Did you know that in 2011 there were more than 6 million tobacco caused deaths worldwide (Henningfield)? Smoking is the act of inhaling and exhaling the fumes of burning plant material. Because there is nicotine in cigarettes, they are highly addictive. Cigarettes are one of the worlds most devastating causes of death and disease (Henningfield). There are many negative effects from secondhand smoking, both immediately and over time. Smoking also affects the environment indoors negatively. Also, when pregnant woman or parents of young children smoke, they could harm their children. People should not smoke with others around because they are exposed to harmful chemicals and they are not the one putting themselves in danger.
There are many negative effects on second hand smokers, immediately and over time. Second hand smokers take in nicotine and toxic chemicals through the same route as smokers, only they don't have a filter. The more that smokers take in toxic chemicals, the more likely they are to take the harmful chemicals into their body (“Secondhand Smoke”). So by smoking with others around you are the cause of many problems that they may have throughout their life. Second hand smoke immediately affects the heart, blood vessels and blood circulation in a harmful way (“Secondhand Smoke”), it puts nicotine in their bloodstream and could cause them to become addicted to cigarettes even before they ever even smoked. Over time, heart disease, strokes, and heart attacks can occur. Some people also get lung cancer or other types of cancer (“Secondhand Smoke”). By smoking with others around, you could end up eventually killing people without even trying. Not only is smoking bad for our bodies, it is also bad for the environment.

...smokers. Smokers expose people to harmful chemicals and toxins that should be avoided if at all possible. Secondhand smokers can be adults or children, but on average, there are more children exposed to secondhand smoke than non-smoking adults (“Secondhand Smoke”). The effects that smoking and secondhand smoke has on people is shocking and terrible, but it could all be avoided or less common if simply people stopped smoking or if they were more careful to smoke away from others. People should not smoke with others around because they expose them to harmful chemicals and they are not the one who is putting themselves in danger.

According to the Partnership for a Drug-Free America, it stated that the nicotine in smoking cigarettes can be very dangerous, damaging to the human body. It’s known that smoking can cause chronic lung disease, coronary heart disease and stroke. In addition, smoking also causes cancer of the lungs, larynx, esophagus, mouth, and bladder. Smoking tobacco products is also known to contribute to cancer of cervix, pancreas and kidneys. People that don’t smoke tobacco products can also be harmed by second hand smoke. Women who smoke while pregnant, put their baby at risk of have health problems.
Imagine being blamed for something you didn't do. It is irritating right? Well secondhand smoking is the same concept. Inhaling secondhand smoke is becoming just as dangerous as being the person who picks up the cigarette. Anually, secondhand smoking kills over 36,000 people from lung cancer and heart disease. It can cause ear infections, pneumonia, asthma attacks, and respitory infections in young children and babies. Second hand smoke contains the same chemicals that are inside a cigarette, therefore, it's as if the person just inhaling the smoke is smoking their own cigarette. Today, laws have been put in place to prevent nonsmokers from being exposed to secondhand smoke. For example, it is no longer aloud for people to smoke in public
Every year cigarette smoking is responsible for 500,000 premature deaths (Nugel), you do not want to be just another statistic, do you? America’s first cash crop was tobacco. That means that tobacco has been around for a really long time. It was not until 1865, though, that cigarettes were sold commercially. They were sold to soldiers at the end of the Civil War (Dowshen). From then, cigarettes spread like wildfire, and it was not until 1964 that anyone made a stand about the negative effects of tobacco and cigarettes. People start smoking for all different reasons, some to fit in and some to “escape”. Regardless, it is a horrible habit. 3900 children will try their first cigarette today. Amongst adults who currently smoke, 68% of them began at age 18 or younger, and 85% at 21 or younger (American Lung Association). And of all those people, 70% say if they were given another chance they would never have picked up that first cigarette (Tobacco Free Maine). Smoking is responsible for 1 and 5 deaths in the united states, and is the number one preventable cause of death (NLH). Smoking burns and there is no doubt about that, but before one picks up that cigarette, understand the negative effects on not only oneself, but others affected by ones poor choices, like second-hand smoke. Because of smoking cigarettes, many types of cancer, decrease of life quality, and negative health effects have become all too common in the world today.
“Secondhand smoke is the combination of smoke from the burning end of a cigarette and the smoke exhaled by smokers. You can be exposed to secondhand smoke in homes, cars, the workplace, and public places, such as bars, restaurants, and recreational settings (Secondhand Smoke).” Secondhand smoke isn’t just annoying and irritating but also it is a major health risk, for example just breathing in secondhand smoke has over 7,000 chemicals and roughly 70 of them are harmful. Just secondhand smoke alone kills over 49,000 adults every year; also causes around 3,000 cases of lung cancer. Non-smokers don’t really have a choice when it comes to someone smoking around them. They either have to deal with it or politely ask them to not smoke around
Imagine a room full of young, healthy second-graders with a Joe Camel cigarette in their hand, smoking; that is basically what secondhand smoking is like. It has toxic and carcinogenic effects that are practically the same as smoking a cigarette. Children from birth to 2 years of age are especially vulnerable to secondhand smoke because their lungs are not fully developed.
The article “Health Effects of Secondhand Smoke” and the video “Secondhand smoke: Triumphs and tragedies”, both attempt to educate viewers on the effects of secondhand smoke as people go about their daily lives. “Health effects of secondhand smoke” states the little known negative health effects of exposure, and “Second Hand Smoke: Triumphs and Tragedies” tells stories of lives lost and improvements made in the realm of protecting the population from the dangers of secondhand smoke. For example, The City of El Paso banned all smoking in restaurants, with no effect to local businesses or the economy, the only change following the enactment of this law was cleaner air for all.
Cigarette smoking is very harmful for both smoker, non- smokers and the environment. People who smoke in just show how inconsiderate they are towards others. Even the people who do not smoke in public places are selfish. They do not consider the affect smoking might have on them and how that will affect their family and the environment. Cigarettes cause hundreds of thousands of unnecessary deaths each year and that is why cigarettes need to be made illegal.
Every year, there are over 400,000 smoking-related deaths in the United States. A large percentage of these are due to lung cancer, whose leading cause is smoking. However, not all deaths are smokers themselves. Anyone in the vicinity can fall victim to second hand smoke. These people, through no action of their own, can have their lives threatened.
Smoking can negatively affect your system in just a few days, and over time, smokers rarely think about the greater dangers, such as lung cancer, skin cancer, and birth defects. Although I don't smoke, I am still aware of these dangers and try to keep myself away from situations where I am surrounded by smoke. The majority of people don't know that breathing in second-hand smoke is actually worse than smoking a cigarette. People who are constantly surrounded by smokers in places such as bars and restaurants are affected by the smoke they breathe in. While people assume that inhaling smoke straight from the cigarette is worse than secondhand smoke, they forget that the smoker has a filter that holds back some of the toxins that people around them can easily breathe in.
has been found that second-hand smoke from cigarettes causes much harm. to non-smokers. Now after years of study, it is known that in America, Someone is more likely to die from second-hand smoke than from a car. gun or AID's. Cigarette smoke causes cancer, heart disease and it.
The damage that can be done in the inside of the body will last with the person throughout their lifetime. It blackens the lungs and causes lung cancer. Secondhand smoke can also lead to heart disease. Researchers have found that some deaths result in ischemic heart disease. “Nevertheless, this is likely and underestimate” (Wendy Max), told LiveScience. Studies show that people have a greater risk of lung cancer as opposed to heart disease. Secondhand smoke plays a role in our personal hygiene. It can lead to smells within our body, clothes, and hair. Smoking and secondhand smoke can cause us to age faster. Scientists out of the state of Oregon have also took note on how secondhand smoke can build up a compound that affects our blood and urine. “There is experimental evidence from nonsmokers studies where you put nonsmokers in a room, blow smoke into the room, and measure their artery function, that you see the platelets get sticky, which can cause clots and lead to a heart attack, and the ability of the arteries to dilate decreases very rapidly”, says Dr. Matthew McKenna. This cannot only harm our blood but also harm urine within the body. “Some people may say they’re not exposed to secondhand smoke, but they forget about the smokey bus ride they took in the morning or when they walked through the park and someone was smoking near them.” (Max). This compound
My first thought about cigarettes is, they are very harmful to the body and to others. As you look around at all those who smoke, they don 't care who they smoke around. Second hand smoke is just as harmful as smoking is. There are serious dangers out there that are killing people. We should be aware of these dangers and know how it can affects others as well. This is who smoking is bad for anyone because of the harmful dangers.
Although it is beneficial for the economy for the production of tobacco products, it is extremely risky to use the product. According to researchers, second-hand smoke is terrible for everyone in the world who walks by someone who is exhaling. In the article by Robert Proctor “Why ban the sale of cigarettes? The case for abolition” states that cigarettes are the “most deadly object in the history of human civilization”.... ...
Scientists and health officials have been arguing the detrimental effects smoking has on our health for many years. Smoking can lead to serious complications including asthma, pancreas, lung and stomach cancer due to the large number of carcinogens (cancer causing chemicals) and other various substances added to it. It is a health hazard for both smokers and non-smokers and it is especially harmful to unborn babies. Although smokers claim that it helps them to relax and release stress, the negative aspects of the habit take over the positive. As it has been stressed by the scientists and experts, there are some very severe reasons of smoking but its crucial consequences should also be taken into consideration.
