The Difficulties of Mormons and Gentiles Living Together The Mormons and the gentiles found it difficult to get along it was both the Mormons and gentiles fault. When large amounts of Mormons moved to a new settlement e.g. Illinois, the gentiles felt that they were going to take over and rule their area. The gentiles attacked the Mormons to show them who is boss. The Mormons didn't fight back but made a police unit, the Danites this protected the Mormons and tried to keep peace. The gentile's thought that this was an army and attacked the Mormons forcing them to go. In independence Missouri the Mormons set up a bank and due to their good nature it had a lot of customers and was doing well in the beginning. The gentiles trusted the Mormons and had a good relationship with them there was no fighting. When there was an economical depression in the USA the gentiles wanted all their money back due to the bank lending so much out they couldn't pay back everyone at once. The bank finally went bankrupt and the gentiles thought they had been cheated and that the Mormons had stolen their money. This was unfortunate for the Mormons, as it was not their fault. The gentiles did not take kindly to polygamy, they thought it was wrong and that it was selfish and disloyal. This caused a fall out between the two groups and eventually this caused fighting and the Mormons were forced to move. The gentiles felt the new Mormon religion was imposing and that it was an insult to set up a new religion without some kind of miracle or great leader. The Mormon faith was set up by a normal man for normal people it had a new face on religion. Some of the gentiles accepted it others didn't there was a fall out and the Mormons were attacked. How far was smith to blame for Mormons trouble? Smith founded the religion so in some ways it was all his fault if their was no religion the Mormons wouldn't be in any trouble and
