Have you ever wanted to know who started the tradition of green eggs and ham? The person who started the tradition was none other than Theodor Seuss Geisel or better known as Dr. Seuss. Theodor was a book author for the children. He wrote books to teach lessons and to bring joy and imagination to children. Theodor’s life and books left an untimely legacy for the world to cherish forever. Many things in Theodor’s life early life influenced him to become a author for children. Theodor was born in downtown Springfield on 22 Howard Street on Wednesday, March 2, 1904(Cohen,15). He was born to a man named Theodor Geisel and a woman named Henrietta Geisel(Cohen,15). He had two sisters that were named Christine Geisel and Henrietta Geisel(Cohen,15).
Theodor Seuss Geisel was born on March 2, 1904 in Springfield, Massachusetts. To Theodor Robert Geisel and Henrietta Seuss Geisel. His father was a successful brewmaster. All of his grandparents were German immigrants. His father managed the family brewery and later was a supervisor of Springfield’s public park system. The family brewery was closed because of the Prohibition his father had to get a different job he got the park system job from the mayor of Springfield, Massachusetts John A. Denison.
Theodor Seuss Geisel (aka Dr. Seuss) was born in Springfield, Massachusetts on March 2, 1904. His father worked in the family brewery, Kuhlmbach & Geisel, which locals pronounced, "come back and guzzle” until prohibition. His mother’s maiden name was Seuss. She was the daughter of a baker in Springfield. Seuss had an older sister named Marnie (Kibler, 1987).

Theodore’s father was a businessman and philanthropist. Theodore’s mother was also born from an affluent family. Starting at a very early age, Theodore suffered from a heavy case of asthma and had horrible eyesight throughout his whole life. He did a lot of physical activity and developed a very strong physique. Despite physical barriers, Theodore had a very strong outlook on life and was very strong physically and mentally. Theodore was also very intelligent and he attended Harvard College and Columbia Law School.

If you were to really critique some of his books or poems, you might see that some of his themes wouldn’t seem to pertain to children.

All of these literary elements capture the reader’s imagination and creates a successful piece of literature. However, the authors stress the importance of genre in Chapter 2, so I will briefly go over the different types of genres there are in literature and how it affects the readers greatly.
As a future educator, I have reflected on how my own personal experiences have formed me into the person that I am today, and how I can use my experiences to help my future students. I have also reflected on how I can information about family systems as well as risk and resiliency to better understand families that I will work with in the future, as well as how children with special needs impact a family’s structure. I believe all of these components are essential for teacher, student, and family collaboration and success.

Around the age of 13 he became determined to learn how to defend himself, because while on a stage coach two other boys started to beat him up and he could not defend himself.
