I grew up in Honduras, a country full of tradition and mystery. This is especially true in small towns like Yoro where my grandparents were born. I can remember summer time was the best time of the year for me. I was on vacation from school and able to go visit my grandparents. Ever since I can remember, I heard stories of the rain of fish. Some people say that it happens every year between June and July. Others believed it only came when God blesses the town. There are also the ones that just do not believe in the occurrence of the rain of fish. I will have to admit, I was one of the skeptics of this event until the day I saw these fish with my own eyes.
The day started as any usual day in the small town of Yoro. This town was approximately five thousand people. The sun went up from behind the mountain named Yoro as the town. Everyone started the work day early on their corn, bean and banana fields. They needed to try to avoid the hot afternoon sun. The heat of the sun can reach near one hundred degrees. My grandfather was repairing a fence on his banana field that is roughly three miles southwest of the town. I was headstrong because this day I had been selected to be his assistant.
We started our work at seven in the morning. As we were finishing fixing the fence at around two in the afternoon, we saw the sky quickly being covered by a cloud so black that it frightened me. The wind became stronger gradually. We could hear lighting striking not too far from where we were. My grand father said, “Let’s hurry up and go home.” We did. Meanwhile as we were going home it started raining really hard. We did not think too much of it and kept riding our drenched horses. As the rain augmented, the horses started moving in a strange ...

...ying to give it a scientific answer or a more logical reason for the dubious belief the native people narrate. For example, that a small tornado forms on the river due to the heat of the water and the cold of the storm and the wind carries the fish away from the river, or that these fish swim against the current that the strong rain produces and the fish swim onto the land in the overflowing water. There are also the ones that think there are underground tunnels that overflow when a big storm happens letting the fish out.
Whatever the cause of this apparent miracle is, it still motivates arguments and doubt in some people. Others listen or watch in awe. For me, this day made an astounding link among the familiar and strange. I hope to always see it as I did when I was eight years old and to remember it as a startling miracle and a blessing of our Lord God.
One night, one of the parents hear some screaming and sounds, like a howling. The next morning, when they began to search the area, around the house, they saw some footprints in the mud, they were very large and real. Something
This puts the event into perspective. While it is only a small event, it is related to the whole world that shows its importance.

One day, I was on a camping trip with my family. When we got there, I thought everything was going to go well, like I thought. However, after a few hours, around dinnertime, I noticed the sky became cloudy, with barely any visibility. I thought that it would start raining soon, and my prediction was correct. It was pouring heavily, so many people began packing up. Later, thunder and lightning came in, so we were instructed to leave immediately. We packed up and left the campsite. After leaving, I also found out that it was going to rain throughout the entire week, so it was a good idea to leave.
Though scientists cannot agree on whether or not a global flood occurred, the effect of these stories on science has been monumental, as well as the effect of the stories on cultures and religions throughout the world. If this great flood did , in fact, occur, it’s effect on history would have been great because of the huge numbers of people lost to it. Though they may be fables, one must keep asking themselves if they may have been based on fact.
Halfway up it was beginning to look doubtful, the wind was picking up and everyone was getting out rain gear to prepare for the storm. I voiced my doubts to Phil and he said we might as well keep going until the lighting got too close. So we did. The thunder grew in volume and the echoes magnified the noise to a dull roar sometimes. Then suddenly it began to ebb. The wind died down and lightening came less frequently. I exchanged relieved looks with Phil after a bit, but kept the pace up--I didn’t want to take chances. Eventually it hit us, but by then it was nothing more then a heavy rain. We kept moving, if slower, and made it over the ridge with no other problems. That night I enjoyed the meal a little more and slept a little deeper realizing how much is important that easily goes unnoticed until something threatens to take it away.
Scenes like this sprang up nationwide with new sightings everyday. Everyone was talking about it at the pub, church or school and the media fanned the flames even more with daily coverage. Each person you spoke to who believed it was a true miracle, claimed a unique experience of the phenomena. Some said they saw the statue's hand move a bit or that a tear feel from her eye or most commonly the apparition of Christ's face upon the statue of Mary's face. The most skeptical about the whole rumpus was actually the clergy who found themselves dealing with a religious happening that was not within their control with impromptu prayer gatherings springing up everywhere. Their calls for caution in the media were generally disregarded by the members of the public caught up in the excitement. Some of this excitement began to turn a bit sour when rumors began to circulate that these miracles were actually dire omens of a coming apocalypse. It was reported in the papers that some woman claimed to have had a vision that this was the beginning of a series of pre-apocalyptic portents that heralded the end of everything.
The Unicorns reared and shook their heads, the sparkle of moonlight died in their eyes; their majestic horns shrivelled up and fell from their heads, leaving nothing but a smudge on their fur; their manes and tails became limp and dusty, as if invisible hands had brushed the stars from them. When finally they stood, they were Horses, plain White Horses; they nuzzled each other for comfort, feeling the pain of their loss, then they whinnied loud and set out at a gallop across the dying world, a flurry of white drifting down the hillside, like a sudden blizzard, their hearts suddenly filled for the first time with fear and uncertainty for what tomorrow may bring.
“Fallingwater is a great blessing – one of the great blessings to be experienced here on earth. I think nothing yet ever equaled the coordination, sympathetic expression of the great principle of repose where forest and stream and rock and all the elements of structure are combined so quietly that really you listen not to any noise whatsoever although the music of the stream is there. But you listen to Fallingwater the way you listen to the quiet of the country.” – What Frank Lloyd Wright says about his Falling water.1
With music blasting, voices singing and talking, it was another typical ride to school with my sister. Because of our belated departure, I went fast, too fast. We started down the first road to our destination. This road is about three miles long and filled with little hills. As we broke the top of one of the small, blind hills in the middle of the right lane was a dead deer. Without any thought, purely by instinct I pulled the wheel of the car to the left and back over to the right. No big deal but I was going fast. The car swerved back to the left, to the right, to the left. Each time I could feel the car scratching the earth with its side. My body jolted with the sporadic movements of the car. The car swerved to the right for the last time. With my eyes sealed tight, I could feel my body float off the seat of the car.
I looked up at the black sky. I hadn't intended to be out this late. The sun had set, and the empty road ahead had no streetlights. I knew I was in for a dark journey home. I had decided that by traveling through the forest would be the quickest way home. Minutes passed, yet it seemed like hours and days. The farther I traveled into the forest, the darker it seemed to get. I was very had to even take a breath due to the stifling air. The only sound familiar to me was the quickening beat of my own heart, which felt as though it was about to come through my chest. I began to whistled to take my mind off the eerie noises I was hearing. In this kind of darkness I was in, it was hard for me to believe that I could be seeing these long finger shaped shadows that stretched out to me. I had this gut feeling as though something was following me, but I assured myself that I was the only one in the forest. At least I had hoped that I was.
In that split second I saw the world a little differently. I felt as though I had been shot. My mind paused and took a photograph of the view in front of me. I was only able to take one quick vivid photograph in my mind though because it all happened so quickly. The shimmering green grass was blinding my eyes as the strong rays of sunlight beamed down upon the fairway. There was a little gully about fifteen feet from me where there was tall grass that looked like pieces of green and brown string sticking out of the ground. A little patch of grass was missing by the gully to reveal a small sparkling creek that flowed rapidly. There was no wind to blow the strings, so they sat there motionless. I saw the bright green leaves of the trees that were almost completely surrounding me.
It was warm that day, but as the sun began to set it began to cool off. This led to a storm coming right at us. From our perspective, we were able to watch the storm form and start to come over us. It was amazing to have the colors of the sunset mixed with the clouds forming across the sky. Eventually, the storm reached us. We could see the rain starting to come down, soon reaching the edge of the lake. As it worked its way across the water, it looked as if a wall was coming at you finally just soaking you with the full force of the rain storm. There was another storm that occurred on the same trip, but this one came out of no where. We were outside in an open area playing badminton in our swim trunks. Then all of a sudden it started raining, but we continued playing anyway. Soon though, it started to hail, starting with just tiny pebbles eventually getting to be marble sized at its largest. This was by no means a dangerous hail storm, but it made me think about the formation of hail. This hail, started in the clouds as a water drop, then began to circulate through the cloud. Eventually it reached a specific size where the cloud could no longer hold onto it and it fell all the way down to the earth plopping down harmlessly on the ground. It truly is amazing how all these things happen
