The Crucible, a movie from 1996 is an adaptation from Arthur Miller’s play regarding the Salem witch trials in the 1600’s.
At the final moments of the movie, one of the most crucial scene comes to be: John Proctor, the movie’s protagonist is about to sign his witchcraft confession. He has his wife by his side, after being separated in jail for many years. He also has his friends, people that have known him for his entire life. But one antagonist is there, Judge Thomas Danforth a Puritan conservative who’s acting as the religious persecutor. His goal: to get John Proctor to sign a witchcraft confession and, therefore, discredit other people that were accused and claimed innocence.
The problem here is that John Proctor is innocent, and was
the last from his friends to be thrown in a dark hole because of a lie. It is known that these events happened in real life, and in this extracted scene they were able to demonstrate different human emotions. The humiliation of John Proctor, who’s only reason to submit to a false accusation is to protect his family, the desperation of his pregnant wife who will hang after she gives birth, the disbelief of Proctor’s friend Reverend John Hale, and the indifferent Judge Thomas Danforth. The movie makers were able to capture the events from the movie and play, with realistic scenarios, costumes, and brilliant acting to lead the turbulent dialogue. It brings to the viewers mixed feelings of disturbance, sadness, indignation or even rage. One of the main reasons for that is the fact that is based in real life events. Another one is the difficulty in understanding how the previous generations of people could have the capability of committing such barbarous actions, many times with no real proof, they were led by rumors and fear. John Proctor’s decision to tear apart the false document, and to claim with such desperate ardor how that very paper would ruin his life, and how much his name meant to a mean like him, can bring viewer’s to tears. Not only by his unfair fate but gives some sort of hope in the mankind. In the face of his death by a false accusation, a simple man resisted and kept his conscience clean. It is an example to be proud of, not submitting to a false and bigot justice system. This sad event makes people not only to think about the reasons why those events occurred but to reflect on current events of similar repercussion. Barbarous actions still occur in many different situations, sometimes as a social crime, or being based on religion. Many things improved since the 1600’s events, but there is still much progress to do towards people’s rights.
Arthur Miller's play, The Crucible, and the movie with the same name have many differences and similarities, all of which contribute to the individual effectiveness of each in conveying their central message.
...fess to them Elizabeth” (238). He’s thinking about giving in to the corrupt church to save his own life like everyone else. But when the Judge Danforth asks him to sign his name on a document confessing of witch craft he won’t do it because he explains, “It is my name I cannot have another in my life because I lie and sign myself to lies. Proctor finally stands up for what’s right and he shows that he won’t taint his name in order to save his own life. So they send him to be hung but he dies with his honor and his integrity.

In Arthur Miller’s play The Crucible and Gillian Flynn's novel Gone Girl, both of the husbands characters realize having trust in their marriages is very important. In The Crucible, John Proctor cheated on his wife Elizabeth with a younger girl named Abigail, and his wife soon found out. In Gone Girl, Amy Dunne, who is the wife of Nick, planted out a murder scene in their house and made it look like Nick had killed her. John Proctor and Nick Dunne both realize, neither of their relationships have a lot of trust in them at all. In these stories, you learn not everyone can be trusted, and some people are not really who they resemble.
Through time it can be seen that the world’s history has a nature of repeating its self. Author Miller, was aware of this as he experienced a repitition of history of society’s flawed government. In the text The Crucible, the writer, Author Miller has identified and illustrated the problems society faced during the 1950’s setting by drawing parallels with the setting of the 1962 Salem witch hunt. This setting helps readers to understand the characters of John Proctor and Giles Corey.

The Crucible is a novel based on the Salem Witch Trials in Massachusetts, written by Arthur Miller. The Crucible demonstrates forbidden temptation between John Proctor and Abigail Williams, honor and dishonor in the town of Salem, ruthless revenge, and the strive for high social status. The narrative style of this play is standard 1950s everyday language. The Crucible is set in a theocratic society of Puritanism in 1692.
The play The Crucible by Arthur Miller focuses on the frenzy that occurred in the Massachusetts town of Salem in the year 1692. It shows the interactions between the characters and how their varying personalities affected the dynamics of the trials. One of these characters is Giles Corey, an eighty-three year old farmer who is the scapegoat for many of the bad occurrences in the town. The primary reason for this is that he is uneducated and had a fiery personality which led to many confrontations with others. Although Giles Corey’s personality antagonized him with the townsfolk, this same stubbornness is what makes Giles one of the heroes of The Crucible.
"'A person is either with this court or he must be counted against it, there be no road between.'" Act 3, Scene 1 pg. 87 . The characters in the play are either portrayed as good or evil with no in between , which makes life even harder for them . Salem mislabeled people in town as good or evil , but they had very little or no evidence at all to support it . Salem labels Rebecca nurse as a witch and evil , when really she was innocent and took care of everyone's babies. Abigail was an evil character who was a liar, vindictive and careless , the people of Salem viewed her as good character .
The Crucible is a 1953 play by Arthur Miller. Initially, it was known as The Chronicles of Sarah Good. The Crucible was set in the Puritan town of Salem, Massachusetts. It talks of McCarthyism that happened in the late 1600’s whereby the general public and people like Arthur Miller were tried and persecuted. The Crucible exemplifies persecutions during the Salem Witch Trials. The people were convicted and hung without any tangible proof of committing any crime. Persecutions were the order of the day. When a finger was pointed at any individual as a witch, the Deputy Governor Danforth never looked for evidence against them or evidence that incriminated them; he ordered them to be hanged. This can be seen through his words “Hang them high over the town! Who weeps for those, weeps for corruption!” (1273), the people were persecuted aimlessly. The four main characters in the play, John Proctor, Abigail Adams, Reverend Hale and Reverend Parris, are caught in the middle of the witchcraft panic in the religious Salem, Massachusetts in late 1690’s. Persecution is the most important theme in the Crucible, the leaders and citizens of Salem attacks and persecutes one of their own without any tangible evidence against them.

fact that the story isn’t made up and it is based on a true story
The Crucible is a famous play written by Arthur Miller in the Early 1950’s. It was written during the “Red scare, when McCarthyism was established. Many anti-communists wanted to prevent communism from spreading just like in The Crucible many wanted to get rid of witchcraft. Many would accuse others of witchcraft in order to not be accused just like many would accuse people of communism. In The Crucible witchcraft would be punishable by death. Many were scared to be accused; therefore many would admit practicing witchcraft in order to save their lives. The Crucible is considered a good play because it is based on real life events during the Salem witch Trials and shows how fear played a role in the individual’s life just like during the “Red” scare.
