When David became king , He had many enemies. One time in his life King David’s hometown was captured. Many of the soldiers families and wives were taken including David’s. David and the rest of his army were devastated. Many of them were crying. The Bible said that they cried so much that at the end they had no more tears. The anguish was hard to battle and things got worse for David after his army wanted to stone him to death after everything just happened. David’s faith was being tested to the extreme. We soon find out later in David’s life how God used him and in fact God would say that David was a Man after God’s own heart. David easily could have given up and quit on God but he didn’t. Many times humans find themselves in a very weak spot where there is nowhere to run or anyone to call on, by the Lord is the one who supplies the strength, In the New Testament , the Apostle Paul was captured and tortured. There were many times where Apostle Paul fet that he wanted to quit and to move on but he kept asking the Lord for strength. APostle Paul understands that going through pain will give him endurance and strength. Romans 5:2-5 says this “Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this pace of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory. We can rejoice, too when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hop will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love. Apostle Paul’s life was filled with lots of tragedy especially when he was younger. In scripture and other testimonies of life teach us that with Jesus anything is possible. He will carry his followers through many storms and they will gain victory with the
Loving God and hating his own mother kept David strong. David loved God, he prayed every night to God. He hated his mother so much he wanted to outthink her tricks, he did. He used different tactics like over exaggerating his pain when he got beat, putting a wet cloth over his mouth when his mother put cleaning products in a room with him. David kept counting time in his head in order to make the time pass faster.
Pain and Suffering “To live is to suffer, To survive is to find meaning in the suffering”. What is a tragedy? Tragedy is, an event causing great suffering, and distress, such as a serious accident, crime, or natural catastrophe. Tragedy started in Ancient Greek and evolved into religious ceremonies. Shyamalan painted a harsh image of tragedy when he made the movie Signs, he showed that you have to have faith and family to get through tragic events.
The book Picking Cotton, the Bible, the film Conviction, and many gospel songs are given great ideas from people who overcame obstacles of faith. Obstacles can be anything that stands in our way of reaching our goals, having prosperity, or being what God want us to be. Great faith endures great tribulations, each day comes with it is quota of struggles and difficulties and every minute victory becomes seed to grow our faith. Whether we are physically contacted by sickness, death, divorce, or unemployment we require grace to endure. But during endeavoring times we learn who we authentically are and more importantly, we learn about God‘s faithfulness.
Then one day when he was twenty, he suddenly felt that he had the wrath of God on him. He realized that his sin was not forgiven, he was just doing good works and religious things to make up the difference. Even though he realized this, he still thought that his good works would still account for his good. He prayed and prayed but could not get anywhere. He even set a time to fast, but still God did not seem to work. All the while God was softening David's heart, David was having a problem with self-confidence. He was confident that the works and the religious things which he did were going to help him.5
Tragedy comes in many forms, for example earthquakes, tornadoes and hurricanes are all types of tragedies. On the other hand, when talking about tragedy in literature, it has a whole different meaning. Tragedy in literature is on a smaller scale than things like earthquakes, tornadoes and hurricanes. In literature tragedy is usually about one person and the horrible things that happen to them during their life in a story or play.
Tragedy is an event causing great suffering, destruction, and distress. Tragedy takes its toll on everyone and everything. This is made obvious between the passages written by Mark Twain and Jack London. Twain's passage is a narrative , he uses satire to describe how society reacts to tragedy. While London's passage personifies the city of San Francisco as the city copes with this earthquake disaster.
There are too many words to count that describe ¨America.¨ America is the home of brave men and women who will go through the worst and most unbearable things just to keep this country and its people safe. These men and women don't just fight for the people they fight for freedom for the people and for the citizens of foreign countries. The leaders and people of America need perseverance to keep on fighting and leading this country for the greater of mankind. One of my favorite quotes/ mottos of all time is Semper Fidelis which means always faithful. America isn't just some land that a bunch of dead people settled. It is the home and safe haven for millions of people and that is why we are so protective and strong.
As Josef Stalin once said, “If a single person dies in front of you, it is a tragedy. If a million of people die on the other side of the earth, it is a statistic.” The most affect tragedy has is on the protagonist, someone with great social importance. What makes it a tragedy is the ultimate downfall of the main character. The hero will recognize their choices that lead them to that downfall and how it affected others around them.
Most of the people can do one thing very well. Is it possible for us to do any task good you need to do like a pro? Yes, I believe it is possible, because, I have done and I often succeed to be good at the task that I need to do. And, it is possible for any of you to do it by using few crucial elements in a right way; and those are persevere, enthusiastic, observant, consistency and eagerness.
Despite David’s conniving ploy to kill another man, he was still viewed as a great king. David’s mere appointing as king, through divine kinship armed him with divine favor, making him impervious to criticism. Even Saul, who was ruler at one point, feared David’s favor. “Saul was afraid of David, because the Lord was with him but had departed from Saul.” (1 Samuel 18:12 The Harper Collins Study Bible) Saul, at the time was king, yet he sensed that God was with David, possibly foreseeing David’s future as king.
I Believe in the Importance of Perseverance During my childhood years, I have always been fascinated about basketball. As I grew up and played basketball more and more, it became a clear to me that one day I dream to become a very good basketball player. The game of basketball has always fascinated me because the game is not as simple, “putting the ball in the hoop”, it requires skill and strategy in order to do so. In order to become that great player I strive to be, I need to put in time and effort. Through sheer practice and perseverance, I know that maybe one day, I can be as good as the pros playing basketball in the NBA.
Dr Van Shore points out that David is called a man after God’s own heart, when we read the psalms we are ‘listening in’ to David’s heart and we can learn from David’s confession. In psalm 32 David describes how he feels when he refused to confess to God; “When I kept it all inside my bones turned to powder, … the pressure never let up” Then he describes the relief and peace he finds when he confesses his sins and is reconciled to God again, “suddenly the pressure was gone, my guilt dissolved, my sin disappeared” We see this same tangible sentiment in psalms 51 and 130 where David experiences anguish at his sin, and then relief and joy at the forgiveness of God.
Courage, Selflessness and Perseverance. Do these three words bring something in mind for you? For me, it brings up heroism. All the three words mentioned above connect to make up a hero. Examples of heroes can be made-up characters such as Superman and Batman.
“Never, never, never give up” -Winston Churchill. Humanity faced many conflicts throughout history, from famines to wars, from murders to genocides. So, what is the best way to respond to conflict. Perseverance; mankind persisted through some of the worst situations. Tenacity was and still is used to this day, it has impacted a lot of people and brought people together.
In my own words I would describe perseverance as being determinate to overcome something extremely difficult in order to become successful. I would say the obstacle of overcoming the obstacle of what to do with my life. Currently, I struggle with depression of what am I going to do after I graduate. It seems difficult for me to pick a career for life, and it feels that when I think about this at home, I start to contemplate thinking am I good enough for specific people at a specific job. It has taken me such a long time to realize that it is okay that you are not suppose to know if you are not ready.
