Cultural identity refers to the feeling belonging to a certain culture that is attributed to the upbringing of an individual in the given culture. Cultural identity gives a person the sense of belonging and belonging towards their culture. Modern cultural studies show that cultural identification has taken a new face. Various cultural identifiers can be used to identify the culture of an individual. These identifiers include nationality, language, location, gender, religious beliefs, history, and ethnicity. Culture is important in shaping the identity of an individual. The efforts of people trying to preserve their cultural identities can bring about hatred and division in the society. This is likely to happen especially in large cities where people with different cultural identities meet. Coming up with a common cultural identity can be a critical idea. This is because; people will have something in common to share unlike where different people have different cultural identities. Globalization has destroyed cultural identities of certain groups and individuals across the globe. Cultural assumption about various identities brings about the influence on these identities.

Cultural identity was consisted of local, small, and distinct connection between one’s environment and cultural experience. The cultural identity was shared among the given community, inherited and highly valued hence needed preservation and protection. Everyone was ready to defend their identity despite their geographical location. The spread of globalization across the world has led to corrosion of many cultures and adaption of the western cultures. The aspect of firoozeh feeling strange and enslaved by the American name is a good indication that culture shapes a person's identity. Despite having migrated to America and spent much of her adulthood there, Firoozeh still hold on to her culture. On the other hand, the Americans are reluctant to learn new languages and names. In conclusion, majority of the people in the world have taken culture as their lifestyle in which they treasure. The adoration of cultures to some extent has made some people ignorant and unwilling to adapt ne trends because they view it as a threat to their culture (Dumas 67). This brings about few negative aspects in an individual’s identity. Overall, it shows that culture has played the major role in molding people’s identities.
