The cruise industry is under a bit of a makeover. Due to economic conditions and shifting demand, the cruise line industry is looking for new ways to attract cruise vacationers while maintaining the market that already exists. There are numerous ways to go about this. Royal Caribbean is being creative in its methods. Generally, Key West is one of the most frequented ports of call. However, as Phillips (2005) states The Sentry is canceling 26 port calls next year, and the Rhapsody of the Seas normally goes every week while next year it will only go every other week. RCL has had the same schedule for a long time and now they want to try other things. This is a sign of things to come. Royal Caribbean can no longer rely on old methodology to be successful. Where are these ships going to go if they are not going to Key West?
According to Stevenson, there is an increasing demand for more “drive-to” locations. This means that people do not really wish to fly to the port where their cruise is leaving from. They’d rather drive to a closer port to go on a cruise. Some of the ports of call that are increasing in demand are New Orleans, New York, San Francisco and more in the Northeast (Stevenson, 2005). Royal Caribbean needs to expand to these markets. As of now, Royal Caribbean does service these markets. However, there seems to be much more demand for these cities. These cruises will offer an abundant amount of fun-activities to do on board. There will be: a splash deck for kids, and bungee trampolines that send guests soaring into the air (Blenkey, 2005).
It is not cheap for a cruise line to expand its fleet. Royal Caribbean has been increasing capacity for quite some time. Because of this expansion, RCL increased revenues by 10.3% (Oza, 2005). RCL has been fairly aggressive in doing so. These ships are very expansive to build. According to www.clearstation.com, RCL has a high LT debt-to-equity ratio (1.31) compared to the industry average (.69). This means that the company relies more on creditors for financing rather than the owners. In order to continue to expand RCL will have to issue more stock or continue to pay extremely high interest expenses. Currently, 49% of the company is owned by one family. These owners have worried about diluting the stock price.

The first option that Greywell has would be to move Coral Divers Resort to New Providence Island in the Bahamas. The island has a large population, and Nassau the capital has the most developed tourist attractions in the Bahamas. One of the strengths of moving to New Providence would be the large tourist population that gathers there. The island also offers underwater movie sets from popular Bond movies which remain popular dive attractions today. There are also natural underwater dive spots which are ideal for tourists looking for reef or drop off dives. The weaknesses of moving to New Providence Island would be the high costs of land and operations. Greywell might not be able to sell his resort for what it is worth, and the high property costs on Providence would be very high. Two thirds of the Bahamas population lives on this island which wouldn’t improve bookings. Moving to Providence Island would just move Coral Resorts and its problems to a new location.
Generations past guide our futures. The sacrifices and triumphs of our elders shape the environment in which we are born into, how we grow, and where we are today. My great-great-grandmother was able to leave Budapest, Hungary and come to America. My great-grandmother was able to obtain an education that would not have been readily available to her in her homeland. This has allowed me to be born into a free world, where education is the norm. Likewise, in the essay "The Dreamer", Junot Diaz describes the childhood dreams of his mother to obtain an education while living in the third world, rural area of the Dominican Republic. Diaz uses the struggles of his mother
Throughout an individual’s life-time, he/she has a vision as o what his/her should be. But when things do not go as planned and the unexpected occurs, does that person face it, or run away? In “An Act of Vengeance” by Isabel Allende, running away is not an option at well. Through the usage of plot, character and irony, Allende illustrates the cost of war.
The reason I picked this book is because I have always been curious about terrorism. Truthfully, I really didn’t expect the book to take the stance it did, which focused mainly on the religious implications of what influences people to commits acts of terror. I liked the fact that the book takes new angles in approaching the search for truth, by focusing on case studies and performing interviews with the people who have committed terrorist acts. This is like getting the insiders view of the inner workings and frame of mind people have before, during, and after they have unswervingly performed the acts of violence.
Cruise lines companies compete with other vacation alternatives, such as land-based resort hotels and sightseeing destinations for consumers’ leisure time. Demand for such activities is influenced by political and general economic conditions. Companies within the vacation market are dependent on consumer discretionary spending. The year 2012 was overall a very difficult for the cruise industry. Carnival International is still recovering from the effects of sinking of Costa Concordia off Italy in January 2012. On other hand, Royal Caribbean’s biggest challenge in 2012 was due to one-time impairment charges of nearly $385 million related to Spanish line Pullma...
Greece-based Celestyal Cruises prides itself on a unique ability to showcase “authenticity” in its home country, and in striving to do that exposes travelers not only to popular, bustling ports of call, but also to charming hilltop villages; sleepy, out of the way tavernas; and locally-run businesses that date back generations. With slightly smaller, cozier ships, Celestyal is able to access ports that larger cruise ships cannot – just one of the features that sets this cruise company apart, allowing it to bring travelers to many unexpected and off the beaten path destinations in the Greek islands.

Pattullo report gives a first-hand account as to who controls each segment of the tourism industry; the tour operations, the large hotel chains, and the airline companies. The Caribbean’s economy depends on an industry that is mostly foreign-owned and controlled and the people who live there do not have an opportunity of owning or investing in it. In Pattullo’s report, it reveals that the large travel industry corporations are the ones who have most of the control. But those corporations are not located there. Her report exposes that the true benefiters of tourism in the Caribbean are foreign-owned investors and corporations.
...oard cruise ships as passengers tend to be particular on how they want their cruise ship experience to go.
A second strategy that has been rejected is one concerned with the consumer awareness of SGC. Currently, SGC is only advertising to travel agencies. Coupled with segmentation, SGC’s current advertising strategy has hurt SGC in the sense that consumer awareness is considerably low. Only a small portion of the population even knows that Sea Goddess exists. SGC is only targeting those who travel frequently. They may want to target the portion of the population that wants to travel, but is unsure of where to go or what to do. In order for SGC to reach the consumer, new efforts must be made in the advertising plan. Mere travel agency recommendations are not going to be enough to keep SGC alive in the marketplace. Other vehicles are going to be necessary to spread SGC’s message about the luxuries and benefits of this extraordinary cruise. At the present time, only a small number of all travel agencies have the sufficient knowledge that it takes to make an informative sell to the consumer. It may be profitable for SGC to employ some hi...

Over the past several years, it has not been uncommon to hear about bullying. Unfortunately, bullying is something that has affected the lives of millions of people around the world. Some of those people have had resolve from the bullying, and many people have not been able to reach that resolve and the effects have been emotionally scarring. According to Dictionary.com, “bullying is a blustering, quarrelsome, overbearing person who habitually badgers and intimidates smaller or weaker people”. Based on the definition alone, there might be a time where any individual could reflect back to when they were in school and they were witness to or victim of a bully. The remainder of this paper will discuss the following:
I was smacked in the face by a gust of hot, humid Texas air as I found my way off the bus. The once brisk morning was getting hotter by the second. My friend Kristi and I looked towards our left and there she was, the Norwegian Sea. The cruise liner that we would be on for the next week. It was the biggest ship I had ever seen up close. Ten stories high and nearly 1000 feet long. It had an intimidating presence that took one's breath away.
