Arthur Miller wrote plays as a way of showing people the real picture of what life was really like during the Great Depression and after World War II. Before the Great Depression many Americans were living in a significant time period, the Roaring Twenties. People had radios, automobiles, and movies with sounds. Then it all suddenly came to an end with the Stock Market Crash, leading to the Great Depression. During the Great Depression, Americans faced poverty, and had no income because jobs weren’t available. Throughout his life Miller influenced many people with his plays, and his contributions to this day because people want to read and understand what was truly happening in past history. For example, “The Crucible” is a play about the Salem Witch Trials, giving a good understanding of the basics that went on in this time period. Another example of Miller’s influential work is “The Death of a Sales Man”, which is his way of showing what life was like when people were struggling financially during the Stock Market Crash. Overall, Arthur Miller is one of the leading American playwrights of the twentieth century. Author Miller was born October 17, 1915 in New York City. He was the second of three children. Miller’s father was once a wealthy man and made his fortunes off of a women’s clothing manufacturing business. After the Stock Market Crash in the nineteen thirty’s, Millers fathers manufacturing business failed and went out of business. They could no longer live their lavish life style. Their lives turned downward in a blink of an eye. They sold everything they had and moved to Brooklyn. As a teenager, Miller would have to deliver bread every morning before school to help out the family. Yet, despite living in poverty, Miller ... ... middle of paper ... ...your beliefs. Stand by them and be confident. Miller used real life experiences and his broad imagination to attract readers to read his works. The beginning of Millers life was a struggle. His family was living the American dream, when suddenly it ended within a blink of an eye. Life was hard, but they knew money doesn’t buy happiness. It would be hard for any family to go from having something to nothing; however Miller didn’t let that get in his way. Miller knew that in life you don’t get things just handed to you. If you want something then you have to work for it. Miller’s life should be an inspiration to all of us. With hard work and determination, anything is possible with life. Miller found something that he loved to do and made a career out of it. That is why Miller is one of the most recognized American authors, and his great works are being recognized.
