Suspense is the feeling of what will happen next in the story to get the adrenaline pumping. The thrill of being scared sometimes helps audiences over the funny parts of the movie. The thrill of jump scares. Sometimes people watch scary movies for fun. Another reason to watch suspenseful movies is that suspense in movies can raise tension and/or lower tension. Suspense is most effective when it is used in a main or eventful part of a story. A way that suspense was used was in Jurassic Park when the T-Rex was fighting all the kids in the car. To build suspense there is one way for example reversal like in Jurassic Park when the T-Rex saves the characters from the velociraptors. For example, in the movie Jurassic Park the family was being chased by the velociraptors and the big bad T-Rex saved the characters. Another reversal is when the man leaves the kids in the car and goes to the bathroom, but then gets eaten himself. As he said “ hhhh no, no ahh.”, as well as “ oh Jesus, oh Jesus( then went to the bathroom)”. One way that the movie showed suspense was the framing of what it was going to show, like only showing the eye of the Raptor (it’s the thrill of the fight rising up to the challenge of our rival). Unlike tone, mood is how suspense makes you feel about the the problem at hand.
