I live in Jaipur; it is the capital city of Rajasthan state and is renowned historical place located amidst desert and parched land. It was a confluence of many principalities and ruled by famous kings and queens. So many stories were written about the valor and sacrifice of those glorious warrior kings and princes. True to the history, so many forts were built across the place, possessing rich architectural heritage. I was awestruck by the opulence of the forts, some of which are now converted into hotels. What intrigued me was that all those wars and chaos now reduced to bare walls amidst of desert sands, telling the forgotten history through the mute structures. Therefore, I have a deep understanding about my state. What I think, being a Rajasthani has some unique characteristics: its dress culture, architecture and food
The culture of the place is another important aspect that was notable. The dress culture of this region is amazing with men, women, and children wearing vibrant color costumes that are often decorated with glass and other precious stones. An average Rajasthani woman wears pound-weight silver ornaments and happily carries them around with a smile. Men wear head gears sometimes made of 10-yard long cloth. It is amazing to see these headgears are distinguishable precisely among 120 tribes of Rajasthan. Rajasthani clothes are popular all over the country and perhaps the world. The latest fashion in New York, Milan and Paris are glass embedded handbags, tops and showpieces, which are considered to be signature items of Rajasthan. The women in the city dress in bright blues and radiating reds, with bangles up to the elbows, all of which are dyed from organic materials like plants, vegetables and fruits. Ra...

...i households, such influences have been minimal. The cooking style of Rajasthani food is highly effected by the scarcity of water and lack of fresh green vegetables, Daily food comprises unleavened bread, prepared from wheat, barley, millet, milk, curd, buttermilk or ghee in preparations. Similarly lack of green, leafy vegetables there is pronounce use of lentils, pulses and locally grown beans. The mouth-watering cuisine of Rajasthan includes Dal-Bati and Chuma, Lachedar Paratha, Beasn ki missi puri. Non-vegetarian foods are Lal maan (red meat) and Safed mass (white meat), cooked with almonds, cashew nuts and coconuts.
Traditional culture in Rajasthan have undergone many changes, but it is heritage from ancestors, so we need to protect and treasure it and culture fabric is holding all the people together in spite of change brought forth over a period of time.
In “The Meaning of Adornment,” a sub-chapter within “Distinction and Display in the Visiting Scene,” Meneley explains how important adornment (fashion) is for Zabidi women. The women made sure that they publicly dress too impressed because they know that their families and themselves will be judged (Meneley 1996: 109). Zabidi women become the active participators when they dress appropriately to their culture to ensure their families’

Heritage includes a legacy of physical attributes of the past. Heritage may be inherited and maintained in the present for future generations. Some symbols of heritage can be meaningful to some people, while for others they are meaningless. Traditional heritage plays an important part of everyone’s life. Some people follow a traditional heritage so deeply imbedded in their everyday lives that they do not even recognize them as so.

The group of pastoral people of India that particularly interested me the most was the Raika. They are truly an extraordinary group of people; they live in and around Rajasthan, in north western India. This region is a semi-desert, a perfect environment for the main animal they herd, the camel. Their entire culture is centered on the noble desert creature, in their stories on the creation of their people it is said that lord Shiva created them in order to tend and protect the camels of Pavrati (n.d. Protocol). They aren’t a fully nomadic people, there semi-nomadic group (2008, April 27). They naturally consume lots of milk and milk products like cheeses and yogurts, because of their camel herding history. Their diet is centered on camel milk and other herd animals milk essentially. The Raika are neither an ethnic nor a linguistic group themselves, rather they represent an extensive endogamous caste community. Their culture is heavily emphasized on herding camel, but they also heard a variety of other species beside that one. Those species include cattle, goats, and sheep. They for ov...
From a historic point of view, Western travelers had remarked on the slow pace of lifestyle and fashion change in Turkey and Persia. On the other hand, many people were of the opinion that the western culture is getting out of hand in terms of dressing fashion (Cumming 234). In most cases, change of fashion and dressing style took place hand in hand with economic and social changes. In the developing world, changes in fashion began with the coming of the whites in Middle East. Changes began in the 11th century when the Turks came to central Asia and Far East. In Europe, continuous change in clothing fashion is believed to have started in middle 14th century. It started by a sudden introduction of shortening and tightening of male garments, it further brought the introduction of trousers and leggings that were worn by men (Cumming 235). After the advent of change in men fashion, it was followed by changes in female c...
Taj Mahal. ( Mahal is the word in urdu language used for Palace) How can I describe The Taj Mahal? You can’t its impossible. You just have to experience it. To gaze in wonder at that magnificent dome and elegant gardens will be a moment that you remember for the rest of your life. It is one of the greatest sights in the world, some say the greatest, and like Victoria Falls, The Grand Canyon, and Macchu Picchu, it simply is one of those things you have to see in your life. The architectural grace and symmetry of the Taj Mahal just takes your breath away. We had chosen our visit carefully--the sun was setting and the light that washed over the Taj was golden in color. The minarets were now stark against the setting sun . The actual dome was a surprise, it is not yellow-white but blue-white and covered in inscriptions and detail. From below it looked like something out of "Arabian Nights." But inside were the tombs of Mumtaz Mahal and Shah Jahan. The central tomb is a lofty chamber with light streaming through fine latticework, and hanging above was an elaborate lamp. Words cannot describe its beauty when you stand on that marble platform overlooking the Yamuna, with the setting sun turning it into a golden ribbon. You may a...
She says “each state has it’s native clothing, so in Kerala we have this white cotton saree that has a gold border that we wear during our festival of Onam, which has both a religious and cultural connotation. In Rajasthan, they have specific prints on rajasthani sarees, which the women there have to cover their head with when they go
Almost every culture around the world have the idea of bringing together households in marriage. In the United States, this a coupling of two people who will start a life on their own. In India, a marriage is more than two people falling and love and getting married. Family, religion and casts play a role for the future bride and groom. The Indian culture’s weddings have different traditions when it comes to proposals, ring traditions and ceremonies not only for the couple but for the families as well.
