The Eucharist
The Orthodox Eucharist Service
The Holy Eucharist is the oldest experience of Christian Worship as
well as the most distinctive. Eucharist comes from the Greek word
which means "thanksgiving." The word describes the most important form
of the Church's attitude toward all of life. The origin of the
Eucharist is traced to the Last Supper at which Christ instructed His
disciples to offer bread and wine in His memory. The Eucharist is the
most distinctive event of Orthodox worship because in it the Church
gathers to remember and celebrate the Life, Death, and Resurrection of
Christ.
Before the Orthodox Eucharist service can take place, they believe
that you must prepare yourself for "holy communion" because they
believe it helps them to acquire the right attitude toward the
Sacrament. St. Paul writes, "Let a man examine himself and so eat of
that Bread and drink of that Cup" (1 Cor. 11:28). There are five
stages:
1. Self-examination - It is believed that this should be done
regularly by Christians in following God's path and is done to raise
awareness and lead to improvement, it is especially important when
approaching the chalice to receive communion.
2. Abstinence - On the morning of communion you should not eat or
drink anything because The Church Fathers emphasized that true fasting
is to abstain from sin and evil.
3. Prayers - Prayers that are designed to be read before and after
Communion should be read so that you can be in the proper attitude for
the reception of Communion.
4. Repentance - You should approach Jesus with a plea for mercy and
forgiveness because it is only faith and repentan...

music like brining in electric guitars to church and this I believe is
defiantly important to make kids more participant in church today.
On the other side of the story we come to pray for the very reason
that is in the prayer. "We have come together in the name of Christ to
offer our praise and thanksgiving to hear and receive Gods word to
pray for the needs of the world and to seek the forgiveness of our
sins, that by the power of the holy spirit we may give ourselves to
the service of God". In this prayer it shows that we come to prayer
for the needs of others as well as ourselves. So we should be thinking
of others and not worry about being bored.

Analysis of a Major Sacramental Prayer - Option 1: Blessing and Invocation of God over Baptismal Water (Rite of Baptism for One Child)
J.R.R. Tolkien's use of waybread takes on the properties of the Catholic Eucharist in The Lord of the Rings. He creates lembas, a special kind of dried bread and made it the primary food source for the main characters. This special food is, in certain ways, a type of Eucharist, as defined by the Catholic church. Specifically, the parralells can be found in the outward similarities and the surrounding effects.
fellowship, he replies by saying, " And when we stand before God, and you are
In his work Torture and Eucharist, William Cavanaugh traces the Catholic Church’s responses to the use of state-sanctioned torture by the mid-twentieth century Pinochet regime in Chile. In doing so, Cavanaugh confronts various ecclesiologies concerning church-state relations and the Church’s role within civil society, lending theological support to a Eucharistic ecclesiology in the process. However, Cavanaugh is highly critical of ecclesiologies that make a distinction between the political and social planes, such as Jacque Maritain’s New Christendom model. Cavanaugh argues that by exclusively circumscribing the Church within the social, or spiritual, realm, such ecclesiologies facilitate the Church’s disappearance as a societal body and strip
Being catholic since I was born, I know a lot of the history and traditions of the Catholic Church. I took part in a program called Religious Education at my church from 1st grade to 8th grade and performing my First Communion and Confirmation. I am going to tell a little about each religions tradition behind Communion and how it is done. Then I am going to compare and contrast Communion of the Catholic Church and the Methodist Church. The Communion rituals are similar in how it is performed, but there are a few significant differences.
Coming close to God through prayer soon became very important because everyone feared his wrath. It was said:
From the beginning of the establishment of the Christian church there have always been controversies about how the organization has been run. The Da Vinci code and The Secret Supper deal with an alternative interpretation of early Christianity and the gospels, far different from that of the orthodox Catholic Church, both novels also deal with mysteries behind some of Leonardo Da Vinci’s most famous paintings.
The African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church recognizes two sacraments only. They are the Sacrament of Baptism and The Lord’s Supper. “Sacraments, ordained of Christ, are not only badges or tokens of Christian men’s profession, but rather they are certain signs of grace and God’s good will toward us, by . . . invisibly in us, and . . . quicken, but also . . . confirm, our faith in, Him.” Baptism is not only a flag of declaration and stamp of separation by which Christians

The Jewish tradition of the Passover has been very important for the welfare and freedom of the Jews since the Old Testament. Each part of the Passover brings forth the knowledge of what God promises to his people. “The name “Passover” is derived from the Hebrew word Pesach which is based on the root “pass over” and refers to the fact that G-d “passed over” the houses of the Jews when he was slaying the firstborn of Egypt during the last of the ten plagues.” The Christian belief is that the Last Supper fulfills the promise made to the Jews through Jesus Christ. The Passover and the Last Supper are important in understanding the relationship between the Jewish belief and Christian belief. They are also important to help grasp what it means to be free with a God.
The Resurrection of Jesus Christ. No other event in history has been the object of as much scrutiny and criticism as the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The resurrection of Christ is the basis upon which all Christianity stands. If the resurrection never happened, then there would be no Christianity, as the Apostle Paul says in 1 Corinthians 15:14, "And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith." This is why opponents of the Christian faith have tried to attempt to discredit the Biblical account of the resurrection. Of the many theories of the resurrection, the Biblical account is the only historically reliable and possible explanation of the resurrection.
Roman Catholics believe that through the sacrament of confession the Lord will forgive the sins that they have committed. The Priest acts as an intercessor for Christ; he hears the sins that the Catholic has committed then with the power he receives from Jesus is able to forgive the sins (catholic.org). This works when the Priest gives absolution to the repenting soul, the Catholic must truly be sorry for the sins he has committed otherwise Christ will not forgive them (jesuschristsavior.net). The Priest then makes the sign of the cross with the candidate saying, “I absolve you from your sins, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit” (jesuschristsavior.net). The Priest will then give a penance to the candidate. The Penance is usually some type of prayer, fasting, or nice act to another person to truly show that you feel sorrow for the sins committed
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." This verse - John 3:16 - is perhaps the most important in the Bible. Jesus Christ was the son of God, but he was also the son of man.
Introduction In the Christian faith there are many beliefs and acts for the baptized Catholic to follow, such acts consist of the sacraments, for which there are seven. Many people believe that of all the Sacraments, the Sacrament of Reconciliation is one of the most complex and difficult to understand. Those who approach the Sacrament, are able to obtain pardon from God for the offenses committed against him, this enables them to be reconciled with the Church, which they wounded by their sins. The Catechism of the Catholic Church states that it is called the Sacrament of Reconciliation because it “imparts to the sinner the life of God who reconciles.”
