Romeo and Juliet - Failure of Society
The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet is not in the death of two young lovers, but the failure of society to overcome the social barriers that would have prevented the loss of so many innocent lives. Lord Capulet followed his social role of the father, and felt it was his duty as the man of the house to protect his family and their reputation. His wife, Lady Capulet, took it as her role to sit back and obey her husband, even if in the end it would mean the death of her only daughter. Friar Lawrence's role as a peacemaker lead him to see Romeo and Juliet's relationship and marriage as an opportunity to stop the family feuding than as two people.
Lord Capulet's idea if his own role in society leads him to be part of the cause of Juliet's death. Since the father of the house was supposed to protect not only the safety, but the pride of his family, he looked past the pain of his own daughter to fulfill this duty. He believed that Paris would be the right, and suitable bride for Juliet, and would bring riches and dignity to his family. As he told Juliet of this, she reacted in an angry and distasteful way since she loved Romeo, but he only saw her refusing to obey him and the chance that shame would be brought fourth onto his family. Lord Capulet didn't even let her tell why she did not want to marry Paris, but believed it was his social duty to either have her marry him, or marry nobody. Also, his social order was brought upon him as he fought with the Montagues, and promoted the feud between the two families to the kids. Lord Capulet was socially pressured to continue this age old feud because it had been going on for so long. Because of this, Romeo and Juliet felt they could not be known to be married, which eventually lead to each of their deaths.
Although Lady Capulet may have objected to the marring of Juliet with Paris, it was not her role to disobey her husband. Sadly, this move of loyalty cost her daughter her life.

Juliet is not ready to get married, but Lady Capulet is pushing it on her(“DBQ: Romeo and Juliet: Who’s to Blame”. Doc. B). When she finds Romeo she loves him and want to get married. She may have fought Romeo because of how hard Lady Capulet is pushing her to get married. In document D Lady Capulet is also to blame. In this document Juliet saying that she does not love Paris, but Lady Capulet and Capulet think otherwise. They are pushing her to married to Paris. This could have affected the way that the story ends with them(“DBQ: Romeo and Juliet: Who’s to Blame”. Doc.
Lady Capulet is very materialistic and she wants Juliet to gain wealth and status by marrying Paris ‘’Share all that he doth possess’’. In addition, because she got married at a young age, therefore she thinks it’s right for Juliet to be married at a young age ‘’I was likely your mother at just about your age’’. Moreover, she constantly urges Juliet to marry Paris without any sense of consideration for Juliet’s opinions or feelings, about the alliance of the marriage. Furthermore, this illustrates her cold attitude towards love and marriage as she only talks about Paris Social position and wealth.

In William Shakespeare's “Romeo And Juliet” Romeo is the main character. He is Montague's son. Which means he is the son of his loves enemy, the Capulets. Romeo is very depressed, he is very negative, impulsive, anxious, emotional, and he is a rebel. Romeo is stupid if he would have taken it slow and not rushed things with Juliet they might still be alive. Due to Romeo and Juliet's mad love for eachother, and their families hatred towards each other they died.
First, society’s absurd focus on honor and disgrace is culpable for the continuation of the Capulet and Montague families’ “ancient grudge”, which forces Romeo and Juliet to sneak around this to be together, following a precarious plan that ends in their deaths. (Prologue 3) Society’s unreasonable obsession with dignity threatens to disgrace either foe who steps down as cowardly and gutless, so that the two families, who cannot even remember the reason of their inane feud, are burdened to continue fighting or face absolute social humiliation. If this fixation was eradicated, the two foes would have made peace years before, and most importantly, Romeo and Juliet’s lives would be spared, since their families’ harmony would render their risky plan unnecessary. Is the senseless death of innocent young people worth ephemeral glory? Society obviously thinks so, and plants these toxic doctrines into its people’s minds, creating a vicious cycle of unnecess...
Lady and Lord Montague did not seem to pay much attention to Romeo and did not help him when he wa upset. Lady and Lord Capulet were horrible to Juliet. They only wanted her to marry Paris and use her for their gain. When she said that she did not want to marry him they proceeded to tell her to kill herself and that she was nothing to them. This is not how a parent should act towards their child. Her parents treatment made her try to find another way to get out of the marriage, which was faking her death. By faking her death because of her parents, she caused Romeo to kill himself and her to also. Friar Lawrence, a father figure to Romeo and advice giver to Juliet, could have prevented many of the factors that led to the outcome. The biggest action he could have taken was to have a better plan to get Juliet to be with Romeo after he was exiled. Juliet’s family was going to disown her if she did not marry Paris, so she could have just left. Instead of using an elaborate plan that could go wrong in so many ways, she could have easily went with Romeo to live in Mantua. Friar Lawrence also could have made the responsible decision to watch over them better. He married a thirteen year old and a sixteen year old from rival

Walton was smart about the way he grew his business. Instead of trying to expand all over the country he chose to “saturate a market area, then fill it in” (Walton 110). By not expanding too large too fast, Walton was able to grow his company and control areas of the market, but would still be able to effectively distribute all of his goods to stores due to the close proximity of each one. He made sure that his policies of famous low prices and always putting the customer first remained in tact. All throughout his journey and success Walton still made it a priority to spend time with his family. He even made each one of his children partners in the company, who still own lots of stock today. Although Walmart started out small, Walton’s drive, morals, and creative discount methods and good ideas allowed it to grow into the huge company everyone knows today. Walmart’s profits are so large that at one point Sam Walton was one of the richest men in the entire world, but that didn't go to his head one bit. He is a simple guy that has always been modest in the way he lives. He still drove an old pickup truck with his dogs in the back and loved to hunt and be
Juliet’s family, the Capulet’s wanted Juliet to marry a charming man named Paris. They thought that he was a very nice man but they wanted him to marry her when she was finally old enough to get married because she was only 13. After a while though her parents were really wanting her to marry Paris she wouldn’t marry him though and her dad had told her if she did not marry him he would disown her. “But, an you will not wed, I’ll pardon you. Graze where you will, you shall not house with me. Look to’t, think on’t; I do not use to jest. Thursday is near; lay hand on heart, advise: An you be mine. I’ll give you to my friend; An you be not, hand, beg, starve, die in the streets” (3.4 215-220). Second of all her parents and Romeo’s parents and family did not like each other at all, there was no way her parents would approve of her being married to Romeo. In the end her parents are a big part of her death because if they wouldn’t have wanted her and Paris marrying each other she could have just secretly been married to Romeo without them knowing, or pressuring her to marry another person.
Although Capulet wanted the best for Juliet, he didn't give a thought on how she felt and had forced her to marry Paris which had caused problems that led to her tragic end. She didn't want to marry someone who she did not love and wanted to escape this marriage. Her method of escape was death. Capulet's controlling actions appeared as early as Act I Scene 2, when he was arranging Juliet's marriage to Paris without her consent. Paris wondered if Juliet would like him and Capulet responded with, "Of my child's love: I think she will be ruled. In all respects by me; nay, more, I doubt it not." (IV, 3, ln. 13-14). stating that he doesn't just think Juliet will like him but that he knows she will like him. When Juliet refuses to marry Paris, he shouted, "To go with Paris to Saint Peter's Church, Or I will drag thee on a hurdle thither." (V, 3, ln. 154-155). making her agree to go to the church. Although she did agree to go, her thought of, "I'll to the friar, to know his remedy; If all else fail, myself have power to die." (V, 3, ln. 241-242). showed that she did not plan on marrying Paris and that she would die first. Juliet's arrangement to Paris had brought her death because it had resulted in the potion plan which had caused Romeo and Juliet to die. If Capulet had never forced Juliet to marry Paris, she would have been living happily with Romeo.

Throughout the scene, we are given the impression that Capulet is kind-hearted, because he wants his daughter to marry for love and wants Paris to ‘woo her’ and work hard to ‘get her heart’, although we are still aware of his power to force Juliet into a marriage if necessary.... ... middle of paper ... ... Lord Capulet takes it for granted that his daughter will do what he tells her, saying ‘I will make a desperate tender / Of my child’s love’, taking responsibility away from Juliet and perhaps suggesting that she can’t decide for herself. Juliet’s parents appear understanding of her grief at first, but then plan the wedding in only 3 days, not giving her time to grieve.
