Wishwood after eight years discusses his longing to return back to his childhood home. (The home theme this semester.) His return to Wishwood is actually his need to make peace with his past, his loss of his father and the confines of his childhood. By returning to Wishwood he also is looking to escape his recent past, and his inability to live in the present.

It is important for an organization to analyze the appropriate economic factors and respond with the correct actions so that they may maintain a competitive advantage within their industry.
As the 1920’s began, the liberation of women by the introduction of new rights gave them newly found confidence to move to cities, become independent or live with other women, and experience life in a new way. This introduced the Flapper era, when women broke social normality’s and became less lady like. Without having to live by the rules, women could experiment more with makeup, dancing, and clothing, all ways of expressing themselves, as opposed to prior to the 1920’s when expectations of women’s appearances and behavior were high. This increasingly expressive woman became the cool girl. A woman who was “always utterly un-self-conscious and perfectly indifferent and unaware of anyone’s interest in her” and who allowed life to come easy was the cool, calm and collected girl most people would
It is a serious and quiet event. She sees the boys as "short men" gathering in the living room, not as children having fun. The children seem subdued to us, with "hands in pockets". It is almost as if they are waiting, as the readers are, for something of importance to take place.... ... middle of paper ...
To be able to have these virtues are main factors building into a just person and having a just city. “ But are we to say that justice is this thing, namely to speak the truth and to give back what one has taken from another? Or is is possible for actions of this very nature to be sometimes just and sometimes unjust?..” (Cahn, 2005, p. 33). More to justice is dealing with the nature of the environment that they are in. That is being able to justify how a just person who may see the good in things compared to unjust who will see the negative things dealing with
Lizzie, like Jekyll, has that conservative attitude and felt a need to abide by the rules that distinguish good from evil. Laura on the other hand had the lingering qualities that Hyde displayed, she wanted to have the freedom to do whatever she desired which led her down a dark path just like when Henry Jekyll drank his potion. Both Dr. Jekyll and Laura had the desire to want more, the difference is Jekyll could partake whenever he wanted until Hyde eventually started taking over. She however, was only able to eat the fruit once and it consumed her the first time, but was not able to hear the goblins again. Fortunately, Laura was redeemed by her sisters love for her, but Jekyll became consumed by Hyde and ended up dying in the
The short story “The Cask of Amontillado” by Edgar Allen Poe tells the story of Montresor seeking revenge on Fortunato. Montresor does not specify what is exactly said that makes him commit premeditated murder. He mentions that it was an insult that turned him towards revenge the moment he heard it. He becomes obsessed with punishing Fortunato. Poe uses elements of horror to illustrate Montresor’s obsession for revenge leading to the death.
The official definition of feminism, defined by the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, is “the belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities”. The issue with this definition is that it does not give an accurate view of the wide range of feminism. This definition is also not consistent throughout society. Dictionary.com, states that feminism is “the doctrine advocating social, political, and all other rights of women equal to those of men”. This is an issue. Even though these definitions are similar, how are we supposed to understand this if we do not have a consistent definition? This is a topic is becoming increasingly popular in the last few years. It has become at the top one percent of lookups on Merriam-Webster Dictionary.
In the beginning of the movie Madea’s Family Reunion by Tyler Perry, we start off with Lisa waking up with flower pedals leading up to a bath with professional violinist playing in the background. What seems to begin as a story of richness and happiness soon becomes the opposite.
Now to get to the Prisoner of Azkaban. Harry Potter is back for the summer at the Dursley’s home. The Dursley’s are his mothers sister, and that family detests Harry in every way possible. They keep him locked up in a cupboard in the basement, take his owl (used for delivering mail etc.) his wand, and his trunk of spell books and everything else he could use to do any bit of magic. Harry’s birthday again passes without being noticed by the Dursley’s, but Harry receives presents from Ron and Hermione and also Hagrid.
Her speech was very well organized composed of all the essential parts that make a speech good. Her presenting the content was also done very well. She held great eye contact with the audience throughout the entire presentation and her posture was also perfect. The slides that where in her power point were also very well put together in my opinion. The colors were appropriate for the topic; the blue and yellow coloring reminded me of a morning sky so I thought that fit the topic very well. There was a good amount of pictures of breakfast food and she didn’t put too much text on her slides, which made it better in my opinion because it did not take the audiences attention off of her. The small amount of text on the slides allowed her to just use it a cues for what she was going to say next and elaborate more about what was on the slides. Gianna’s speech really stood out to me for various reasons but the one that really stuck with me was the fact that it was a good topic that had relevancy to everyone that was listening to it. She had great energy throughout the speech that allowed her to keep the audiences attention and give a great
Global warming is a topic that is constantly disregarded because the issue seems to small and irrelevant. However, people do not realize that global warming is time sensitive. Over the last 30 years, there has been an average increase of 1.5 Fahrenheit per year. Global warming has significantly gotten worse often the past years and there seems to be little to no action to prevent global warming. Through the increase in carbon dioxide levels and deforestation, it is evident that global warming is affecting us dramatically, suggesting that if we do not take action soon, we will be unable to live in such living conditions.
There are four different learning modes. The first is Concrete Experience (learning from experience). The second is Reflective Observation (thinking before doing).
