Everyone has said “I wish I was older,” or “I wish I was a kid again,” at least once in their life. Or there has been arguments between whether being an adult is better than being a child or vice versa. Teens seem to be the ones impacted by this question the most. Confusion between which is superior is not confusing once an individual figures out how superior one is over the other. When adulthood and childhood are contrasted, it is clear that adulthood dominates childhood. To start off, there’s the activities that adults can do that children cannot do. Adults are able to do multiple different activities such as going to the movies alone, attending parties without supervision, going to concerts without supervision, and the ability to drive. Another point is one made by Nandango saying “Sure I may have to pay bills but I can also buy whatever I want when I want it.” (Nandango, 2009). Contrary to that, children are forced to stay at home by their parent/guardian and most things they go out and do require an adult to watch over them. It is not enjoyable having to take an adult with you wherever you go. Most would despise taking a trusted adult with them any location or event they plan to go to. With this, adults have an …show more content…
Adults also rule in this category because of their ability to have self-control and be mature about everything thus resulting in them being more independent for themselves and do most things alone. For example, in an article by Important India, they state adults have more freedom than children with situations such as traveling (“Compare and Contrast Adulthood and Childhood,” 2016). However, children have little to no independence because they are dependent on their parent/guardian and anything done is on them; especially when negative. As a result of this, they are careless and immature. Independence is important to most and adulthood is easily dominant in this category compared to
One way that Greenblatt considers a person to be an adult is by the means of rites, or customary practices that alter depending what point in time it is about. Adulthood traditions like having a family, having a job, or fighting in war is crucial
In the book, To Kill a Mockingbird, many themes are discussed throughout the story. The most significant theme is how over the course of the story, Jem and Scout slowly mature after specific events, and realize the reality of good and evil. Along the way, they meet Tom Robinson, a black man who is convicted of raping a white girl, who plays a major role in the story. Mrs. Dubose, a senile grumpy woman, shows what “real courage” is. Arthur Radley, known as Boo, is a recluse who is said to have tried to kill his father. As the events unfold, Jem and Scout are hit with the reality of racism and social inequality, but most of all, how good and evil play a role in people’s minds, and hearts.
J. J. Arnett argues his theory about a developmental stage individuals go through of 18-25 year olds as a new concept, (Arnett, 2000, pp. 469). He describes emerging adulthood as being a sustained period of time where this age group, as mentioned previously, explores their roles preceding being an adult. These movements can include events similarly by taking longer than previous years to get married and have children, moving back in with their parents at a point during this age span, exploring self-identities, not feeling like an adult and feelings of self-failure. James E. Cote, who is a previous colleague of Arnett argues the opposite about this concept being an unexperienced developmental stage Arnett calls, “Emerging Adulthood”. Cote states
The transition from childhood to adulthood can be a harsh and difficult journey. As teenagers become young adults, they fall face first into a new and frightening world of—no longer feeling safe or sheltered.
Individuals when questioned on the period of life that they wish to go back; the answer would definitely be their childhood. Intelligent Life magazine mentioned that this is because childhood is the best time of a person’s life (2011). A child has very few responsibilities and commitment compared to an adult. Children in the childhood period do not even have to think or worry about paying utility bills, doing house chores or earning for the family. Children can enjoy carrying out their favorite activities during free time. The writer recollects her childhood experience as the most memorable duration in her 23 years of life. However, not every child would experience their childhood alike the writer. Some children would never want to ever look back at their childhood as it would have been the darkest period of their life.
Emerging Adulthood represents the period of development from late teens through their twenties, mainly focusing on the ages 18-25. This is the period which people start exploring and realizing the capabilities of their lives, which then helps them characterize as adults and no longer teenagers. This topic of psychology is compelling to me because it’s a stage that every adult has lived through, it’s interesting that we have all experienced it differently based on our life circumstances and demographics. It’s interesting to see the changes throughout the years and eventually it will be easier for young people to explore these years as more young adults are going to school nowadays. It teaches me to further understand why emerging adults go through
When I was younger, I always wanted to be an adult. I was fortunate enough to have enjoyed a happy childhood, but something about being an adult mesmerized me. As I've gotten older, however, I've realized the naivety of this misconception and I've seen the struggles of adulthood firsthand.Back then, I had no idea that my transition to adulthood would occur much sooner than expected and in a way that no one should have to endure. When I was sixteen years old, my transition to adulthood was marked by my unexpected responsibility as a caregiver for my ill mother.
Adulthood, as a child, was always portrayed as a time of freedom. The short sighted minds of children, as I once also had, only wanted to get away from the parent’s all-seeing eyes. I never thought a job too bad, what my mom did, my dad did, it didn’t seem too bad, but how wrong I was. I thought I could
Childhood and Adulthood are similar in learning, making their own decisions, and having goals in life.
Transition from childhood to adulthood is not just age related. It is a shift in the way our mind starts to process things.
A childhood is the delicate phase of every adolescent's life where they must mature into their own person, with their own responsibilities. Although every individual will eventually bloom with their own personality, morals, and perspectives, the education and values we learn and see along the way add to the fingers that mold. We begin when we are born, and are taken in by strangers. These priceless people show us love, and just how strong attachments can be. Family ties snare us in their loving webs and become the support network to catch us throughout our youthful falls. They are our first real pictures of people, and their actions and emotions immediately become examples.
Adults are more creative than chlidren due to a more complex mindset of proccessing, forming, and showing models of ideas into a group of people and bringing it into action. Adults are more out going when it comes to building an idea into an enterprise of a business and become successful during and beginning the idea. "Einstein was four years old before he could speak and seven before he could read." Thus proving that with age the wiser you become. Another famous character that was wiser in his later years was Abraham Lincoln. "
Childhood and adulthood are two different periods of one’s lifetime but equally important. Childhood is the time in everybody’s life when they are growing up to be an adult. This is when they are being considered babies because of their youthfulness and innocence. Adulthood is the period of time where everybody is considered “grown up,” usually they begin to grow up around the ages of eighteen or twenty-one years old but they do remain to develop during this time. However, in some different backgrounds, not everybody is not fully adults until they become independent with freedom, responsible for their own actions, and able to participate as an adult within society. Although childhood and adulthood are both beneficial to our lives, both periods share some attributes such as independence, responsibility, and innocence that play distinctive roles in our development.
As human beings, nowadays we go through different stages of our lives, childhood and adulthood are two crucial stages in our lives that we should focus on. These two steps in life are partially different in certain aspects, but similar in others. Based upon dependency levels, responsibilities, and health changes, I believe that some people prefer adulthood over childhood. As we start developing in life, we depend on someone; we must make a living out for yourself. In our Childhood, every child depends on someone all the time for everything. If we start right from the very beginning, we know that a baby depends entirely on their parents. When children get to the preschool stage, you can begin to make the most of the
The child is linked with intuition, creativity, drive and enjoyment. The adult is rational and has an objective and logical side, which allows work to get done. This is part of us that should be involved in making hard decisions because it weighs the pros and cons of the decision without prejudice.
