Dim light comes up on a the jail cell. Three women are sitting around the cell. Martha Corey is sitting in the floor leaning against the wall looking down trodden. Rebecca nurse is sitting on the bed resting her back against the wall looking peaceful. While Elizabeth Proctor is standing leaning against the wall looking out the window with almost no expression on her face. All three of the women are deep in thought. A wail of pain and loneliness from one of the other cells jolts them back to reality. Slumping back against the wall Martha begins to sigh. Martha: It's absurd that any of us are in this cell right now. Rebecca, how could you be a witch? You are the most wholesome person in all of Salem.
