The Effects of Abortion That You Don't Know About Many women that choose to have an abortion do not realize that it is a dangerous surgery with serious side effects. These side effects are both physical and psychological. Having an abortion is unnatural and interrupts this function of the human body. “The women’s body naturally resists the abortion, causing physical and emotional problems” (“Who does Abortion Affect?”). Almost all of the women who had abortions feel that they have made the wrong decision. The women are not informed about the side effects of abortion. Many women that had abortions said their doctors gave “little or no information about the potential health risks which might follow the surgery” (“Who does Abortion Affects?”). A Supreme Court decision in 1986 stated that women do not have to be informed about the health risks before the abortion (“Who does Abortion Affects?”). Unfortunately, these women learn about the adverse effects of abortion when it is too late. There are many long-term physical side effects of having an abortion that many people do not realize. The worst complication is death. The mother may die of complications related to the abortion such as hemorrhaging, intense bleeding. Another adverse effect is the risk of infection of the uterus caused by the exposure to the outside environment. Women may get an embolism (blood cot). Abortionists may give the mother anesthesia, giving her the wrong dosage. The woman may get entopic tubal Pregnancies, which are pregnancies outside of the uterus. The most common place for these pregnancies is in the fallopian tubes. These related health problems are the fifth leading cause of matern... ... middle of paper ... ...continue. There are many adverse effects of abortion on the mother, whether they are physical or psychological. If pregnant women knew about all of the side effects, they would possibly reconsider having an abortion. If the ethics of abortion does not enter a woman’s mind, maybe the side effects of it will. If they do not care about their unborn child, they may care about themselves. If every woman considering an abortion knew what would happen afterward, they would possibly be deterred from their decision. Bibliography: Works Cited Reardon, David C. Another thing to take into consideration is the physical health risks during and after an abortion. As Ring-Cassidy and Gentles(2003) said “Abortion is never with out risks”(p. 89), this tells us that you can never be sure your going to come out completely fine when you go in for an aborti...
Abortion, like any other medical procedure, carries some risks. When one considers, however, that “the risk of death associated with childbirth is about 10 times as high as that associated with abortion” (“Know the Facts”), the threat of abortion suddenly does not seem as perilous. Additionally, contrary to popular misconception, abortion does not contribute to future infertility or development of breast cancer. It is therefore safer and more prudent to have an abortion than an unwanted pregnancy.
The article “Abortion Harms Women” suggests supporters of legalized abortion downplay the health and mental risks associated with abortion. Research has indicated there is short and long-term physical and mental harm related to abortion (“Abortion Harms Women”). Abortion can cause many physical complications for the women, such as infections, excessive bleeding, and blood clots. They can even be life-threatening in some cases. In the article “Abortion Harms Women” the writer points out abortion is surprisingly the fifth leading cause of death maternally in the United States. There are certain complications, including infection, hemorrhage, pulmonary embolism (blood clot), and complications from anesthetics that are responsible for a woman’s death (“Abortion Harms Women”). Also, there is a greater risk of mortality the further along a woman is when she has an abortion. Along with the physical risks associated with abortion, there are the psychological risks. Abortion can cause women to feel ashamed or guilty, resulting in an increase in emotional pain. In the article “Abortion Harms Women” the writer explains many emotional problems that can affect women after an abortion. Some women experience an increase in the use of alcohol and drugs. Studies have shown that 34% of women are at a greater risk for anxiety and depression. Also, there is a 60% increase for women to
The majority of women who follow through with getting an abortion receive it in the first trimester of their pregnancy, this causing less of a stress to the body since it has not had a fertile egg in the body for a long time. Studies show that less than one percent of women who have an abortion have future medical problems. Research has showed and proved that the only risk of death and future medical problems would be if the procedure was conducted by an inexperienced person, who does not do the procedure correctly (Cohen,
Abortion has so many different viewpoints on the topic, some positive, some negative. Roe and Wade played a huge part in the decision making process on abortion. Everyone has their own opinions about abortion, but the opinions concerning when life begins have a significant effect on a person’s views concerning whether they are for or against abortion. Studies of the long-term effects of abortion on women are traumatic and devastating. They can include mental, physical, and emotional problems after an abortion.
...ncreased pain, an aversion to sex and/or males in general, or the development of a promiscuous life-style.” It is also said that women who have abortions are not guaranteed to be able to conceive children. Women usually can experience the following physical complications: cervical, ovarian, and liver cancer, uterine perforation, cervical lacerations, placenta previa, premature delivery with the next baby, an ectopic pregnancy, pelvic inflammatory disease, endometritis, and lower general health.
Abortions make different women suffer in different ways. There are so many serious physical complications each year resulting from abortions. Are the health risks really worth it? Breast, cervical, ovarian, and liver cancers are higher risks in women who have abortions. Perforation of the uterus and cervical lacerations are possibilities while aborting. Placenta Previa, which is where the placenta blocks the neck of the uterus and interferes with normal delivery of the baby, has higher risks in pregnancies following abortions. Women are also at higher risks for ectopic pregnancy (pregnancy that occurs outside the uterus) and handicapped newborns in later pregnancies.

Many women after having an abortion have problems carrying along with the pregnancy since they might have a miscarriage due to the abortion they had. There’s health risks that come right after having an abortion, which includes having blood clots, injury to the cervix, and injury to other organs. Having an abortion could also cause you to have cardiac arrest, and in some cases renal failure. Not many women get these side effects after having an abortion only about 10 percent do, and one-fifth of the complications are life threatening. One-fifth of the complications that are life threatening include, breast cancer, serious mental health problems, miscarriages and even death. A huge risks that many women run while getting an abortion is having a preterm pregnancy next time they decide to get pregnant. A preterm pregnancy is having the baby three or four weeks before the actual due date. Another common thing that happens is that women develop Placenta Previa in future pregnancies. Placenta Previa is a complication while pregnant where placenta covers all or part of the mother 's cervix, which could cause lots of bleeding during delivery. Researchers have made discoveries that abortion produces psychological risks like depression, anxiety and suicide. Depression is a mood disorder that constantly makes you
Thinking about abortion is easy but actually doing is very difficult. There are many procedures you have to go from, to abort your child. The after effect is tremendously effects to your physical and mental health. According to the best record based study of deaths following pregnancy and abortion, a 1997 government funded study in Finland, women who abort are approximately four times more likely to die in the following year than women who carry their pregnancies to
The side effects of the abortion is not just physical, it is very much so emotional. In several cases, mothers who have had abortions are left with emotional trauma. Some emotional trauma includes, eating disorders, depression, flashbacks and suicidal thoughts. Along with emotional side effects there is physical sides effects of an abortion. Some of the physical side effects mothers deal with is damage to the cervix and internal organs, not having a complete abortion, infection and scarring of the uterus lining. With abortions the mothers have a higher risk of developing cancer. According to the American Pregnancy
The procedure causes health complications for the mother, inflicts pain on a living fetus, and kills the unborn baby. Late-term abortion induces innumerable physical health complications to the patient, including severe infections, extreme bleeding, and damage to the uterus. In addition, one analysis, in relation to abortion problems, states, “from 1988 to 1997 found the risk of death increased by 38% for each additional week of gestation, during the pregnancy.” (Jones).

Complications although rare may arise requiring emergency termination. These types of abortion are commonly referred to as spontaneous abortions. They are unintentional and more than likely occur between or before the 20th and 24th week. Malignant health problems with the mother, can become active and cause a pregnancy scare leading to a miscarriage. More than half the time doctors are not aware of the pregnancy when a miscarriage happens. Health issues like high blood pressure, abnormal uterine bleeding or abnormalities, diabetes and many more can be contributing factors to a miscarriage. In 2013, in her article “What Do You Know about Pregnancy,” Moore suggests that other illnesses can be of harm to the expecting mother i.e. cancer, cardiovascular disease, kidney problems, infections etc. (para .10) Less we forget a traumatic experience during pregnancy can cause a miscarriage i.e. an accident or physical trauma. Induced abortion also can be suggested to the expecting parents, if the pregnancy causes a health scare. In cases like this physicians are inclined to save the mother’s life over the
