Mental and physical effects of marijuana
Don’t take our word for it - see why 10 million students trust us with their essay needs.
To many, marijuana is seen as a horrible narcotic that causes many physical and social problems. To others, it's a harmless drug that gives the body a relaxing sensation. Marijuana can be found on many college campuses and high schools. It is estimated that at least 70 million Americans have tried it, and of those people, 10-14% become dependent of the drug (1). Marijuana is often referred to as the "gateway" drug, leading the user to more serious narcotics. Marijuana users experience different sensations, from excessive mellowness, fuzzy memory, to the munchies. Some of the typical effects are impairment of memory, alteration of memory, motor coordination, posture, cognitive ability, and sensory perception. So what is it in marijuana that keeps users wanting more?
The active ingredient in marijuana is delta-9-trans-tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC. The structure of THC is very similar to the endogenous cannabinoids, or endocannabinoids for short, which are naturally occurring chemicals in the body (1).The THC binds to the receptors of the endocannabinoids, and activates the neurons, causing the different sensations experienced during a high. These receptors are spread throughout the brain. THC affects the central nervous system, as well as the peripheral tissue systems. THC can reduce pain, lower body temperature, and enhance appetite. It can also be used for anti-inflammatory, bronchodilatory, and anti-convulsant, which is why THC is used for medicinal purposes. THC is used as a popular treatment for glaucoma by reducing ocular pressure, and for neurological disorders such as multiple sclerosis, Huntington's Disease, and spinal cord injury (4).
The THC acts on the receptors of the endocannabinoids. Two known endocannabinoi...

... the "munchies" a physiological effect of marijuana use, or just a psychological effect? Though I did not get an answer, I think it may be related to THC. This question may require more research for the future.

Over all, skin cancer is known to be a very common and dangerous cancer among the U.S.. Although there is no superior or particular cause known for it, it can be reduced by reducing radiation exposure from the sun and also tanning booths and beds. If not attempting to prevent it by staying out of the sun, and seeking not seeking shade and so forth, protection such as longer clothing garments that better cover the body as well as hats and sunglasses can help to eliminate direct exposure and reduce some of the damages that may occur. Certain amounts of sun light are healthy for the body as it provides vitamin- D which the body needs to maintain a healthy life style, though it is crucial not be over exposed as reverse side affects may occur, causing more harm than good.

Indoor tanning is becoming a very popular “hobby”, but most people do not know, or do not care, about its dangerous side effects. Studies show that people who use tanning booths have a much higher chance of being diagnosed with skin cancer. If someone were to start tanning indoors before they turn 30 or 25, the risk of them getting Melanoma peaks, and if they start tanning before they turn 20 or 25, they are much more likely to get basal and squamous cancer.
Surprisingly, even with these astonishing numbers people still continue to put themselves at risk everyday. The solution to all this is very simple, we all need to wear sunscreen when planning to expose ourselves to the sun. There are also other everyday preventive measures that we can take to decrease our chances of harmful exposure to the sun. It is always helpful to wear a shirt and a hat with a broad brim. Wear sunglasses that absorb 99%-100% of UV rays to help your block your eyes and the skin around your eyes from these harmful rays. The two most important things for most people who like to tan are to seek shade frequently and to never use tanning beds. You can put your body at even more of a higher risk of contracting skin cancer when staying in the constant heat.
Throughout the story, Faulkner so painstakingly attempted to maintain as much attention to detail so the reader would not loose sight of her plight of the times. The poor woman, once a pillar of society in her fathers' eye, had no one left once he was gone. Her feeble attempts to maintain a sense of serenity and purpose were always shutdown from within herself. While the world changed outside, Miss Emily's mind never changed from that early state that was bore in her soul.
Even though skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States, it is also preventable if you know the right steps to take. Education on the different types of cancer, risk factors, and preventative measures will help to decrease your chances of ever hearing that dreaded diagnosis “cancer”. Do self-skin checks every month and take those extra steps to protect yourself when you are outside in the sun. It will pay off in the long run.
Skin cancer is the disease in which the epidermis, also known as the outer layer, is infected with malignant cancer cells. The first case of skin cancer was discovered in 1804 by a French physician named Rene Lannec. There are six types. Three major types, and three minor types of skin cancer. The Major forms are basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and malignant melanoma. The three minor types are sarcoma, merkel cell carcinoma and sebaceous gland carcinoma. The signs and symptoms vary between the different types, but they all have one thing in common, changes in the skin. Changes in the skin could be a growth, a spot that appears to be a rash, or even a sore that doesn’t get any better over time, or turns into a mole. The most common causes of skin cancers is over exposer to UV radiation, tanning or genetics Skin cancer cannot be spread person to person, meaning it is not contagious. Sunburn is the leading cause of skin cancer today. When diagnosing any form of skin cancer, the doctor, or dermatologist may remove a part of the abnormal area of the skin and send it off to a laboratory for testing. Treatment depends on the type of cancer, location stage, cancers aggressiveness or level and the patient’s condition. While most of the time surgery is recommended, it is not always the best method of treatment for everyone. Different surgical procedures that are used to help cure the disease are known as excision, Mohs surgery, curatage and electrodissectaton.

In the final analysis, scientists and doctors have given people many “tips” for avoiding skin cancer. These “tips” can be summarized in the following points . Most parents remembered hearing about the importance of protecting their children from the sun, yet children are still playing in the sun without sunscreen or protective clothing. Many people these days are not taking skin cancer seriously after knowing its significance. Skin cancer has been a growing problem in the United States and millions of people have suffered from it every year. The three most common skin cancers are Melanoma, Basal cell, and Squamous cell, which can cause bumps, sores, growths, etc. Skin cancer is a deadly disease with many causes, but the advantage is that it can be prevented.

People Need to Recycle In the United Sates, where the population is inflated every year. The amount of space for landfills decreases every day. The need for recycling should not be asked, it should just be done out of habit. Everyone in America needs to recycle, to help the lamdfill problem, help the environment, and help produce new products from recycled goods. In America there is about two-hundred and eight tons of residential and commercial trash generated a year, 4.3 pounds per person a day (Prichard 1A). This is an overwhelming amount of trashed produced yearly. When people recycle this number can be drastically cut. But many people do not practice and use recycling. Consumers and businesses should use the three R’s; recycle, reuse, and recharge (Prichard 1A). Consumers and businesses are producing more garbage than ever before. As a result, we are rapidly running out of landfill space. In 1979 America had close to 18,500 landfills, and by 1991 that number was nearly cut in half (Prichard 10A). Kentucky, Ohio, Minnesota, and Illinois will reach their maximum limit on landfills by the year 2005 (Prichard 10A). This whole garbage problem has forced us to try other options. Many of these options have been very unsuccessful. People have tried burning their garbage, that cause pollution to the environment. Some states even resorted to dropping their trash in the ocean, only to have the very same trash float ashore later. Dumping it on other states leads to feuding neighbors. Indiana passed a law to block imports of out-of-state trash, but a federal court ruled the law illegal (Prichard 10A). Instead of trying to find new ways to dump our trash, we need to find b...
Recycling is a great way of trying to save and conserve the natural resources that are used from the Earth. Also, it reduces the amount of waste in landfills, as well as, reducing greenhouse gasses. Recycling is one simple way of putting a global footprint into the Earth.
