So, the Dead Poets Society was about an English Teacher at the Welton Academy for Boys who was trying new methods of teaching so he will be able to actually get through to the boys. The boys are also under a lot of pressure by their parents and the rest of the members of the school. The problem with Mr. Keating (the English Teacher) was that his method of teaching is very different from how the school has been doing things in the last decades. Mr. Keating has been teaching the boys that they need to pursue their dreams and believe in romanticism. This leads to a path of destruction for Mr. Keating. keating was seeing this. He would tell the boys to think freely and bring their stories to life. He didn 't want to teach these boys to be robots. The school board didn 't like this at all. As soon as Neil died they put the blame on Mr keating but he was actually the one who taught the class to be rambunctious and to look at life from a whole new angle. He taught the boys to live THEIR lives the way THEY want to, not how their PARENTS want them to. I think that he actually starts to admire and idolize Mr. Keating because he can do all of the things Todd can not. Mr. Keating encourages behvior that he never thought he would even be able to talk about. So Todd begins to build more confidence and stand up for himself. When Todd found out about Neil, I think that it was kind of his last straw. He was sick of just being a push over and not being able to stand up for what he beleives in or for what he wants to do. He is also sick of having to try and wals in his brothers shoes. His parents rub it in his face that his brother was this AMAZING person an he could never be as great as him. I think that he is just sick of it and he sees Mr. Keating as his only REAL relationship because he hasnt tried to push him into doing things. So thats why he stoon up for mr. Director Peter Weir, director of The Truman Show, presents the importance of individuality and speaking up in his movie Dead Poets Society, a fictional but realistic story that tells the story of a group of friends at the Wellington Academy prep school and their interactions with their new English teacher, John Keating (Robin Williams). Keating teaches the boys life lessons through some interesting teaching methods that end up changing his students’ approach to life’s challenging situations. Throughout watching Dead Poets Society, I found myself liking the movie more and more as it progressed.
Dead Poets Society a movie released in 1989 represents the problems with privet education in the late 1950’s. John Keating a new Teacher at Welton Academy, a private school for boys challenges the “the four pillars of; tradition, honor, discipline, and excellence” (Schulman) Welton has instilled in their students for one hundred years. Keating dares his students not to conform, but rather “to find their own voice before it is lost forever” (Schulman). Dead Poets Society points out the conformity many male students faced in private schools as well as in their personal lives during the late 1950’s. The main student character Neil Perry, along with Mr. Keating’s character shows the challenges those who dared to be different faced.

Dead Poets Society directed by Peter Weir is a film that teaches teens to seize their lives, and live them while they can. This school story is teaching a valuable lesson to a group of boys who are having trouble planning out their futures. This is all changed by a unique teacher with an interactive way of teaching. Todd is pressured into meeting the high standards of his older brother, and is unsure about what he is capable of until he steps out of his comfort zone. Todd has almost changed characters throughout the movie. The choices he makes are all caused by something that sparked him to do so.
The character Neil’s father dreadful, excessive parenting led to Neil’s death. Although strict parenting is beneficial, overdoing it has dire consequences. In this case it leads to the death of Neil Perry. Parents not communicating with their child results in a bad connection between the parent and the child with a higher chance of blatant disobedience. How Neil’s father treats him when throughout his life causes his disobedience and later demise.

Their English teacher Mr. Keating is the one bright spot, a kind and smart man who becomes a companion to these boys.. Throughout the movie the boys go through small triumphs which push them towards finding out who they are as people. When Neil, one of the boys, goes through acting in the play which goes against his father's opinion he is showing major non-conformity. He decides to pursue his dream even if it was only for a few hours and that is the epitome of nonconformity and Transcendentalism. He lived in the moment. Traits like Non-Conformity, Human Potential, and truth through observation are all important facets in the movie.
The movie starts out with the opening ceremony of the school and introducing Mr. Keating and Mr. Todd Anderson by name. After the ceremony the scene goes to the dorms where Todd meets his roommate, Neil Perry and his friends: Knox Overstreet, Charlie Dalton, Richard Cameron, and Steven Meeks. The next scene, is first day of school. The boys go through the day collecting mounds of homework, and then they enter Mr. Keating’s class. Mr. Keating walks into class and then walks out telling everyone to follow him and he explains “carpe diem” to the class. The year goes on and the boys re-establish the Dead Poets Society, a group that was dedicated to “Sucking to marrow out of life,” in an old Indian cave outside the school and have meetings there every Friday. The boys soon grow into their new beliefs, Neil gets a part in a play, and when his father finds out they get into a fight opening night Later that night, something horrible happens. The boys are scared because the administration is investigating into what happened the night before, and Cameron cracks and snitches on the boys and tells the administration that it was all Mr. Keating’s fault. Charlie hits Cameron and gets expelled, and the rest of the boys were forced to sign a document stating that all that happened was Keating’s fault. In the end, Keating is fired but many of the boys stand up for him including Todd
Dead Poets Society, a movie set in Welton Academy, a rigorous and elite all-boys private school, brings to life the philosophy of transcendentalism through its characters. The philosophy, which believes a person needs to find their individual, unique self and not allow the conformist ways of society to hamper the ability to have self-reliance, is introduced by Mr. Keating, the new English teacher who, through his distinctive teaching methods, exemplifies the transcendentalist idea and breathes life into it. His personification of this philosophy is not only readily welcomed by the boys, but acted upon, consequently impacting his students in a profound manner.
Keating, he taught in a different ways that other teachers thought it wasn't as appropriate. Although he didn't teach like the other teacher in the movie his students slowly understood what poems truly mean. In the Dead Poet Society there was a scene where Neil wanted to pursue his long life dream which was becoming an actor. However both of Neil's parents wanted him to become a doctor instead of him being an actor. His parents didn't let him because they thought that being a doctor would be best for his future. Until the day came where he decided to stand up for himself, what he thought was right for him even if it meant he wouldn't live to achieve it. In the most of the students that were in the club eventually understood what poems are really about in real life
Film Review of Dead Poets Society Dead Poets Society explores the conflict between realism and romanticism as these contrasting ideals are presented to the students at an all boys preparatory school. Welton Academy is founded on tradition and excellence and is bent on providing strict structured lessons prescribed by the realist, anti-youth administration. John Keating is a new English teacher with a passion for poetry. When he returns to his own strict childhood school to teach, his unconventional methods quickly prove to be inspirational to a group of students. He inspires them to pursue their desires and live life to the fullest.
The characters in "The Dead Poet’s Society" were very unique. Mr Keating was a very round character. He has a very unique way of teaching the class about poetry. Mr. Keating had went to the same school he is teaching in now. Knox was flat. He had problems with his dad. Todd was flat. He was on Mr. Keating’s side when the school tried to fire him. Cameron was dynamic. He went with the crowd. If a group of kids did one thing then he would follow right behind.
