The phrase, “listen to your mother,” may have psychedelic implications for kids. Is your mother’s voice like tripping on LSD or magic mushrooms? A new study has found some odd responses to the motherly tone. Making the brain way more amazing than the iPhone 7 or self-driving car. Plus an unintended LSD or mushroom tea trip is always fun. So how does this brain physiology work? Surely your mother’s voice doesn’t actually cause a psychedelic trip. According to the study, it does cause some mental images to appear. And there is a boost in circuitry, for lack of a better medical term.

A recent study out of Stanford University has found that children can recognize the voice of their mother in less than a second. What happens physiologically after that may have some of the same neurological processes as LSD or a magic mushroom. Just not as many bright colors and symphonic notes floating across the sky. The study examined 24 healthy kids between the ages of 7 and 12. It aimed to find out how the child’s brain organizes itself once stimulated by the voice of the mother. To no one’s surprise, the children involved in the study recognized their mother’s voice 97 percent of the time.

As the Beatnik, Hippie, and psychedelic movements grew increasing amounts of national attention, the influence of drugs on culture could no longer be ignored by the mainstream. In an age where once-prolific drugs like marijuana and cocaine had become prohibited and sensationalized, the renewed influence of drugs both old and new sent shockwaves through the culture base. The instinctual response of the non-drug-using majority was to simply write drug-influenced art off as little more than the ramblings of madmen. Some drug-influenced artists tried to ignore this preconception, and others tried to downplay their drug use in the face of negative public scrutiny. For some drug-influenced artists, however, it was imperative to gain popular acceptance by publicly challenging the perception and preconceptions of mainstream America.

These researchers aimed to question whether the mother's postpartum depression/anxiety disorders had an effect on their relationship with their child and if it affected their child's understanding of facial emotions at preschool age. They predicted that children of postpartum depressed and/or anxious mothers would show lower performance on both facial processing than children of control mothers,however it had no relation. In the study, researchers gathered the mothers and tested them for any anxiety or depression disorders. Years later the mothers were gathered again when their children were preschool age,and the children were evaluated for any FEE processing skills. They used “The Eyes Test” by Baron Cohen and other testing such as SETK 3-5, SCID-1, and FEE processing. The sample was not representative , in conclusion that their were only 32 women in the experimental group and 29 in the control, therefore it could not accurate for a whole population. The research have them some insight, however there was no correlation between the evidence. Some of the variables that had a play in the research were whether the mother had schizophrenia or had any past psychiatric diagnosis or therapy, at least 18 years of age, and had to speak german, and that most of the children were boys. Scientist has proven that humans have responded to music ever since birth. Elena Mannes, a brain scientist, has recorded the relationship with music throughout a human’s lifetime. Mannes even went far enough to say that the cries of babies just a few weeks old were discovered to have some intervals common to western music. She also states that scientists believe music stimulates more parts of the brain than any other human function. With this knowledge, she sees that music has so much potential when it comes to affecting the brain and how it works.One main area of the brain music can have a real effect on is neurological deficits (Mannes INT). For example, if a patient who just had a stroke occur and lost verbal functions, those functions can be stimulated by music. This is known as melodic intonation therapy and it could help patients regain speech. The human brain is split into two parts, the left and right hemisphere.
