What Should Be Done
(A Critical Analysis of Arthur Miller’s, The Crucible) Extremely talented and highly praised rapper, Eminem, sang in a song, “The truth is you don’t know what is going to happen tomorrow. Life is a crazy ride and nothing is guaranteed.” Life is described as being a roller coaster with many ups and downs. No one knows what crazy events will happen from day to day. One play that really takes into account crazy things happening everyday is The Crucible, by Arthur Miller. In this play, a group of girls dancing in the woods turns into a mass number of people hung for the accusations of witchcraft. As this play unfolds, I would have done three things very different if I was John Proctor. In, The Crucible, being John Proctor, I would have told Abigail that I never loved her in the first place. Abigail is insanely in love with Proctor, and all the faul actions she displays are based on the assumption that John Proctor loves her, or loved her, back. Abigail told John, “You loved me... and whatever sin it is, you love me yet!” (1140). At this point, I as John, would have told Abigail that I did not love her and that what we had was nothing more than silly fun. The relationship between a husband and wife is very important, and although John did sleep with Abigail illegally, John still could have defended his wife. Abigail screamed, “She is a cold, sniveling woman, and you bend to her!” (1140). Abigail completely talked crap on John’s wife right in front of him, and he didn’t do anything. Not only is that shady, but it is also not something a husband should ever let someone say about his wife.
