I am a rather elderly man. Of the two I was the most reasonable one. We were always very different; we have been ever since we were born. Our characters were the only thing by which people could tell us apart. I was the more quiet and helpful one; I did a lot of community service, and was always there for other people. He was always finding a way to get what he wanted, no matter what. Maybe that is what finally really did it. We grew up in a little town in Oregon. Our family had never been close, and our parents let us free at a very young age. The only similar characteristic we ever had was growing up before the other boys in our class. I never really cared for my future, not that I didn't want to succeed in life, but success had a very different meaning to me. My view of success was being able to help others, and change the world. I never gave for politics; it's just a lot of talking, but never really any doing. I was a straight A student and graduated high school without any difficulties. After high school, I went to Harvard, where I studied economics of the third world. The feeling I had always had about wanting to help just grew stronger and stronger during my time there. A couple of good friends I met at school and I wanted to stop talking and take action. After finishing our study, we decided to go to South America, where we set up local schools and together with different doctors and organisations we also set up little hospitals and educated people in medicines. It was great to see these people and their habits change for their own benefit. I really felt like I had made a difference. As for my family: my parents wanted me to come home and find a "real job", like him. He was always my father's favourite and thus also my mother's. He was everything they wanted: a good athlete, he studied
I yelled at them, ignored them, and occasionally did the opposite they told me too. At the time, I thought that made me better than them, but in the end, it got me nowhere. Soon I entered high school and my bratty preteen-self calmed down. However, my parents became stricter on my grades because there was a big milestone that would be coming up in a few years, getting accepted into college. My parents made it very clear that if I did not get a large scholarship to any university, I would have to go to the local community college. That was the last thing I wanted to happen, I wanted out of the house. I now had a strong incentive to do well in school. I wanted to be able to go out on my own and escape their tight grasp on me. I completed year after year, always making “A’s” in my classes. I soon climbed to the top of my school’s ranking system and was at the top of my class. Though, this did not matter to me, I wanted out of my house. At this point, I knew I was not disappointing my parents, they were as proud as can be with a daughter at the top of her class. This was the first time in my life that I felt as if my parents were generally proud of me and my accomplishments. I still however, felt guilty. Even though I was doing it for myself, I felt bad that I wanted to escape my parents. I did not hate them, I just could not stand being under their control
The Hero Twins, Hunahpu and Xbalanque, had heard what happened to the Four Hundred Boys and decided to exact revenge upon Zipacna for their deaths. This was also part of the Hero Twins goal to bring down the arrogant gods of the Maya. The twins devised an elaborate plan in which to trick and trap Zipacna. They fabricated an elaborate faux crab and then concealed it deep within a canyon.
Of the millions of people who lived in camps during the Holocaust, there were about two thousand twins who were experimented on. They were the pride of a German man who worked at Auschwitz from 1943-1945. His name was Dr. Josef Mengele. He was researching human genetics and diseases. He liked this one certain group more than he liked the rest though. He would always handpick them out so he could do research on them and their family history. Being a twin in Auschwitz was worse that working in a camp, because they were separated from their families, experimented on, and brutally murdered.
As I walk through the crowded mall with my sister, little children stare, most adults do a discreet double take, and some bold adults question us outright. “Wow, are you twins?” “Do you know you look the same?” “What’s it like to be a twin?” “Do you have, like, psychic powers, or something with each other?” These are the most common questions twins hear. Almost all twins don’t really mind them and sometimes the attention is cool. Mostly, we just smile tolerantly at each other and answer them as best we can. After all, we don’t really know how to describe being a twin. We have never known anything else. Nonetheless, here we are. So, as a person who might not know exactly what she is talking about, I will try to briefly explanation to the general public the experience of being a genetic quirk.
What would it be like to have a twin? This is a question people often ponder. People often say that they see someone that resembles someone they already know. It is almost like dejavu. “Twin” comes from the German word “twine” meaning “two together” (Nagy 1). Most people automatically think of two people who look just alike when they hear the word “twin”. However, there is a lot more to twins than just looking alike. Twins are the most common type of multiple births. Many think there are only two types of twins, identical and fraternal; they often leave out conjoined twins. Twins are very unique and fascinating individuals because of their similarities biologically, physically, and psychologically.
In Both Grendel and Beowulf, there is conflict. The conflict is betwixt the themes of light and dark, Paganism vs. Christianity, and Man vs. Beast. Grendel, the main character in Grendel and the secondary character in Beowulf, faces external battles but the most important battle take place internally. John Gardener recognized the basis for Grendel’s predicament which is “his [Grendel] stubborn cling to skepticism and cold, hard reason. . .” (Grendel’s Geis). Though there are many different themes present in both stories, there is one theme that remains consistent throughout out both. This theme is the lack of acceptance. Grendel’s in-acceptance is rooted in his lack of understanding of the world and its functions. As a result of the many things that have taken place in Grendel’s life, he is perceived as evil yet, not because he wants to be. He is misunderstood and not accepted. Much of Grendel’s evil wrongdoing comes as a result of lack of acceptance, lack of communication, and his ignorance.
Cloning can be a natural process, it is not always man made. In humans, identical twins are an example of how clones do not always start off in a test tube. Human clones in the form of identical twins are commonplace, with their cloning occurring during a natural process of reproduction. Although genes are recognised as influencing behaviour and understanding, genetically identical doesn’t mean altogether identical. Identical twins, regardless of being natural human clones with identical DNA, are separate people, with separate personalities and experiences. The relationship between an original and a clone is much like that between identical twins raised separately; they share the same DNA, but little of the same environment. This research will explore the science of twins, epigenetics and the fight to improve lives and combat disease.
There are more twin babies conceived now than there used to be since the eighties. “One in every 30 babies born in 2009 was a twin (a 76 percent hike since 1980),” (Goldman, L. Web source). Twins are born in different varieties. They can be fraternal or they can be identical. Identical twins can be either both brothers or they can be both sisters. If they are sister and brother they are said to be fraternal.

Imagine having a sibling, waking up with you every morning to find your sibling didn’t go anywhere, but was by your side. Imagine having to do the same things, for instance, riding on the same bike or sitting in the same chair. How do you think life would be like? Would you be able to have any freedom? Do you sometimes feel like you want to disconnect from your sibling? Well, such people are called “conjoined twins”. Conjoined twins share arms, legs, organs, and other body parts. However, they don’t just share these body parts. Instead, they share and take intimacy to the extreme. Back then, they were called gods and feared as monsters. People were afraid they might kill or abandon their kids”. Conjoined twins are formed in the last stage of mitosis, which is called Cytokinesis. Many cases have been documented about conjoined twins. One example is a case of two conjoined twin sisters’ named Mary and Eliza Chulkhurst. The world’s most known twins are called the Thoracagopagus twins. In order to

I took a long, hard look at the people around me and figured out what their good attributes were and why they were significant in my life. When I figured out who they were as people and what they could give as a friend, versus what I needed as a friend, I made my decision. It wasn’t a decision that was said out loud or one that was publicized. I just directed my energy towards the people who needed my friendship in return for the friendship they had shown me. When I realized who was a true friend and who was not, it hurt. There was a lot of pain, knowing somebody didn’t care as much about me and my well=being as I had wanted them to. It wasn’t until later, that I realized they could still be in my life, just not as much involved it as they once
