In this article, the author expresses the effects that spanking your child as a form of punishment at the age earlier ages of toddlerhood such as to the effects it has on the child when he or she becomes older. Spanking is a very common form of punishment at this age and used frequently across the United States as well as other countries. Many parents do not understand the effects that spanking has on their children now and what effect it has on their future and that there are other forms of punishment that can leave the same impact but cause less emotional and physical damage.
In this study they explored the association of spanking frequency before age 2 throughout different ethnicities, with children’s risk for tremendous behavior problems 4 years later, after they had entered school. Thyme out can be very effective. In class we have studied that punishments such as spanking is less effective than rewards and cause the child to fear the person giving the punishments and then this will cause the child to be more aggressive, harms their social relationships for short and long term. This article does somewhat back up this argument for especially the white populations.
This article does get its point across rat spanking does lead to later behavioral problems but only in a specific race. They should have come up with more evidence for the pothers. What is very interesting to me was that this study only found significant behavioral problems in white children. It seems like it would affect all children in the same way not just a specific race however, I think that High or low SES is a factor in this situation and further research should be done to find out whether there e is a significance or not
