The different leaderships of “Lord of the Flies”
The plane crashes, there are no adults, no people, just you alone. You find another person and are very relieved. You use a shell to summon the rest of the people on the Island. They first thing you find you need to do is build a leadership. You pick a leader built of democracy. It starts out well but then you find there is more than one type of leadership on the Island and some of your opinions change. There were many different types of leadership in The Lord of the Flies written by William Golding. Having Jack, Ralph and Piggy in mind this paper is going to show you that there were three main differences of the leadership in Lord of the Flies.
One type of leadership was Jack’s version. His version involves being bossy, stubborn and violent. He is so use to being in charge, being the popular boy at school, that he doesn’t like the change which makes him bossy. He tries to control the group more than he has been trying to help. He even tries to claim himself leader even though he was not voted and has done nothing to help the other people on the Island. He only likes and tries to help the people who agree with him, his “followers”, who are willing to do anything even if it means not getting off the Island. Also he is stubborn. Even though everyone agreed on the conch deciding who talks, he doesn’t care as long because he wants to talk. Even when people tell him to shut up. No matter what the orders or rules are he doesn’t care. Even when everyone agrees that they should do something but he won’t do it just because he doesn’t want to. Last, he is a violent leader. Page 94 even states, “... some of the hunters, drove Jack to violence…” When people don’t follow the rules he wants...

Last, there is his devotion. on page 88 it shows that even though he was naked he ran and scraps himself to go set the fire again. Even while he is dripping with blood, the only thing on his mind is rekindling the fire to send a signal that they are trapped on the Island.
“Styles are tailor made to different situations. Different leaders must have their own styles and these styles must be able to adapt to different people and situations.” ― John Ng. The only problem with the three different types of leadership on the Island is that they are not willing to change to fit the situation that they are in, which was why it was so hard for them to find one style of leadership that would have worked for everyone. Well, as you can now see there were three main leaderships on the Island.
According to Peter Drucker, he claims, “Effective leadership is not about making speeches or being liked; leadership is defined by results not attributes.” Leadership is a commitment that is meant to be kept and done accurately. Leading a group or a society can lead to dreadful obstacles, but it’s your responsibility to have a solution to end. Ralph and Jack as a leader cause a majority of downhill for the boys. Affecting themselves and their surroundings to abruptly fall into pieces. Which lead to a mass destruction of the island, Lord of the Flies. The devastating events on this island lead to the massive chaos of Lord of the Flies, blaming Ralph and Jack for denial, lack of cooperation and inefficient leadership.
Leadership is a trait that many people have naturally and others try to obtain. Many people consider themselves a good leader when they fail to carry out the characteristics leadership require. In the book, “Lord of the Flies”, Ralph is a better leader than Jack because of the traits he possesses. That is why certain skills are necessary to be considered a successful leader.
Jack’s authoritative figure in the beginning of Lord of the Flies is one quality that shows how he is a dynamic character. To begin with, Jack shows he is authoritative by sabotaging Ralph’s integrity and rules. For instance, on pages one-hundred and one and one-hundred and two, Jack says, “We don’t need the conch anymore. We know who ought to say things. What good did Simon do speaking, or Bill, or Walter? It’s time some people knew they’ve got to keep quiet and leave deciding things to the rest of us.” Jack is trying to get rid of the idea that the conch, or freedom of speech, is needed. This is another step away from civilized behavior because a newly established order of power replaces the conch. Another way Jack shows he is authoritative is by wanting to be a leader. First, Jack forms his own group that he calls the hunters. Then, Jack intimidates the other boys to join his group by talking about the beast. Jack tells the little ‘uns that are scared that they will forget about the beast. ...
There are two different types of leaders: one who is loved by the people while acts responsibly and one who is feared by the people while being respected. These forms of leadership are shown throughout Lord of the Flies with Ralph and Jack. Niccolò Machiavelli uses The Prince to discuss how a leader should act and what leadership style is the most effective. Machiavelli clearly illustrates the types of leaders Ralph and Jack are by providing examples from ancient history.
Leadership is something that stands out in people. In a group, people tend to look to the strongest person to follow. However, the strongest person may not be the best choice to follow. In Lord of the Flies by William Golding, Ralph and Jack each have leadership qualities. Jack is probably the stronger of the two; however, Ralph is a better leader. He has a better understanding for the boys. He also has more common sense and treats the boys better than Jack.
There is an unknown perfect science to being a leader. Some say that this is something you can attain over time with training or guidance, and others say it's a talent you must be born with. In Lord of the Flies by William Golding, one of the main characters Ralph, is elected the leader. The reason he is elected the leader isn't boldly laid out for the reader, but what is noticed, is that Ralph carries the true essence of a leader. Ralph can be seen as a great leader by the way he has everyone's best interest in mind, by the way he sets certain rules to maintain a civil society, and how he calls assemblies to address the issues that he has become most concerned with.
The need for social order is a very common theme throughout The Lord of the Flies. Over the course of the novel the reader witnesses the slow collapse of all forms of order, government, and civilization on the island. The results of this collapse are astounding. Golding writes, “As they watched, a flash of fire appeared at the root of one wisp, and then the smoke thickened. Small flames stirred at the trunk of a tree and crawled away through leaves and brushwood, dividing and increasing… Beneath the capering boys a quarter of a mile square of forest was savage with smoke and flame” (Golding 44). An individual by the name of Donald McGannon once said, “Leadership is an action, not a position.” In order for a leader to know what needs to be achieved and be able to relentlessly drive to complete it, they must exhibit different qualities and abilities that will be beneficial and vital to their success. This is important in view of the fact that it prompts and inspires others to be able to follow in their example. In Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, after a group of boys crash onto a deserted island, an example of this is seen through Ralph, who best exhibits good leadership qualities that will help bring the boys to safety and rescue. Throughout the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding, many different conflicting societies develop. These groups of young English schoolboys have conflicts between them for many different reasons. Some of them are so spread apart in age that their beliefs and actions are very different. Other groups are conflicting because they have different opinions about who the leader of the entire group should be. The groups also argue about what their priorities should be while trapped on the island. These conflicts continue to grow until the very end, when one group finally gains supremacy.
There are always people who, in a group, come out with better qualities to be a leader than others. The strongest people however, become the greater influences which the others decide to follow. However, sometimes the strongest person is not the best choice. Authors often show how humans select this stronger person to give an understanding of the different powers that people can posses over others.
Leadership encourages hope within the doubtful group of kids headed by Ralph in the novel, Lord of the Flies. Ralph's leadership brings the boys together by giving them a common goal to survive. By giving the boys a common goal they respect one other and have a sense of togetherness to complete their goal to survive. Also their respect for each other brings peace and happiness for a little while on the island. Through Ralph's leadership, hope is obtainable for all those who live on the island.

Change tries to better situations for people, but effects people in different daily. People have to embrace change and be open minded in order to be successful with the change. A leader has to be present forming relationships with others on his/her team and influence others to achieve his/her goal. If Fred and Alice did not connect with the others on their team, or influence others in their colony, then the penguins could have lost their home and in the end, died. Leadership is important when change is present because without a leader then there would be no change, or new discoveries in the world.

These days, it seems that not many people have the courage to challenge the authority because they think to question people is not respectful.
