Novels are valuable because they share important insights like how Curiosity could lead to consequences, how people are not as they seem, and how a big part of trust is gone, when lies are used. The novel The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, by Mark Haddon is a great example. This book shows how curiosity could lead to consequences, how people are not always as they seem to be, and how a big part of trust is gone, when lies are used. The novel is about a boy named Christopher Boone, who has minor disabilities but very intelligent. He goes on a quest to find out who kills one of the dogs in the neighborhood. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time is valuable because it shows important insights.
First of all, novels

can share important insights like how curiosity can lead to consequences. Examples of privacy invading, trouble and, shock proves this. In the first place, curiosity can lead to privacy invading. When Christopher comes back home from his investigation at Mrs. Shears’ house, father asks, “Where have you been?... What the hell were you doing poking around in her garden?”(Haddon 48-49). Father tells Christopher that, “I am going to say this one last and final time… You are not to go asking Mrs. Shears about who killed the dog” (50). This is because if the police found out about Christopher investigating, he would need to go back to the police station again so the police can go for questioning. So to be safe Christopher’s curiosity should stop for the sake of safety. Next, curiosity can lead to trouble. Father loses his mind at Christopher, saying, “What did I say, Christopher?... Not to go around sticking your f***ing nose into other people’s business. Not long after, father was extremely mad and grabs him because Christopher was told many, many time before, not to go investigate about the dog. Last, curiosity can lead to huge shock. Christopher was in big shock and, “Then I stopped reading the letter because I felt sick… I rolled into the bed and curled up in a ball… My stomach hurt” (112-113). He finds out the truth about his mother being alive, from reading letters that were sent by her. Therefore, causing him to feel sick because he did not know what to think or do. This shows how curiosity can be bad because of privacy invading, trouble and, shock.
Next, novels are valuable because they share great insights on how people might not always as they seem to be. Characters like Christopher, Mother and Father show this. In the beginning, people described Christopher as a boy with a disability but, “I’m the first person to do A level from my school because it’s a special school” (56). In this case, this shows that people with disabilities can be smart, and have their own mind but still have the behaviour of one who has disabilities. For example, they might not like colours like brown or yellow, they might have difficulty understanding other people and their emotions, and might relates better with animals. Supposedly, Mother is hot headed, she says, “We often had arguments like that. Because I often thought I couldn’t take anymore”(107). But, later on in the book, we meet her, and she seems to be a very calm and happy person. Finally, Father is suppose, to be a very level headed man; “He didn’t get angry quickly and he didn’t shout as often” (82). And then, the reader finds out that Christopher’s father is the one to kill Wellington, the dog. This gives very 2 different perspectives on him because he can be nice at one moment and lose him bottled up temper in the next. This displays who people are not always what they seem to be because of the characters like Christopher, Mother and, Father.
Lastly, novels are important because they show great insights like how a big pat of trust is gone when lied to.

For instance, lying can lead to discomfort, distance and, fear. For one thing, Christopher felt uncomfortable around his dad because of the lie. Father tells him, “‘We’re only human.’ Then he held up his right hand and spread his fingers out in a fan. But I screamed and pushed him backward…” (122). Usually when Father does this, it is okay but, Christopher was in so much shock, he did not know what to do. He did not want to Father to touch him. Eventually, Christopher decides that, “ I had to get out of the house” (122). He felt the need to escape and break away from Father after what had happened so, he did would distance himself from Father. Additionally, Christopher is in fear towards his father, after being lied to and told the truth, the next morning, “... I heard Father coming down to the garden and I took out my Swiss Army knife out of my pocket … in case he found us” (127). The reason for this is because when Christopher finds out that Father is the one who kills Wellington, he was afraid that he could be the next victim to this murder crime which made him really scared. Trust is important between people. When it is lost, people feel discomfort, the need to distance themselves, and the sense of fear.
Overall, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is important because it gives examples of great insights. The book teaches us how curiosity can lead to privacy invading, trouble and shock. However, the novel also shares with us how the character like Christopher, mother and, father are not all as the seem to be. But, consequently, it also shows us that when people lied, a big part of their trust is gone. It makes them feel discomfort, a need for distance and, fear.
